City Manager Michael Beck to Leave Pasadena BY TERRY MILLER

Michael Beck will be taking on a new role at UCLA next year. Beck played a key role in the Rose Bowl’s massive $180 Million renovation project which is, of course, home to UCLA. - Photo by Terry Miller

City Manager Michael Beck will leave Pasadena February to take an administrative position at UCLA. Beck first joined the City in 2008. His last day will be Feb. 14, 2016. In March, Beck will become UCLA’s Administrative Vice Chancellor. However, during Michael Beck’s tenure, recently fraught with scandal, calls for his resignation and a significantly critical independent report, albeit heavily redacted, on the police shooting of Kendrec McDade make one suppose that these may have been contributing factors in his decision to take the position at UCLA. During the month of January 2015, public displeasure with Michael Beck was at a high point. The postembezzlement publicity was enormous and the pressure was on. “What I’m seeing is the same actors, recycling themselves throughout the different communities, going from community to community to community, spreading this very negative culture which is not servicing the public,” activist Jason Hunter said. “And Mr. Beck is one of those.” Some local observers note that then Council Member Terry Tornek’s persistent questions on an unrelated issue led to the discovery of the missing money ($6.4 million). Tornek, who has since become mayor himself, called the time frame for the missing money “astounding.” “There’s no question that this was an absolute failSEE PG. 3

On Immigration Anniversary, CIPC Celebrates Strength of Immigrant Communities In response to the oneyear anniversary of President Obama's immigration announcement and the Department of Justice's appeal filed on Friday in US v. Texas, the California Immigrant Policy Center issued the following statement.

"One year ago today, immigrant communities across California and the nation eagerly gathered to hear President Obama's long-awaited speech. Following years of grassroots organizing lead by immigrants themselves, the

President's creation of new deportation relief programs brought hope to millions. But the news was not all good that night. Not only would many community members be excluded from relief, but that night, the Obama administration also

announced a new deportation program. One year later, the new relief programs - DAPA and an expansion of DACA - are stalled due to a nakedly political lawsuit from anti-immigrant states. But deportations continue. It's clearer

than ever that the administration is repeating the mistakes of the past. Immigrant community members are still targeted, criminalized, often detained for long periods without even being able to see a judge, and deported. We're glad the administration has appealed the unfair court ruling blocking deportation relief. But that's not enough. The administration must take further action now to end the pain of detention and deportation. Moreover, as we mark this anniversary, we also express our deep sadness at the extreme, hateful discourse against immigrants, refugees, and other

marginalized communities which has emerged in recent months. Just this week, we've heard shameful calls evoking the Japanese internment and even the heinous suggestion of a national database to track all Muslim Americans. Amidst this hate, we take comfort in California's strong track record of inclusion. We stand with immigrant and refugee communities and celebrate the resilience, courage, and determination of all people who have risked so much to build a better life for their families and communities and to defend the most basic human rights and freedoms that all people should enjoy."

Rep. Chu Votes Against Anti-Refugee Bill

Rep. Judy Chu.

The House of Representatives voted 289-137 for H.R. 4038, the so-called “American SAFE Act of 2015.” This bill adds new certification requirements and requires that the FBI Director, the Homeland Security Secretary, and the National Intelligence Director concur on each refugee from Iraq and Syria. Organizations like the ACLU, the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA), Oxfam, the AFL-CIO, National Council of Asian Pacific Americans and dozens of religious groups argue that these new requirements are unnecessary and would effectively stop the flow of any and all refugees from Iraq and Syria. Rep. Judy Chu (CA-27) voted against the bill and released the following statement: “The terrorist attacks in Paris were horrifying. Our thoughts are with the victims and all of France as we are reminded of our own need to ensure the safety of our cities and people. But this bill is not the solution. We must stop using fear tac-

tics as a means to enact bad policy. “The reality is that we already have in place one of the strictest refugee policies in the world. It takes up to two years of multiple in-person interviews, background checks, and interagency cooperation before a refugee is allowed into the U.S. This process, thanks to the hard work of our intelligence and security communities, is and has been successful at weeding out threats. And that is why the vast majority of refugees admitted are widows, orphans, and victims of torture. “It would be wrong from a moral and a security standpoint to abandon them in refugee camps where they are subject to violence or radicalization. I agree that we need a serious plan to confront the threat of ISIS, but that should not begin with attacks on frightened and vulnerable women and children. Closing our borders to refugees is a mistake and a violation of our country’s values.”

One of the main benefactors of the Rose Bowl is, ironically, UCLA. Here’s a copy of Michael Beck’s resignation letter

fective February 14, 2016, to embark on the next chapter of my professional journey. Beginning on March 1, 2016, I will assume the role of Administrative Vice Chancellor at UCLA. “When I was first approached about the opportunity at UCLA my inclination was to graciously decline to pursue it, as I believe we have more work to do in Pasadena and I love my job as your City Manager. However, as I engaged in further discussions with my family and with UCLA, I came to the conclusion that this is an exciting professional opportunity for me, and although there is never a good time to leave, I am confident that the City of Pasadena is on the right track and well positioned for further success. “I am working closely with Mayor Tornek, members of City Council, and the Executive Leadership Team to ensure a smooth transition. Announcements concerning next steps for the City will be forthcoming from the Mayor. “The opportunity to serve Pasadena and to work with all of you has been the highlight of my professional career. We still have more to accomplish in the coming months and you have my unwavering commitment to continue to lead our organization until I transition in February. “Sincerely, Michael J. Beck -City Manager.” “UCLA is a vibrant campus where amazing innovation happens every day,” Beck said. “While I will miss the people of Pasadena, this is an extraordinary opportunity to join one of the world’s best universities and to help support its mission of teaching, research and service.” Prior to working in Pasadena, Beck served as Riverside’s assistant city manager (from 2004 to 2008) and deputy city manager (2001–04). He also worked in various capacities at UC Riverside, including as the director of economic development and real estate services, and as director of new initiatives and special programs. Beck, 50, earned a bachelor’s degree in business economics and an MBA from UC Riverside. He is president of the California chapter of the International City/County Management Association and serves on committees for the League of California Cities. Beck succeeds Jack Powazek, who retired in July after more than 40 years of service to UCLA in various

capacities, including as administrative vice chancellor since 2011. We have contacted many in the city, including councilmembers and CEOs, for comment if the recent embezzlement scandal and OIR Report release may have played a role in Mr. Beck’s decision. Thus far, we have received only one reply - from Paul Little, CEO of the Pasa-

dena Chamber of Commerce: “Both the embezzlement and the criticism of the McDade investigation are troubling events in the recent history of Pasadena, but I don’t know that either had an impact on the city manager’s decision to take the position at UCLA. “Michael Beck has been dedicated to the success of Pasadena during his tenure here. I have enjoyed working with him. I find him to be

a friendly, open, honest man who really believes public service is exactly that, doing his best to see the people and City of Pasadena are well served.” Michel Beck receives $323,284.70 annually with pay and benefits. With accumulated CalPers benefits, Mr. Beck will be receiving a considerable sum in retirement benefits from his time at Riverside and Pasadena.

Mayflower 4th Grader Sells Cookie Dough to Support His School and Multiple Sclerosis By Janie Duncan Mayflower Elementary School PTA in Monrovia recently held their annual fall fundraiser benefiting programs at the school, including installation of the new playground equipment, they received from a grant competition. Mayflower 4th grader Dominic Rizzi worked hard selling cookie dough to help his school. His neighbor Sue Boos wanted to help Dominic, Mayflower as well as others in the local community. A friend told her to talk to Janie Duncan who started the ‘MS Cookie Exchange’ and co-founded Foothills Kitchen. So Sue purchased 28 tubs of cookie dough from Dominic. What will happen to all this dough? Half will be given to the 17th Annual Cookie Exchange for the local Multiple Sclerosis Group of the San Gabriel Valley hosted by Aynn and Tom Freeman of Monrovia. This event will be held on December 12th at 2 p.m. at the United Methodist Church of Monrovia, 140 E. Palm Ave.

The event is free and open to the public. But this is only half the story... The rest of the cookie dough will be donated to Foothills Kitchen, a Monrovia nonprofit group which

hosts a free meal for those in need each Saturday at 1 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall of the United Methodist Church of Monrovia at 140 E. Palm Ave. The last Saturday of each month is HOPE Kitchen from the Methodist Church who serves at 2 p.m. The

first Saturday is Covenant Kitchen hosted by Covenant of Grace Church. Many other Churches and volunteers help provide and serve the meals. The Kitchens get no corporate funding and run on donations from the private sector. Foothills Kitchen is more than just food. The guests eat at a linen-covered table with flowers and are served a full hot meal. Volunteers help with jobs, housing, clothing and other needed items. There are homeless, seniors, veterans, and families with children in attendance. Please check out Foothills Kitchen on Face Book for more information on where to volunteer or donate. The best news is that the guests will be getting hot baked cookies this holiday season thanks the efforts of a young student and the warm heart of his neighbor. For more information on either group or if you want to bake cookies please contact Janie Duncan (626) 358-8157 or email her at janieduncan@altrionet. com.

Downey Police Officer Killed A Downey police officer was fatally shot while sitting in his personal vehicle in the police station’s parking lot last Wednesday evening, and investigators detained several people and continued searching for others in connection to the deadly incident as of Thursday morning, according to LASD. Ricardo Galvez, was parked in an unmarked vehicle in the police station’s lot, located in the 10900 block of Brookshire Avenue, when two people ran up and opened fire around 11 p.m. Wednesday, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. Galvez was nearing the end of his shift when the “brazen” shooting occurred, Lt. John Carina said. “It appears like he was targeted, it doesn’t look random,” he added. Detectives have learned, 29-year-old, Officer Ricardo Galvez, was sitting in his personal vehicle in the Downey Police Department parking lot, when a vehicle drove into the parking lot and unknown suspects exited the vehicle, ran up to Galvez’s car, and fired shots into his vehicle fatally striking him.

The suspects fled from the location in their car and were immediately pursued by a Downey police officer who heard the gunshots and observed the fleeing suspect’s vehicle. The suspects were pursued into the Montebello area, where they got out of their car and fled into the residential area of Carob Way and Washington Boulevard in the city of Montebello. One suspect was located and taken into custody: The driver, a male Hispanic 21-year-old, was caught by officers trying to run through some residential backyards. The other two suspects were seen fleeing into a nearby home. Members of the Sheriff’s Department’s Special Weapons Team ultimately made entry into the home and detained the suspects, a male Hispanic, 16, and a male Hispanic, 18. During their investigation, investigators located a handgun which had been discarded by the suspects. It is believed this handgun is the one that was used to shoot and kill Officer Galvez. Additional investigation revealed that the murder of Officer Galvez appears to be a botched

robbery attempt. All three suspects were booked for murder and are currently being held with no bail. Due to this being an ongoing active investigation, the names of the suspect are not currently being released. The victim, Officer Ricardo Galvez was pronounced dead at the scene. He was a five year veteran of the Downey Police Department.

ARCADIA RESIDENT WANTS SENSIBLE DEVELOPMENT, NOT MANSIONIZATION

Dear Editor, I’ve read your article “Real estate pros weigh in on Arcadia home size debate” in your November 12-18 edition. I find it interesting that Mr. Sira and Mr. Rosa, both realtors who are enjoying huge commissions from the sale of these mansions, are predicting dire consequences resulting from the passage of Saving Arcadia’s voter initiative limiting the size of homes based on the size of the lot. Of course they would. They and their developer/ contractor buddies like the money that’s pouring in, regardless of what this unfettered development does to the city and to its residents. Mr. Rosa’s argument is full of holes. Specifically, he describes two scenarios one based on current codes and one based on the initiative’s proposed codes. In the former, he uses a land value of $95/sq. ft. How did he come up with that figure?

Not all lots are the same. The neighborhood, the views, the trees, proximity to stores and schools, etc. all influence the value of the land. I do not agree with his other cost estimates. When he uses these to calculate the initiative’s numbers, he has to reduce the land value to $50/sq. ft. to make his point. Again, totally misleading. A 23% return on investment is a nice objective but I’ll bet that plenty of developers would still want to build here even with a lower return. Developer profits and real estate agents commissions are not the only important considerations in the development of a city. Quality of living, great schools and the beauty of the city are more important. It’s this short sightedness and thirst for profit that’s caused the mess we have in Arcadia today. That’s why there is an initiative to change the building codes--to put a stop to Arcadia’s Wild West days. CoreLogic shows that Arcadia’s home prices have dropped 14% from July 2014. Mr. Rosen notes that demand for new Arcadia

COLUMNS

homes is greater than 2014. Yet, the prices have dropped. Why is that? Could it be that Arcadia, with all its mansionization, is not the attractive investment it used to be? Meanwhile, San Marino, with much tougher building codes, has experienced a 10% increase. San Marino’s higher prices refute Mr. Rosen’s contention that sensible building codes hurt property values. Study after study show that strict, sensible building codes actually cause home prices to go up. People want to know that the neighborhood they buy into will be preserved, not destroyed by profit-hungry developers, real estate agents and a city hall that doesn’t care. Why is it that San Marino, Monrovia, Sierra Madre and most, if not all, cities in the San Gabriel Valley have a FAR and Arcadia does not? I’ve lived in Arcadia for 32 years and am dismayed at the senseless, relentless mansionization of my city. I’m not against development or people building a nice home. I just want to see sensible development that’s

harmonious with the neighborhood, development that respects existing homeowners and preserves the beauty of the city. -Roger Nemrava ARCADIA IN FAVOR OF THE TAX INCREASE IN SIERRA MADRE

Dear Editor: I just completed reading the Sierra Madre Watchman article in the Sierra Madre Weekly for November 19, 2015. I always find the Watchman’s articles entertaining. However, this article is not factual. I realize that the Watchman attends many City Council meetings and has an agenda to write about. The Watchman did not get the true facts in this case. I was a member of the UUT Committee and the Revenue Committee and all the members thoroughly reviewed the budgets of the departments and thoroughly reviewed the finances of the City; that included all receipts and expenditures. I can assure the Watchman that the City does have a financial problem because

there are not enough revenues coming in to maintain this City, even with contracting with other agencies to operate certain functions, and with all the cutbacks the City has done in the past three years. And according to a report we received, the City employees did NOT receive a pay increase this year. The last time the Police Association received a raise (cost of living increase) was July, 2011. The last time the non-police employees received a raise (cost of living increase) was July 2014; but that was offset by the increase they had to pay for the increase in their retirement system. We have other major problems in the City; such as water mains, wells, sewer lines, streets, sidewalks, curbs, etc., that need major repair and replacement and those need to be paid for also. They do not get repaired for free. There is a cost for everything. I am in favor of an increase in the UUT up to 10% from the current 8% and that increase will help the City meet its obligations and keep the City running as best as it can. It is not a cure all. As I have said before, if we citizens want to live in a wonderful village that we have, we all need to pay for it. Nothing comes for free. -Pat Holland SIERRA MADRE READERS RESPOND TO ‘REAL ESTATE PROS WEIGH IN ON ARCADIA HOME SIZE DEBATE’

WAA WAA WAA. Poor speculators, poor developers, poor realtors. The end is near. What will you do? Go back to selling existing homes to families moving to Arcadia. You know, like you used to and like the few remaining reputable realtors still do. Nothing wrong with selling existing homes to new residents willing to maintain the home and the neighborhood. It’s an honorable transaction that preserves Arcadia.

BeaconMediaNews.com

Oh sure, it might require a little more work and you’ll make less profit. But you’ll sleep better at night knowing you stopped trading Arcadia’s soul for your personal profit. Less peacock blood on your hands is a good thing. -James Whitehall Via ArcadiaWeekly.com

Arcadia’s building practices must change. I disagree with the hypothetical case study presented and suggest it is a “worst case” scenario not a conservative estimate. The latest in a string of scare tactics from the moneyedinterests bent on destroying Arcadia with the blessing of the city council. An important result of the zoning code change will be fewer homes torn down and more existing homes bought and remodeled. This will mean more homes that are affordable for current and future residents of Arcadia. The speculators, developers and realtors won’t like it. But it’s not their decision. And it’s not the decision of the city council that continues to sit on its hands. Arcadia belongs to its residents. And the residents are bringing change that will Preserve Arcadia’s future by Saving Arcadia’s present. -Mark Samarin Via ArcadiaWeekly.com Dear Editor: Former Mayor John Wuo knew nothing about any of this despite years of friendship and business ventures with Steve Chen and Solomon Sakurada. And the current city council members, many of whom worked for years with John Wuo, had no suspicion of any wrong doing within the city. Not one called for an investigation or sanctions. And so they sat silent for months while residents pointed out the obvious. The Arcadia Embarrassment Meter remains at full-tilt. They should all be recalled. -Mark Samarin Arcadia, Via Email

Hello Emmy, this year ends with my retirement account a bit bruised. Is there much I can do next year to shield myself?

Here are a few suggestions for your 2016 financial to-do list. One: continue to fund your retirement account and, if possible, increase your monthly contributions. Saving for retirement is an important long term-goal that requires monthly discipline - through thick and thin. Second, look a little closer at your current investments’ performance. Notice more than which ‘did well’ and what didn’t. Look for both consistencies and anomalies compared to past performance. Not all investment types or asset classes followed the same trends this year. Some specific sectors of the market performed quite well in 2015, even factoring in the recent volatility. Standard and Poor’s Information Technology index is up 9% for the year. Their Healthcare Index registered a 6% increase. The Consumer Discretionary sector, meaning luxury goods, rose a whopping 14%. Conversely, the Energy and Utility sectors sorely underperformed. Although past performance offers no guarantee of future returns, such market observations should be factored in when rebalancing your portfolio – and the start of a new year is a good time to do so. Next, view your shortterm and long-term financial goals through separate lenses. If one asset class performed particularly well this year – great. But if that now represents a larger proportion of your portfolio than originally intended, you

might want to lower that asset’s allocation. What goes up will eventually drop down. Don’t allow your retirement account to be overexposed in any one sector. Keep your holdings strategically diversified. Bonds, for example, probably didn’t earn as much as other investments. But that doesn’t mean you should dump them. This asset class is often intentionally purchased for stable income; not high returns. The take-away is ‘Aim for Balance’ this year and every year. Finally, if you own taxable investments that have lost money, consider selling some shares of those losing securities before the end of the year. Address this with a tax or financial professional to determine if accepting a loss on your tax return could beneficially offset significant

november 26 - december 2, 2015 | 7

taxable gains in 2015. As we approach the New Year, review your investments with a financial professional. Don’t go it alone. He, or she, will help you assess your retirement goals realistically and without over-emotion. Addressing these issues might help to determine whether your investment strategy needs to change in the coming year. With a fresh perspective on where you stand, you may be able to make better choices next year, which could potentially benefit your retirement goals over the long term.

This year, more than ever, I am most thankful for my family of friends. It has been a difficult year, but for today I am stopping to be thankful for all the good things, for all the things I take for granted, and even for the things I sometimes complain about. I'm going to eat, drink and enjoy and be thankful I

can. Tomorrow I'll start my diet. Well, maybe not tomorrow but as soon as the leftovers are gone. I share with you a little poem of wishes I received from a friend back in 2009: MAY YOUR STUFFING BE TASTY. MAY YOUR TURKEY BE PLUMP.

Inland Pacific Ballet Gearing up for Holiday Classic By Courtney Blackburn The tall red curtains at the Arcadia Performing Arts Center will soon part to usher in a holiday classic: The Nutcracker, performed by critically acclaimed Inland Pacific Ballet. This year, IPB is bringing The Nutcracker to Arcadia hot on the heels of Thanksgiving for Nov. 28-29, and then carrying the production onward to Claremont, Riverside, and Rancho Cucamonga. Last year, we went “behind the curtains” at IPB in preparation for 2014’s Nutcracker. It went so well, we did it again. On Saturday, Nov. 21, 2015, we descended on Arrow Highway in Montclair to see the work being done

ry year.” But continual tweaks to the choreography make it “fresh and new – constantly improving.” Through a sliding doorway, Ballet Mistress Jill Voznick took a break from rehearsing the Battle Scene to rope her husband, Arcadiaborn Steven Voznick, into a sit-down. Steve’s parents are longtime Arcadia residents of more than 40 years (mom Jean Voznick even started Arcadia High’s Orchesis dance company – what are the odds?). Steve took ballet while at Arcadia High and then went on to U.C. Irvine. He has danced professionally

behind the scenes to bring 2015’s The Nutcracker to life. A rehearsal of the Snow Scene was underway in the main studio. Young ladies in black leotards and multicolored knit legwarmers stretched and leapt through the air. Outside, Ballet Master Clinton Rothwell was just leaving. A ballet master teaches classes, conducts rehearsals, coaches, and works oneon-one with particular roles – in Clinton’s case, Clara, Fritz, and the Cavalier. Clinton is a character: big, gentle, and dignified, an artistic Santa Claus. When asked if he gets tired of the same Christmas production year after year, Clinton smiled. “When I was a dancer, I did Nutcracker 27 times eve-

with the Hartford Ballet, Cincinnati Ballet, Atlanta Ballet, Cleveland Ballet, and Arizona Ballet. Jill, a former pro with the Joffrey and Atlanta Ballets, met Steve when their respective companies put on a joint tour of Swan Lake. She was the company rep for the Atlanta Ballet. Steve was the rep for the Cleveland Ballet. After the tour, both companies celebrated their wedding. After their professional careers, Steve and Jill moved with their young daughter back to California to be around family. They discovered Inland Pacific Ballet while looking for ballet classes for their then-four-year-old, who is now studying for a dance career at Marymount College in New York. Steve explained, “I met Victoria in a class … she wrangled me into the Party Scene in the Nutcracker years ago, then I ended up partnering all the tall girls.” “Just sort of kismet,” Jill chimed in. “Ballet is a small world,” Steve affirmed. Jill was drawn in to IPB just as deeply, first as a substitute teacher, now as Co-Director and Ballet Mistress. Steve’s turn as Drosselmeyer in this 2015 Nutcracker will be his Arcadia

homecoming. “Last time I performed in Arcadia, I was in high school there, in 1980. I think I even have a yearbook photo in tights.” I asked, “So are your parents coming to the performance?” “Oh yeah!” Finally we caught up with Victoria Koenig, Artistic Director, who showed us a completely new side of Inland Pacific Ballet: the adjacent and overwhelmingly manly workshop of Robert Wollenzier, head carpenter, who is in charge of the sets and backgrounds – building, painting, transporting, and assembling at each venue. “Any projects you need done at home? Whatever we do, we do with theater magic.” Robert’s official title last year was Assistant Production Manager/ Scenic Builder. He and his crew of around 15 do all the heavy lifting for IPB’s productions these past 6-7 years. And all this preparation – the aches and pains, the sweat, the endless repetition and frustration of learning to do everything perfectly; what is it all for? Robert put it perfectly. “The benefit is knowing you make little children smile.” Each year, a whole new audience gets to see The Nutcracker for the first time, and it is for them – and their parents – that IPB dedicates their talent, hard work, and heart. A dazzling holiday tradition for the entire family, see The Nutcracker again or for the first time and be swept away in a winter wonderland. Performances of The Nutcracker take place at the Arcadia Performing Arts Center, 188 Campus Drive, Arcadia, CA 91007, Saturday, Nov. 28th at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday the 29th at 2 p.m.; Pomona College’s Bridges Auditorium, 450 North College Way, Claremont, CA 91711, Saturday, Dec. 5 at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. and Sunday the 6th at 2 p.m.; Fox Performing Arts Center, 3801 Mission Inn Avenue, Riverside, CA 92501, Saturday, Dec. 12th at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. and Sunday the 13th at 2 p.m.; and Lewis Family Playhouse, 12505 Cultural Center Drive, Rancho Cucamonga, CA 91739, Friday, Dec. 18th at 7:30 p.m., Saturday the 19th at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., and Sunday, the 20th at 2 p.m. Tickets start at $38 with senior/child/group discounts available. ‘The Little Match Girl’: Remember the Lost Creative Ballet Shows Darker Beauty of the Holiday Season By Courtney Blackburn “The Little Match Girl” is a short morality tale written by children’s fairytale author extraordinaire Hans Christian Andersen in 1895. In it, a little beggar girl freezes to death on New Year’s Eve. She lights her matches to keep warm, and instead is blessed with visions of the warmth and comfort – a Christmas tree towering with lights, a feast with roast goose and pudding, and her beloved grandmother, who comes to take her to heaven. It is a reminder that not everyone has a home or loving family as the winter winds begin to howl. Playing in the last weeks of November during a still-sunny California winter, Pacific Ballet Dance Theatre’s The Little Match Girl is a departure from the usual holiday fare of A Christmas Carol or The Nutcracker. The El Portal Theatre in North Hollywood hosted this two-night only event Nov. 21-22. Mixed with the musical Scraps, this re-imagining of the classic story finds our Little Match Girl trying to survive

Christmas Eve in Victorian England, where social snobbery and ragged street children are the norm. Narrated live by writer Richard Gilkerson in a booming baritone, this twoact show deepens the story with more plot and characters: revelers in a lively pub, butlers and cooks and snooty rich girls, and more than a dozen street children with names and personalities. Humor mixes beautifully with sorrow, and the story ends on a triumphant note. There is an element of 1920s-silent movie, and the whole ballet feels oldfashioned in a timeless way. The Little Match Girl is nameless; a vibrant waif of the streets who flirts with an arrogant servant boy, chases the past in the form of her dead mother, and ultimately finds herself alone and friendless on Christmas night. Elen Harutunyan commands the stage as The Little Match Girl, a tiny dynamo of fantastic leaps whose every silent sob and shiver breaks hearts in the audience. Her hopefulness, joy, spunk, and eventual de-

a portrait of her dead mother, and the emotions were so strong that no narration was needed. And none was

given, just the song “Hallelujah.” Harutunyan is opposed by Artur Alexsanyan as her

rough, uncaring father, and given kindness by Damara Titmus as her father’s girl, pub dancer Josie. The story flits in and out of grimy streets, servants’ quarters, posh ballet studios, and a jolly Irish pub. It reminds all of us, come Christmastime, that some are less fortunate than others and need love, warmth, and family just as much. It is an appeal to the human spirit of generosity. Artistic Director, Producer, and Co-Writer Natasha Middleton says of this production: “The Little Match Girl is one of my favorite period pieces, from the costumes to the music to the character ballet mixed with Celtic clogging ... and of course, the storyline that holds a candle to my own heart." May we all hold a candle to our hearts this holiday season, and never forget the brave Little Match Girl. Regus By J. Shadé Quintanilla Regus, the world’s largest office space provider, has recently opened a location in Arcadia, creating a special opportunity for business owners in the San Gabriel Valley. With two other locations in Pasadena and many in Southern California, the company has recently expanded its effort to accommodate and support local businesses in their individual ventures. Established in 1989, Regus was created after the company’s founder and current chief executive officer, Mark Dixon, observed that many business people worked out of hotels and cafes, completely lacking a professional environment to work in. With the goal of providing a suitable workspace for professionals at an affordable cost, Dixon opened the doors of the first Regus business center in Brussels, Belgium. Since then, the global office space provider has greatly expanded with 3,000 locations in 900 cities and 120 countries. The new Arcadia location, which opened this week, provides business owners with a variety of useful services that aims to build their individual

companies. Located in the Gateway building near the Arcadia Shopping Center, Regus has 77 different offices of varying sizes for local businesses looking for an office space that comes supplied with furniture of their choice, receptionist and administrative services, IT technology and high-speed internet. Entrepreneurs also have an option to choose between a plethora of services. From meeting rooms, day offices to coworking spaces and virtual office services for business owners who work from home, Regus helps local businesswomen and men cut costs that comes with leasing out an office by providing them office space that comes equipped with their needs. One of the notable services available to Regus’ clients is Businessworld membership. Created for business owners who do not always know where their work will take them, the membership allows clients to have access to the company’s 2000 drop-in business lounges all around the world, free WIFI and access to printers, scanners and fax machines. Businessworld members are also

eligible for discounts on meeting rooms and temporary private office space at Regus’ various locations. By providing business owners with Fortune 500 infrastructure overnight, the goal of Regus is to help businesses grow their clientele and help them generate as much income as possible. Through the company’s support services and office space, Regus has, in the past, helped small businesses expand their employees and even the amount of locations they have. “Our goal is to make [our clients] successful, and the way that we do that is through the way we support them,” said Michael Robertson, the general manager of the Arcadia location. “We’re set up to be partner with them for life for the businesses that they grow.” The Arcadia location is one many to come to the San Gabriel Valley. By early next year, the company plans on opening another location in West Covina. The Regus business center in Arcadia is located 440 E. Huntington Dr, Suite 300. El Monte Changes Park Name to Honor Veterans By J. Shadé Quintanilla In lieu of Veteran’s Day earlier this month, El Monte will honor the city’s veterans by changing the name of Gateway Park to Veteran’s Memorial Park. Located on the corner of Santa Anita Avenue and Valley Boulevard, the small pocket park sits underneath and adjacent to the elevated Metrolink tracks along the Rio Hondo River. The small green space was landscaped and developed in 2009 in honor of the city’s servicemen and women. With highflying flags from all the different branches of military and plaques honoring the names of each branch, the park is a proud display of El Monte’s

appreciation for its veterans. In order to further demonstrate the city’s recognition for servicemen and women, Councilmember Juventino Gomez suggested and advocated for the name change during two city council meetings this month. An active supporter of veterans throughout his term, Gomez made the thoughtful suggestion during his final months on the city council. “This park is so important to the city and the community because this city is a very pro-veteran community [that is] always taking their veterans, their servicemen and women, their soldiers past, present, future - always

into consideration,” he said. “In this corner of the world, it would be phenomenal if we could rename [the park].” Last week, the council unanimously voted for the name change and talked about possibly adding public art to the space to commemorate the city’s military veterans. Gomez asked city staff to look into putting up two life-sized bronze statues of a male and female solider with a M-60 in the ground next to combat boots. Councilmember Norma Macias also asked that the statues include the names of past military service members and a blank space for the names of future veterans. The two statues will potentially be erected near the military flags or take the place of a California bear statue that currently sits in the park. The bear was painted by high school when Gateway Park was created. City council is considering moving the bear to the Valley Mall or to a tot lot in the city. The council is unsure if the city has enough funding for the bronze statues, but Gomez noted that he would look into potential donors.

Coffee Temple City City Council Seeks Help in Reviewing With a Cop Las Tunas Designs

The City Council will host a study session on Dec. 1 to review three proposed streetscape design concepts for Las Tunas Drive. The meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Live Oak Park Community Center. Community feedback is welcome. Mayor Tom Chavez recognized that community involvement has enabled the city to move ahead with the revitalization of downtown. At the same time, he hopes residents will maintain their high level of involvement. “We truly hope citizens will join us to learn more about the proposed streetscape designs,” he said. “And, most importantly, to provide their thoughts.” All designs aim to upgrade an aging infrastructure, improve pedestrian safety and attract new businesses along Las Tunas. The study session will recap the corridor’s history, how planned streetscape designs evolved over time, and how they fit into the city’s plans and goals for its downtown area. The Council approved

the initial streetscape design concept for Las Tunas in 2012. This first iteration reduced travel lanes to one lane in each direction and introduced back-in angled parking. Following feedback from residents and local businesses, staff presented a revised concept in June 2015 that provides two westbound lanes, one eastbound lane and traditional parallel parking. A third concept was recently designed, which retains two travel lanes in each direction and focuses more on street beautification. This concept, along with the other two, will be presented at theDec. 1 study session. The Council will select a final design in January 2016. Live Oak Park Community Center is located at 10144 Bogue St. Translation will be available in Mandarin. For more information, email lastunas@templecity. us<mailto:lastunas@templecity.us> or call (626) 6567316.

All community members are invited to attend. The event will be held from 9 – 11:30 a.m., on Dec. 10, 2015, at The Greenhaus Café, 510 East Las Tunas Drive in San Gabriel, Coffee with a Cop provides a unique opportunity for community members to ask questions and learn more about the work of the police department in San Gabriel’s neighborhoods. The majority of contacts law enforcement has with the public happen during emergencies or other emotional situations. Those situations are not always the most effective times to build relationships with the community, and some community members may feel that officers are unapproachable on the street. Coffee with a Cop breaks down barriers and allows for a relaxed, one-on-one interaction. The program aims to advance the practice of community policing through improving relationships between police officers and community members, one cup of coffee at a time. Please contact Lieutenant Brian Kott for any further questions at (626) 308 - 2835 or BK076@sgpd.com.

Annual Small Business This Saturday Nov. 28 California’s 3.4 million small businesses are critical to the state’s economy. But starting and maintaining a small business can be challenging. To that end, there are valuable resources available for those currently in businesses and for those looking to do business in California, according to Assemblymember Chris Holden: http://asmdc. org/issues/openforbusiness/ additional-resources This website features local contacts, networking opportunities, and a step-bystep guide to the practicalities of starting and running a small business. One local business, Vista Windows owner Phil Rodriguez said, “Small businesses play an important role in America’s society, they help the local economy thrive by providing job opportunities and creating more new jobs than larger firms. Small businesses give opportunity to people with entrepreneurial spirits and the will to work hard.” One of the things that make small business successful is that our many local customers appreciate that they can come in and speak directly to the owners, said Chris Holden. The also prefer to do business with a local small business rather than dealing with a big box store, they realize that their dollars are better spent when invested in their community. Jerry Mascott of Mascott Insurance said, “Small business is the life blood of U.S. Business. My company has provided a comfortable income for my family and my employees since 1969.” Last year for Small Business Saturday, 88 million people came out to Shop Small and made it a day to remember across the country. This year, organizers want to make an even bigger impact by showing our love for the businesses that put their hearts into everything they do. So get up, get out, and Shop Small on Saturday, Nov. 28, 2015. The Monrovia Chamber of Commerce and the Monrovia Old Town Merchants have signed up with American Express again this year to promote Small Business Saturday on Nov. 28. Once again this year the Monrovia Chamber will have a table at Lemon and Myrtle Avenues promoting “Shop Local, Shop Small.” They’ll be giving out American Express promotional items to shoppers and offering a chance to win a beautiful gift basket as well as other prizes. Mayfield Senior School Empowers Young Women By May S. Ruiz Enter the gates of Mayfield Senior School of the Holy Child Jesus, and you will understand why it’s a highly sought-out institution among hundreds of girls. It is a quiet, peaceful setting, away from the chaos and noise of the city, where young minds can focus unencumbered. A former grand residence near Pasadena’s Millionaires’ Row (Orange Grove Blvd.), it is now home to about 330 students who learn as much about academics as service to each other and the community. Kate Morin, who became Mayfield’s Head of School this year, puts much emphasis on this esteemed institution’s motto “Actions Not Words.” She stated, “The mission of the school is to find and seek the divine in each of us; when we believe that there is a higher power within us, it informs our actions. It’s about sisterhood and compassion – taking care of each other.”

As she recalls the first time she visited the school a year ago, Ms. Morin said, “When I first stepped on campus I felt as if I’ve come home – this is where I’m being called to be in and it’s wonderful that they agreed too. It was such a blessing because I knew this was the right place for me.” Three months into her stewardship, Ms. Morin’s presentiment has deepened and she voiced this observation, “The school is living its mission of where girls could find themselves … with lots of support from their teachers, the administration, and each other. My first impression has been reinforced as I spent more time here.” College counselors Abigail Shaw and Lori Holtrust wholeheartedly agree with Ms. Morin’s assertion about the support Mayfield offers its students. As Ms. Holtrust put it, “The teacher/student relationship is a beautiful thing to witness. We pride

ourselves in creating relationships with each individual student.” Ms. Shaw and Ms. Holtrust exemplify Mayfield’s commitment to advancing their charges’ best interest. They have a markedly different approach to college counseling, apart from all other schools’ method. They work in tandem – every student gets to meet both counselors. The college application process starts in earnest in 11th grade, according to Ms. Shaw. “The girls are ready to step into the world of college admissions and they have a Junior College Night where all parents come. We meet with each junior individually, with her parents; we offer two college tours – one on the east coast and another on the west coast.” “In junior year the goal is for students to ask themselves what they’re looking for in a college, and do some serious self-reflection,” con-

The discernment is the beginning of the college application process.” Ms. Morin points out that when girls first arrive on campus, they’re still little 13- and 14-year-olds. “We don’t talk about college early on; we want them to be in the moment of high school. We first make sure we create a healthy balance and a mindfulness. When the time comes, we’ll work with them step by step, line by line, as our foundress Cornelia Connelly taught us.” “The joy of our job is looking at what they think they want, and seeing where they end up in,” Ms. Shaw chimed in. “Sometimes where they end up isn’t what they started out with.” This seeming disparity is evident even in the school’s diverse enrollment. Ms. Shaw illustrated this. “Twenty years ago we had a duchess from Portugal and a girl from South Central L.A. who bussed herself here. We pull from all walks of life, we have breadth in our community, and our students get exposed to a global society.” Service is integral to

They perform a certain number of service hours as part of their ministry and every student participates in a beloved annual tradition known as Cornelia Connelly Day (Annual Service Day). Ms. Morin says this year they went to 34 sites in Los Angeles and Pasadena to work with the developmentally disabled, at the Downtown Mission, and other such organizations. These experiences leave a lasting impression on these young women as they set about starting non-profit service clubs aimed at helping the less fortunate. The embodiment of the school’s

mission informs the choices Mayfield students make as they think about college. In the same vein, a spirit of mindfulness applies as they go through the self-reflection process and keep all their options open. Ms. Holtrust said, “Two years ago, 68 seniors went on to attend 58 colleges and universities – a very broad spectrum.” But the one common quality every student will take with her as she leaves Mayfield is her sense of empowerment. Ms. Morin confidently pronounced, “Each of them is armed with the knowledge that she is a powerful agent of change for the good, who has the wisdom to know how to use her skills to make the world a better place.”

Pasadena Unified Special Education Seminar

The Pasadena Unified School District’s (PUSD) Parent University invites families to a free seminar for families called “Special Education 101: Navigating the Special Education System” Wednesday, Dec. 2, 2015, at 5:30 p.m. at the McKinley School Library, located at 225 S. Oak Knoll Ave., Pasadena. All families are welcome to learn how they can partner with schools to support their children’s success whether their child has a disability

or shares a classroom with children who do. Parents will learn how the diversity of children in classrooms enriches the everyday learning experiences of the children, families, teachers and staff of PUSD schools. Dec. 2 is National Special Education Day and marks the anniversary of the signing of the federal Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), which was signed into law by President Gerald Ford in 1975.

Spanish translation and child care for school-age children will be available PUSD’s Parent University builds families’ access to knowledge about what children are learning; the workings of the school system; how to provide educational support to their children; and how to partner with teachers and schools to advocate for their children’s educational needs. A new California Appellate case just published August 8, 2013, “Glaski v. Bank of America”, holds that a homeowner can challenge his lender’s right to foreclose by showing that the Deed of Trust never made it into the securitized trust until after the trust’s closing date. This issue is now squarely before the California Supreme Court in Yvanova v. New Century Mortgage Corp. This is the case in most loans made in the last 12 years. If the bank foreclosed we should be able to get the homeowner money damages and/or the house back. Or a lawsuit could be filed and a court ruling obtained preventing the court from foreclosing. Recently enacted Sections 2924(a)(6) and 2924.19 of California Civil Code provide the same relief to homeowners. It is highly suggested that homeowners take this window of opportunity to get relief before the banks get Congress to close this door with national legislation. Contact us so we can help you.

New Tech Helps Handlers Monitor Well-Being of Guide Dogs

Researchers at North Carolina State University have developed a device that allows people who are blind to monitor their guide dogs, in order to keep tabs on the health and well-being of their canine companions. “Dogs primarily communicate through their movements and posture, which makes it difficult or impossible for people who are blind to fully understand their dogs’ needs on a moment-to-moment basis,” says David Roberts, an assistant professor of computer science at NC State and co-author of a paper describing the new technology. “This challenge is particularly pronounced in guide dogs,

who are bred and trained to be outwardly calm and avoid drawing attention to themselves in public.” To address this need, the researchers have developed a suite of technologies that monitor a dog’s breathing and heart rate and share the information with the dog’s handler. “Our goal is to let guide

dog handlers know when their dogs are stressed or anxious,” says Sean Mealin, a Ph.D. student at NC State and lead author of the paper. “This is important because it is widely believed that stress is a significant contributing factor to early retirement of guide dogs and other service animals. The technology may also be able to help handlers detect other health problems, such as symptoms of heat exhaustion.” The issue is particularly important to Mealin, who is blind and works with his own guide dog, Simba. The research team had previously developed monitoring technologies that are incorporated into a lightweight harness that can be worn by rescue or service dogs. The trick was to find a way to share that monitoring data with users who are blind – and to do so in a way that allows those users to act on the information. The researchers developed a specialized handle that attaches to a guide dog’s harness. The handle is equipped with two vibrating motors. One motor is embedded in the handle by the handler’s thumb, and vibrates – or beats – in time with the dog’s heart rate. When the dog’s heart rate increases, so does the rate at which the motor beats. The second motor is embedded in the handle near the handler’s pinky finger, and vibrates in synch with the dog’s breathing. The vibration increases and decreases in intensity, to simulate the dog breathing in and out. “We wanted to use electronic signals that intuitively make sense for the dog handlers,” Roberts says. The prototype handle has been tested using simulated heart rate and respiratory data, and was found to be effective at accurately conveying information to users. “We’re refreshing the design and plan to do additional testing with guide-dog handlers,” Roberts says. “Our ultimate goal is to provide technology that can help both guide dogs and their people. That won’t be in the immediate future, but we’re optimistic that we’ll get there.”

Chu, Hirono, Cornyn, & Royce Push for Minority College Students Bipartisan Legislation Allows Eligible Minority-Serving Institutions to Provide Greater Opportunities to Minority Students Senators Mazie K. Hirono and John Cornyn (R-TX), and Representatives Judy Chu (D-CA) and Ed Royce (R-CA) introduced the Minority-Serving Institution Fairness Act in the U.S. Senate and U.S. House of Representatives today - legislation that would make MinorityServing Institutions (MSI) eligible to compete for, and receive, multiple federal grants for the purpose of serving a wider range of minority students. “Hawaii’s colleges and universities serve diverse populations of students, and they shouldn’t be limited to supporting just one student population with MSI funding,” said Senator Hirono. “Targeted outreach to minority students is proven to work. The University of Hawaii system and other Minority-Serving Institutions are currently forced to make the difficult decision of choosing which student population to serve. Our bipartisan legislation will allow these colleges and universities to improve student success by better serving

the needs of multiple, diverse student populations.” “Texas colleges and universities that serve a diverse population of students should not face bureaucratic hurdles to providing a top-notch education to our next generation,” said Senator Cornyn. “I’m pleased to work with Senator Hirono in this effort to allow schools to compete for multiple Minority-Serving Institution grants to improve educational outcomes across the board.” Currently, there are seven grants available to MSIs, each targeted towards a specific ethnic minority student population. However, under current law, while an MSI may have a diverse student body made up of different ethnicities, most are limited to receiving grants that serve one population at a time. For example, institutions with both a high Hispanic and Asian population currently have to choose which population to serve with MSI funding. The Minority-Serving Institution Fairness Act would allow

MSIs to compete for funding for both types of grants for which they qualify, improving educational opportunities for a wider range of students on their campuses. “Numerous California State University (CSU) campuses provide high quality educational opportunities to large numbers of low-income students from California’s extremely diverse Hispanic and Asian American and Pacific Islander communities,” said California State University Chancellor Timothy P. White. “This bill aims to broaden opportunities for multi-diverse institutions to compete for funding that would enhance the success of all of these students by utilizing innovative, tailored strategies. The CSU appreciates the leadership of Senators Hirono and Cornyn, and Representatives Chu and Royce in this effort and looks forward to working with the Congress on this issue as reauthorization of the Higher Education Act progresses.” “APIASF supports the MSI Fairness Act and ap-

You should also be aware that the lien being auctioned off may be a junior lien. If you are the highest bidder at the auction, you are or may be responsible for paying off all liens senior to the lien being auctioned off, before you can receive clear title to the property. You are encouraged to investigate the existence, priority, and size of outstanding liens that may exist on this property by contacting the county recorder’s office or a title insurance company, either of which may charge you a fee for this information. If you consult either of these resources, you should be aware that the same lender may hold more than one mortgage or deed of trust on the property. NOTICE TO PROPERTY OWNER: The sale date shown on this notice of sale may be postponed one or more times by the mortgagee, beneficiary, trustee, or a court, pursuant to Section 2924g of the California Civil Code. If you wish to learn whether your sale date has been postponed, and if applicable, the rescheduled time and date for the sale of this property, you may call (916)939-0772 or visit this Internet Web http://search.nationwideposting.com/propertySearchTerms.aspx, using the file number assigned to this case CA1000194120 Information about postponements that are very short in duration or that occur close in time to the scheduled sale may not immediately be reflected in the telephone information or on the Internet Web site. Torlakson Announces Physical Fitness Test Results Show Students Mostly Holding Steady State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tom Torlakson announced that the percentage of students who met the Healthy Fitness Zone (HFZ) performance standards in all six areas declined slightly but mostly remained stable this year, according to the results of the 2014‒15 Physical Fitness Test. “The release of these results is a good reminder that all parents and role models need to encourage children to eat nutritious foods and exercise regularly,” said Torlakson. “Students need to be healthy to succeed in the classroom and beyond.” More than 1.3 million students in grades five (455,897), seven (439,476), and nine (441,730) took the FITNESSGRAM® during the 2014‒15 school year - a series of six separate tests that measure aerobic capacity, body composition, abdominal strength, trunk extensor strength, upper body strength, and flexibility. In all three grades the percentage of students who performed all six tests at the

highest level decreased compared to the last two years. Overall, approximately 26.4 percent of students in grade five, 32.5 percent of students in grade seven, and 37.6 percent of students in grade nine scored at the highest levels, called the HFZ. This represents levels of fitness that offer protection against diseases resulting from sedentary living. Torlakson, an avid runner and former high school cross country and track coach, demonstrated his commitment to fitness by launching a Team California for Healthy Kids initiative shortly after taking office. The initiative brings together educators, community leaders, athletes, and other celebrities to help schools offer healthy choices to students. Students continued to improve in Aerobic Capacity from 2013 to 2015, one of the six areas assessed annually and is considered among the most important gauges of health. Aerobic Capacity is the ability to perform large

muscle, high-intensity exercise for prolonged periods. Please note that the HFZ performance standards for the Body Mass Index (BMI), one of the three body composition test options under Body Composition, were updated for the 2013‒14 fitness assessment period. Thus, current Body Composition scores cannot be compared to previous years. This is the 16th year for reporting physical fitness test results in California public schools. The program was first authorized in 1976 and reestablished in 1995 by Assembly Bill 265. The following year, the State Board of Education designated FITNESSGRAM® as the required physical fitness test to be administered to students in grades five, seven, and nine. The 2014–15 physical fitness results for schools, school districts, counties, and the state are available on the California Department of Education (CDE) Physical Fitness Test Results Web page.

Spectator Sports By Ellie Lee, AHS Correspondent Where would our fellow Apache athletes be without the support from their friends and family? The crowds and spectators give the boost of adrenaline and confidence players need to give it their all. While the game is going on, there are always people on the bleachers who are cheering them on and giving the team moral support. Without fans attending games, players would lose an essential aspect of the competitive atmosphere. Thus, let’s delve into the minds of Arcadia spectators and hear their feedback regarding AHS sporting events. “I love watching the Girls’ Varsity Volleyball team play because of all the suspense during the games. I like watching volleyball because it is one of my favorite sports. In addition, I love watching the Girls’ Varsity Volleyball team gain a point after a long rally. It’s amazing to see [the girls] quickly change from serious to screaming with joy. Another favorite moment is when someone does a miraculous save out of nowhere. That usually makes the audience go wild and it’s just very exciting to watch when someone does that. I

think cheering is one of the most important parts in a volleyball game. Since volleyball does not have cheerleaders cheering them on like football, all the [enthusiasm comes from] the team members on the bench and the spectators. Cheering honestly helps the team play better and makes the opposing team feel intimidated while your team feels more encouraged and spirited.” —Rachel Yin, 9 “I also love to attend volleyball games because it is such an exciting sport. It’s exciting due to its fast pace and aggressiveness. I cheer on the team with cheers such as the ‘I believe’ chant. The most interesting part of the game for me is when the rallies are long because it’s so nerveracking and loud. These are the moments where ‘cheer wars’ between the fans of the opposing teams occur. I can get pretty loud during games and sometimes I lose my voice, but it’s totally worth it since I get to motivate the players.” —Erin Fong, 10 “I attend AHS games because I love to support my fellow Apaches and cheer them on. I especially love to watch games to observe people bet-

ter than me. From watching the people better than me, I can learn some of their techniques. For me, I really like to watch soccer games when the players don’t flop and there’s a lot of passing involved.” —Stephanie Yen, 10 “I like to watch because I enjoy seeing how well people can join together and bond while performing tasks as a team. I love it when a team accomplishes its goals. It just feels really good to see that all the players’ hard work and practice have paid off.” —Oscar Lau, 11 “I attend AHS sporting events because I love to support our Apaches and to see their hard work [amount to success]. When I cheer, I usually just follow the Pep Squad’s chants. I find it very interesting when the team interacts with the spectators. I enjoy seeing our team score and achieve its goals!” —Tyler Wong, 12 Win or loss, it is clear that all Apache players have wonderful spectators cheering them all on, wishing the best for them. These games are enjoyable for both the players and the people on the bleachers. Keep on supporting Arcadia sports teams!
