San Bernardino Sheriff’s Rescue Injured Hiker San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Aviation responded to a report of an injured hiker at the Joshua Tree National Monument. The hiker, later identified as Peter Muffoletto, was rock climbing when he fell approximately 50 feet and sustained serious nonlife-threatening injuries.

Due to his injuries, he was unable to hike out from the location. Joshua Tree park rangers and fire department personnel hiked up to Muffoletto and requested air support from Sheriff’s helicopter Air Rescue 306 for a hoist rescue. Ground personnel were unable to safely carry Muffoletto out of the area due to the steep mountainous terrain.

A Sheriff’s patrol helicopter arrived on scene and located Muffoletto out with fire personnel. The patrol crew conducted a scene size up and directed Air Rescue 306 to the location. Once on scene, the crew of Air Rescue 306, which is staffed with Sheriff and Fire personnel, experienced extremely high winds while they lowered the rescue medic 100 feet down to the victim. The crew conducted the hoist while utilizing night vision goggles. Muffoletto was secured into a rescue basket and was hoisted up into the helicopter, followed by the medic. Muffoletto was flown to a local trauma center for further medical treatment.

Immigration Lawyer in Orange County Agrees to Plead Guilty to Visa Fraud

A Laguna Beach attorney has admitted in court documents that she submitted dozens of fraudulent visa petitions to federal immigration authorities and failed to report the money generated

by her fraud to the Internal Revenue Service.

In a plea agreement filed on Wednesday, Mihae Park, 53, agreed to plead guilty to two felony offenses – one count of visa fraud and one

count of filing a false tax return. Park is scheduled to make her initial appearance in United States District Court on January 14.

Homicide Detectives are announcing the arrest of Abraham Julianny Cabrera and Wayne Andrew Seare Jr., for the murder of 22 year-old Rene Lupian.

The arrests stem from leads and information received during the course of a highly publicized press conference held just over a month from the day of Rene’s killing.

Abraham Julianny Cabrera, a 19 year-old male Hispanic and resident of Alhambra, was arrested and booked on Friday, December 21, 2018 at East Los Angeles Sheriff’s Station for Murder and Robbery. He remains held without bail.

The second suspect, Wayne Andrew Seare Jr., a 20 year-old male Hispanic and resident of Montebello, has been identified by detectives

as the individual who was sought as one of two Persons of Interest in Rene’s murder investigation. Suspect Seare was depicted in a drawing during the press conference and has since been arrested.

He was transported and booked on Friday, December 21, 2018 at East Los Angeles Sheriff’s Station for Robbery and Accessory after the Fact.

He is being held in lieu of 2.1 Million Dollars Bail.

A female adult, who was captured in video surveillance and sought as a second Person of Interest, was depicted in a drawing at the press conference. She was later located by detectives and has been identified. Her role in the murder, if any, remains under investigation.

Citrus College Hosts the Royal Swedish Navy Cadet Band The Royal Swedish Navy Cadet Band, a symphonic wind band and one of three full-time bands of the Swedish Armed Forces, arrived at Citrus College on Christmas Day to prepare for its performance at the 130th Rose Parade on Jan. 1, 2019.

Founded in 2002, the band is comprised of approximately 70 musicians, who traveled more than 5,600 miles from the band’s base in Karlskrona, Sweden, to Southern California for the New Year’s Day performance.

“Citrus College is proud to host the Royal Swedish Navy Cadet Band as they prepare to play in Pasadena before a worldwide audience,” said Dr. Geraldine M. Perri, superintendent/president of Citrus College. “The band’s choice to rehearse at our campus is a testament to our state-of-the-

art facilities. I hope thiscollaboration inspires our students to recognize the opportunities that are possible while pursuing thearts in higher education.”

The Royal Swedish Navy Cadet Band performs as chamber ensembles or as a full brass band, and plays at state ceremonies, celebrations and recruiting events. Last year, the band played alongside the U.S. Marine Corps Forces, Pacific Band at a large military music festival in China.

As part of their preparation for the Rose Parade, the band will be joined by the Blue Note Orchestra, a big band and jazz ensemble made up of Citrus College student musicians, for several joint rehearsals.

“We are thrilled about this opportunity to host the Royal

Swedish Navy Cadet Band,” said Susan M. Keith, president of the Citrus Community College District Board of Trustees. “This talented and respected band’s visit to our country is reflective of the long and friendly relationship between the United States and Sweden. Citrus College is honored to play a small part in this continuing relationship by hosting the band.”

The Royal Swedish Navy Cadet Band was the first band from Sweden to participate in the Rose Parade six years ago. Citrus College had the honor of hosting the group at that time as well. In 2012, the band participated in a musical workshop, which was directed

by Bill Hoehne, director of instrumental music, and Bob Slack, the now-retired dean of visual and performing arts.

Among other things in the fraudulent petitions filed between 2000 and 2017, Park listed an alias – Michelle Park – as the petitioner’s employer contact, stated petitioners had employees who were actually deceased or retired people, used bogus Social Security numbers for employees of petitioners, and submitted fake tax returns for work visa petitioners.

In 2013, Park submitted two fraudulent petitions on behalf of an Orange County educational company for two people she claimed would work there as a Chinese language teacher and as a music instructor, according to court documents. In reality, the company did

not know or hire the two work visa beneficiaries, and the company did not offer classes in Chinese language or music, according to Park’s plea agreement.

Park also admitted filing false tax returns for the years 2009 through 2014 by failing to report receipts totaling $763,418 for this time period.

As a result of her underreporting of her business income, Park had a deficiency in her federal income tax returns totaling $266,988 over this six-year period.

The government has seized $292,482 that Park received for the filing of fraudulent visa petitions, and also seized a 2012 Ferrari California and a 2015 Volkswagen GTI that Park

purchased with the visa fraud proceeds, court papers state.

Once she pleads guilty to the two offenses, Park will face a statutory maximum sentence of 10 years in federal prison on the visa fraud charge and up to three years’ imprisonment on the tax charge.

This case was investigated by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, and the IRS Criminal Investigation.

This case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Lawrence Kole of the Santa Ana Branch Office.

Rene, whose family, friends and co-workers described as beloved and

amazing, had just finished his shift at a popular fast food restaurant when he walked into a liquor store in the city of East Los Angeles at approximately 10:30 p.m. on Wednesday, November 7, 2018. Shortly

after making a purchase and leaving the store, Rene was shot and killed at 941 South Concourse Avenue by what was described as a “robbery that went bad.”

“It appears that Rene gave-up a backpack he

was carrying but resisted giving a gold chain and cross that was given to him by his grandmother as a keepsake,” said Homicide Bureau Captain Christopher Bergner.
