T
here are rumors flying around the city suggesting that there may be as many as 52, or more, contenders for the position of Pasadena’s Chief of Police. However, few of us actually know the exact number vying for the coveted and extremely demanding position of heading the Police department. We have only been able to confirm two local applicants vying for the highly sought after position. We profiled Phlunte’ Riddle, a retired lieutenant from the Pasadena Police Department, last week. This week, we turn our attention to the Interim Chief of Police John E. Perez who was one of the first to publically throw his hat into the ring of qualified candidates. The process takes a considerable amount of time and the recruiting firm interviews will start soon with the final short list to be handed to Pasadena’s City Manager Steve Mermell. Pasadena voters have cast their ballots and voted in favor of Measure I and Measure J. Measure I will increase the sales tax in Pasadena by 0.75 percent, bringing the rate to 10.25 percent. Measure J
asks the city to allocate the sales tax revenue garnered by Measure I, projected to be $21 million, in the following manner: - Two-thirds of the revenue will go to the city’s general fund. SEE MEASURES PAGE 10

Assemblymember Chris Holden was reelected to represent the 41st District in the California State Assembly with 63.5 percent of the vote. Holden released the following statement: "I want to thank the voters
