Attempted murder suspect, Alfred Tapia, arrested by LASD

But keeping your financial house in order often is one of those things that gets pushed down on the priority list,” said Tena Lozano, consumer advocacy manager for the California Credit Union League. Lozano recommended people examine their financial situation at least annually, and even more

In December 2013, 34-year-old Alfred Tapia, a known gang member from the Whittier area of Los Angeles County had been identified as being responsible for three separate vicious stabbing attacks in the cities of Pico Rivera, Whittier, and Chino. At the time of the reported crimes, Tapia was the subject of a massive manhunt by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department and United States Marshal’s Office. Tapia was ultimately located in late December 2013, when he was arrested and subsequently convicted of

Worldwide a child is diagnosed with cancer every three minutes, and one in five children diagnosed in the U.S. will not survive. With only 4 percent of all federal cancer research funding dedicated to pediatric cancer research, St. Baldrick’s Foundation volunteers, supporters and donors are needed to continue the battle against this devastating disease. Aubrey Castro was diagnosed in May 2013 with ALL leukemia and is currently undergoing maintenance treatment. Her mother, Vanessa Castro and their family will

Will/estate plans frequently after reaching retirement age. “A will or estate plan is one of the most important things you can do for your family,” Lozano said. “Having a will avoids a great deal of unnecessary legal action for the family.” She also recommended updating a living will each year as well, and especially when there’s a major life event like the birth of a child or a change in marital status. Lozano said it is also important for people to check their account balances and statements regularly. “It is also extremely important to know what is in your credit report,” she said. “People often are surprised at what is in their credit report when it gets pulled for a loan. Checking your report annually will help you keep it free from errors that could potentially cause you to pay more for a loan.” Here are 10 tips for putting your financial house in order: 1. Update your will as needed. 2. Take a video tour of your house for insurance documentation and store it in a safe deposit box. 3. Make sure your personal information is up to date with all financial vendors. 4. Update the beneficiaries for all your accounts

and insurance policies. 5. Review your insurance coverage and make necessary adjustments. 6. Check your credit report carefully for any errors. You can request a free copy of your credit report by visiting www.annualcreditreport.com. 7. Reassess your retirement plan and monitor retirement accounts. 8. Examine your loans for refinancing opportunities. You may be able to lower your monthly payment or pay the loan off sooner. One option is to seek out the services of your local credit union, which often can provide lower rates and loan fees than other financial institutions. 9. Go through financial files and toss what you don’t need. Keep tax returns forever, but throw away supporting documents after six years. Be sure to shred any sensitive information. 10. Make a comprehensive list of financial information including all accounts, property deeds, insurance policies, estate plan and living will. Make sure a spouse or family member knows where to access the records if the need arises. (Shel Segal can be reached at ssegal@beaconmedianews.com. He can be followed via Twitter @ segallanded.)

One of the great things about being a car lover is that we can all have our own point of view on what makes a sports coupe deserving to be part of the ‘World’s Greatest.’” With such a broad history, narrowing the greatest sports coupes ever down to twelve choices was no easy task. The exhibit will also feature photography by Scott Williamson, which will highlight important sports coupes that were not included by any of the celebrity curators but deserve recognition. “Sports coupes are the reason most of us fell in love with the automobile in the first place,” said executive director of the Petersen, Terry Karges. “These vehicles represent

the pinnacle of art, design, engineering and performance and have been built all over the world. Choosing a dozen sports coupes to represent the finest of the breed was no easy task, which is why we invited the world’s most prominent car collectors to guest curate this exhibit. “I have always considered philanthropy a duty of those who are able, especially when it comes to honoring our veterans,” said Gatto. “I thank The Home Depot Foundation for stepping forward, in a big way, to ensure that the Crescenta Valley veterans have a facility worthy of the great sacrifices they have made for us.” The Home Depot Foundation serves as the philanthropic arm of The Home Depot and has invested more than $380 million in local communities since being established in 2002. tively engaging our communities to incorporate water conservation into our daily lives. “We all have an individual responsibility to meet the Governor’s call for a 20 percent reduction in water use. What we conserve today will be stored for later use if this drought continues. Furthermore, reductions in water use ultimately results in money saved due to less costly water bills each month, ” Upper District President Tony Fellows said. So what can you do to reduce your water usage by 20 percent? Here are some simple tips: • Installing aerators on bathroom faucets can save 1.2 gallons per person/

day

• Fixing leaky toilets saves 30-50 gallons per day/ toilet • Wash only full loads of clothes saves 15-45 gallons per load • Taking 5 minute showers saves 12.5 gallons with a water efficient showerhead. Also, installing lowflow shower heads saves 2.5 gallons • Install a water and energy-efficient dishwasher can save 3 to 8 gallons a load. • Use a broom instead of a hose to clean driveways, sidewalks and patios can save 8-18 gallons a minute. • Water early in the morning or later in the eve-

ning when temperatures are cooler can save 25 gallons each time you water. • Wash cars/boats with a bucket, sponge, and hose with self-closing nozzle can save: 8-18 gallons a minute. Said sale will be made in an “AS IS” condition, but without covenant or warranty, expressed or implied, regarding title, possession, or encumbrances, to pay the remaining principal sum of the note(s) secured by said Deed of Trust, with interest thereon, as provided in said note(s), advances, if any, under the terms of the Deed of Trust, estimated fees, charges and expenses of the Trustee and of the trusts created by said Deed of Trust, towit: $426,386.00 (Estimated). Accrued interest and additional advances, if any, will increase this figure prior to sale. It is possible that at the time of sale the opening bid may be less than the total indebtedness due. NOTICE TO POTENTIAL BIDDERS: If you are considering bidding on this property lien, you should understand that there are risks involved in bidding at a trustee auction. You will be bidding on a lien, not on the property itself. Placing the highest bid at a trustee auction does not automatically entitle you to free and clear ownership of the property. You

should also be aware that the lien being auctioned off may be a junior lien. If you are the highest bidder at the auction, you are or may be responsible for paying off all liens senior to the lien being auctioned off, before you can receive clear title to the property. You are encouraged to investigate the existence, priority, and size of outstanding liens that may exist on this property by contacting the county recorder’s office or a title insurance company, either of which may charge you a fee for this information. If you consult either of these resources, you should be aware that the same lender may hold more than one mortgage or deed of trust on the property. NOTICE TO PROPERTY OWNER: The sale date shown on this notice of sale may be postponed one or more times by the mortgagee, beneficiary, trustee, or a court, pursuant to Section 2924g of the California Civil Code. The law requires that information about trustee sale postponements be made available to you and to the public, as a courtesy to those not present at the sale.
