Temple City man was charged with killing his 83-year-old father, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced. Deputy District Attorney Melanie Buccat said John Daniel McHugh (dob 5/6/67) faces one felony count each of murder and purchasing or receiving a firearm with a temporary restrain-
ing order, protective order or injunction. Case GA107756 includes allegations of using a handgun in the killing. Arraignment was scheduled and continued to May 27 in Department 5 of the Los Angeles County Superior Court, Alhambra Branch. On April 24, the defendant allegedly shot Michael P. McHugh during an argument in the
house they shared, the prosecutor said. If convicted as charged, John McHugh faces a possible maximum sentence of 50 years to life in state prison. Bail is set at more than $2 million. The case remains under investigation by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, Temple Station.
