LeRoy took a job as a soda jerk at Gwen’s and later a shortorder cook. In 1971 he opened the first LeRoy’s on Foothill at 1st Ave. Two years later he was able to move into “The Breakfast King” location, where LeRoy’s still stands and serves perfectly cooked breakfast and lunch daily. Now owned by Dino Bicos, who kept every employee on the payroll, and didn’t change a thing when he took over in 2003, LeRoy’s is still a family owned and operated icon in Monrovia. Many of the current staff has been there 10 years or longer, and if we are lucky, many decades to come!

Tri Maids clean homes using environmentally safe, Green products. It is the only house cleaning service in Los Angeles County using probiotic cleaning products, which are the safest and help eliminate bacteria, Blanton said. Tri Maids staff cleans the way they’d want their own homes cleaned, Blanton said, adding, housecleaning isn’t a glamorous job; however, it’s personal to customers, as staff work in clients’ homes, bathrooms, kitchens and bedrooms. “It’s important to have respect for being a part of [the clients’] lives,” Blanton said. Tri Maids’ employees work hard, have fun, and have low turnover; many have been with the company for more than 10 years. Tri Maids hours are 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Monrovia’s annual Veterans Day commemoration took place at 11 a.m. on Friday, November 11, at the Armed Services Memorial in front of the Monrovia Public Library in Library Park at 321 South Myrtle.
The Veterans Day program in Monrovia was sponsored by the Allied Veterans Council. Master of ceremonies Scott Sinclair, president of the Allied Veterans Council. A surprise guest made a
special appearance at the podium. WWII Veteran Mitsuo Kunihiro, 93, of Sierra Madre made a brief statement and proudly displayed his Nisei Congressional Gold Medal he received earlier this month in Wash-
ington, D.C. After the ceremony, a WW11 Veteran approached Beacon Media and said he was offended that the city neglected to place the US Flag along Myrtle to honor the Vets as they usually do.

In 2008, it was federally designated by the State of California as the Community Action Agency for the Foothill Area. Joan has been instrumental in generating many grants and donations in support of the Center. Under her guidance, the organization has expanded from 1 to 20 employees and 5 to 2,400 volunteers. Its facilities have also expanded dramatically, from a single 900‐square‐foot location to three sites, two in Monro-

Under her energetic
