The Tsar of Doo Dah - Snotty Scotty Passes Away A Facebook post on Snotty Scotty and the Hankies’ page simply says: The Hankies regret to announce the passing of our beloved leader and brother John Snotty Scotty Finnell, band leader, Doo Dah originator, honorary mayor of Old Town. Snotty Scotty touched many lives in many ways. We welcome any stories, pictures, lies, tall tales of this legendary, larger than life performer. Signed, the Hankies” John Snotty Scotty Finnell was a true showman whose band became synonymous with the Doo Dah Parade and the Queen tryouts which happen to be this Saturday. John Scott Finnell , 65, [aka Snotty Scotty ] passed away Sunday after a brave battle with cancer. Also known as ‘Goatlips’ according the Sierra Madre Sue, Scotty rocked Pasadena area with his Hankies for over 30 years. As an aside, Vin Scully said ‘GOAT’ means Greatest Of All Time, according to Sierra Madre Sue (Behrens).I never even thought about a world without Snotty Scotty; the Hankies. It's kind of surreal actually,” Sue Behrens said.
“Scott was the life of the party (of Doo Dah). He is sort of an inventor of Doo Dah in the sense of the spirit and longevity of it. He was probably playing in the background at Chromos Bar when the whole idea was concocted. He was in every single parade, leading it, singing it. I just was thinking about what I need to bring to queen tryouts… how will we decorate Scotty’s microphone this year? He loved oxymorons. My heart sunk again when I remembered he wouldn’t be there this time around. Or, ever again. It’s a huge loss for all of us," Patricia Hurley, Managing Director of Light Bringer… Tom Coston, President of Light Bringer Project had this to say about Snotty Scotty: “Snotty Scotty chose his own path in life and certainly marched to the beat of a different drummer… What could more be more aligned with Doo Dah where he was our heart and soul? He led the Hankies in each and every Doo Dah Parade. Snotty Scotty made us feel like we lived in a real town and not just another city. He SEE PAGE 4

LASD Santa Clarita Valley Station Arrest 2 Men Behind Alleged Clown Incident On Sunday, October 16, 2016, at 6:34 a.m., a man called the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station and reported that he was approached by a male wearing a clown mask, holding a knife in the 25500 block of Via Desca in Newhall. Fearing for his safety, the 26-year-old informant said he fired a warning shot with his handgun and warned the suspect not to come any closer. After he fired the shot, he said that the man ran away. Further investigation revealed that the caller, who reported the clown
incident, was possibly under the influence of illegal substances and may have misconstrued the story. He stated to responding deputies that he fired one round into the air to scare away the “clown.” A search of the man’s house revealed multiple weapons, along with illegal narcotics. A short time later, within the same vicinity, deputies detained a 44-year-old man. Within his possession, he had a clown mask, 6- inch kitchen knife, and burglary tools. Both of the men were taken into custody at Santa
Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station. It is unknown at this time if the two incidents are related. The investigation is ongoing and there is no additional information. Santa Clarita Valley Station is urging the public to call if they note any suspicious activity. If you are approached by a ‘clown’ who is acting in a threatening manner, you are advised to avoid confrontation and call the station immediately at (661) 255-1121.
