Temple Station Holds Fundraiser Wednesday for LASD Sergeant Steven C. Owen $26,000 Raised for the Family of Slain Deputy BY TERRY MILLER
Hundreds of Law Enforcement officers from all over California including the Highway Patrol gathered at Temple Station to help raise funds for the family of slain Deputy Steven Owen on Wednesday. Deputy Chefs created classic hamburgers, hot dogs with all the trimmings for hungry officers and deputies. All the proceeds from the event will go directly to the family. The Los Angeles County Sheriff ’s Department and Owen family will
held a memorial service to celebrate the life, memory, and service of Sergeant Steve Owen. We tragically lost Steve on Wednesday, October 5, 2016, while he was performing his duties in the city of Lancaster, California, protecting the residents of Los Angeles County. Owen’s funeral service on Thursday was one of the largest ever-held for a LASD deputy. Thousands of officers, Firefighters, deputies from agencies all over the country attended to pay tribute to a fallen hero.

Not many things in life are certain, but odds are you will unfortunately face at least one health event that requires hospitalization and, following that, rehabilitation. While hospitals provide an array of helpful rehab services, most people prefer to get well in the comfort of their own homes. Although beneficial in the recovery process, home care can also have its own distinct obstacles. Couple that with a patient’s fears and struggles

SBCUSD Schools Participating in Great California Shakeout
All San Bernardino City Unified School District (SBCUSD) schools and offices will participate in the Great California ShakeOut on Thursday, Oct. 20. Beginning at 10:20 a.m., all SBCUSD students and staff will drop, cover, and hold on. Sites will also practice emergency response procedures, such as evacuations and reporting and coordinating with the SBCUSD Emergency Operations Center. Visitors to SBCUSD schools and offices are required to evacuate with students and staff. As in a real
emergency, SBCUSD sites may be unable to answer phone calls and emails during the drill and evacuation. “Disasters can strike at any time. We know that. We’ve lived that recently with the Blue Cut fire,” Eric Vetere, SBCUSD emergency manager, said. “That’s why it’s important to always be prepared. And, the annual Great California Shakeout is the perfect time for our entire community to practice for a disaster.” The Great California ShakeOut is a statewide earthquake and disaster
preparedness drill. Everyone in California, including private businesses and individuals, are encouraged to participate to better prepare for an earthquake or other natural disasters. Earthquake- and disaster-preparedness materials are available at www. shakeout.org <http:// www.shakeout.org>.
