On Friday, May 3, 2013 at 2:39 p.m., Glendale Fire and Police Departments received reports of a brush fire at the 134 and 2 freeways in the city of Glendale. Glendale units arrived on scene and discovered a brush fire on the west side of the 2 freeway. Firefighters battled the flames, how-
ever winds carried embers across the freeway and into Glenoaks and Chevy Chase Canyon. Firefighters from Glendale, Pasadena, Burbank, the Forest Service, LA City and County Fire Departments battled the fire utilizing 35 engines, five hand crews, five helicopters and the Forest Ser-
City of Glendale and IBEW Local 18 at impasse over salary negotiations The City of Glendale is seeking to resolve an impasse over labor negotiations with its GWP employee bargaining group, International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 18. On March 29, 2012 the City offered its Last, Best and Final offer. That offer was rejected by IBEW in April 2012 which effectuated the City’s declaration of impasse. The IBEW Local 18 commenced negotiations with the City in June of 2011 over salary, benefits and pen-
sion efforts. The city has been in the forefront of pension reform across all bargaining units except IBEW. The Union has also rejected a City settlement offer which originally sought greater contributions by employees in the funding of pension and health benefits. The City’s post-impasse settlement proposal, dated June 20, 2012, reduced PERS cost-sharing amount from 1.75% to 1.00% and mediPlease see page 5

Arcadia Police investigating fatal hit and run Suspect vehicle is “electric blue” Mitsubishi On May 7, 2013 shortly before 8:00 p.m., APD received a series of 9-1-1 calls in reference a traffic collision that occurred in the 200 block of west Foothill Blvd. The collision reportedly involving a motorcycle. Upon arrival, officers discovered a motorcyclist had been involved in a traffic collision with an automobile. The rider was down and severely injured; the other involved party fled the scene in the car. The motorcyclist was treated at the scene by Arcadia Fire Department Paramedics and transported to Huntington Memorial Hos-

pital. He later died from injuries sustained in the collision. The rider’s name was initially withheld so the family could be notified. The
