Starting May 1, the officers and dispatchers from the Sierra Madre Police Department (SMPD) were sporting a new look with redesigned badges and patches. “This will be the new fresh look as we continue to rebuild the police department and add new officers and dispatchers to the SMPD family, Chief Larry Giannone said in a Facebook post. “We want to thank the community for your support while we transitioned from some tough times to a newer, brighter department. Very soon you will see some new faces out in the community. Recruitment is going well and we are focused with embedding the officers, both new and old back into the community so we may continue to provide the high level service that not only keeps our small town safe, but allows the citizens SEE PAGE 17

Sierra Madre City Council Selects a Mayor and Mayor Pro-Tem, Swears in New City Clerk and City Treasurer On Tuesday, April 26, at the reorganization meeting, Gene Goss was selected as the new mayor by fellow councilmembers. San Gabriel to Host Fire Service Day

Along with state mandadtes and fire departments all over California, the San Gabriel Fire Department will open its doors to the community on Saturday, May 14, for its annual Fire Service Day. The event will be an opportunity for community members to learn more about what city firefighters do to keep the community safe. There will be opportunities for residents to meet and greet with firefighters, as well as learn about firefighting equipment through live demonstrations, tour the fire station, get a picture with the fire engines, learn about emergency and disaster preparedness, and participate in other fun activities. There will also be free hot dogs and water. Fire Service Day will be from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, May 14, at fire department headquarters, 1303 S. Del Mar Ave. By the way, this is also an excellent time to thank the firefighters for their service and trry out their incredible cooking skills, world class would be an understatement.
