A special meeting of the El Monte City Council convened Aug. 4th to discuss whether or not the position of mayor should be one that rotates throughout the council, effectively limiting the power of that position. If passed, the measure would save the city money by eliminating costly mayoral elections. Mayor Andre Quintero himself, however, was absent from the dais. He was supposed to telecommute in from where he is currently vacation-

ing at the Hilton on Waikiki Beach, Oahu, but due to “technical issues” his call never came through. The meeting was rescheduled for Aug. 6, 2015, and will be held in El Monte City Hall. The meeting follows what has been an interesting year, politically, for El Monte officials. Last week, the Los Angeles Times ran an article lambasting the city for having the loosest water conservation policy SEE PG. 17
