Education is not just about academic success. However, it does not matter how academically successful students are if they do not have the confidence to share their views in conversation with others. This is what I aim to develop in the next few months here at Gulshan Primary Campus. Each child would be given opportunities to the best of his/her abilities. Student Hygiene was an area of focus and it will further be taken up in . the next term.

It gives me immense pleasure to connect with you all through our School Newsletter.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of you for your encouragement and bearing patience with me while I assumed this new role. It has been a great and eventful academic term for each one of us and I take pride in saying that all students at Gulshan Primary Campus have worked up to their own individual . potential.

We have the pleasure of being able to spend a great deal of time with your children and we have the privilege of being able to offer them a wide and varied education but we wish to work with you all in partnership in order to create the best childhood experiences, we can for our children. Wish you a joyful winter break along with your kids.

I believe in making school a happy place where each child is given the freedom to bring in his / her own thoughts and personalities. All these students and our staff combine and make GPC a place worthy to study.

News & Events ASSESSMENT FOR LEARNING Students of class IV enjoyed a fascinating experience of hands-on Math and Science assessments. This is an effective and innovative way to measure performance.

Students enjoyed all assessment tasks the way they enjoy their class activities, in a relaxed and playful manner. It provided students a high quality testing experience by breaking the monotony of traditional paper-pencil testing.

ANNUAL SPORTS DAY Physical education is an integral part of the BSS curriculum. Sports are the epitome of hard work and dedication. The Annual Sports Day for Classes I and II was held at Pavilion End Club on 14th December, 2016. It was indeed a colourful day full of excitement and energy as students actively participated in different activities like Zumba, Band, Taekwondo, Gymnastics, etc.

DAWN SPELLING BEE Dawn Spelling Bee districts rounds were held at Arts Council Auditorium, Karachi on 28 t h October, 2016. Ammar Kazim, Ariz Abbas and Rashna Zafar represented BSS GPC from Level V at this most exciting yet challenging event. It was a great learning experience for all of our super spellers. This competition challenged our students on academic and intellectual grounds. Although, our participants could not qualify for the next round, we are still proud of them and appreciate them for their hard work.

DEFENCE DAY th

On 7 September, 2016, the young soldiers of GPC paid respect to the spirit of the martyrs of the war 1965, honored courageous armed forces of Pakistan by celebrating Defence Day. The celebration included a variety of items like songs, speeches, tableau, march-past, skits and narrated acts demonstrating patriotism.

EID MILAN PARTY School events do not only provide students with an opportunity to socialise and enjoy with friends but it also proves to be a learning experience in many ways.

Eid Milan Party was celebrated at GPC where the focus was on teaching table manners to the students. It was a day full of colours and laughter as a Magic Show was also organized by the management for the students.

News & Events ELECTION FEVER .

Phase 1 All the teachers were provided with a Student Council Compatibility Checklist where they marked all the students of their class against the given criteria which included behavior and conduct, academics, punctuality, hygiene, . communication skills, confidence, leadership quality, and regularity. .

Phase 2 The selected candidates for the Students Council Elections 2016-2017 prepared short motivational speeches and campaigned around the school with posters, . badges, wrist bands, etc. to promote themselves. .

Phase 3 The democratic process of selection of a leader could be seen in full bloom at Gulshan Primary Campus as the students voted for their favourite candidates.

This provided the students with a hands-on experience of democracy and its intricacies. Furthermore, the electronic voting system was a glimpse into the future of the electoral process.

FRUITY FUN Gulshan Primary Campus believes that healthy eating habits are of prime importance for an active and fit lifestyle.

Therefore, our students are always encouraged to bring healthy lunch from home. A fruit break was introduced in this term in which the students brought along any fruit of their choice from home and ate it prior to going in the ground for break.

GLOBAL DIGNITY DAY Global Dignity Day celebrations were spread over a period of one week at Gulshan Primary Campus.

There were numerous activities planned and carried out to instill the concept and importance of dignity amongst our students. The students prepared thank you cards for the support staff in order to acknowledge their tireless efforts for the school and students. They also prepared bookmarks about respect and wrote poems. The students enjoyed working on comic strips about acts of kindness during this week and also wrote Dignity Day resolutions. On the Culmination Day, there were many speeches, role-plays and interviews. The celebrations came to an end on a positive note. All the staff members made a boundary by holding hands around the students in order to show that we all work together in unity and harmony. .

Farzam of VA shared his views with us, “I believe dignity is the most important aspect of every human's life and we must make sure we give respect to others in order to get respect from them.�

News & Events HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY 69th Independence Day of Pakistan was celebrated with great zeal and patriotism at Gulshan Primary Campus. The students prepared and presented many enthusiastic performances which displayed their love for our country including a cultural walk, many melodious songs, motivating speeches, and skits with morals.

HRCA ENGLISH AND SCIENCE QUIZ 2016 - 2017 An English and Science Speed Tests were conducted in the classes where all the students attempted both the tests in a given period of time. The top scorers were selected to be a part of the HRCA Science and English Quiz's Elimination Round. The tests were sent by HRCA and conducted in the school.

Second and Grand Finale Rounds were also conducted afterward. Marium Navaid (VI-E) achieved a bronze medal in the English Quiz while Ahmed Muneeb (V-F) achieved a gold medal in the Science Quiz.

INTER HOUSE ENGLISH DEBATE COMPETITION 2016 - 2017 Students learn the skills of critical thinking and effective communication that serve them well in school. It also enhances their self-confidence and . develops leadership qualities.

The students of Classes III- VI competed against each other in the Inter House English Debate Competition in their respective levels. They imparted their insights and contentions with brilliant firmness and style on the . following topics: .

Class III - Video games are a cause of bad behavior in children. .

Class IV - People with competitive approach are far more successful than . those with cooperative approach. .

Class V - Reading is a dying interest. .

Class VI - Newspaper is a thing of the past.

The top two scorers from each level were selected for SG based debate competition.

IN THE SPOTLIGHT Saad Farooqui, who is a student of Class VI F, successfully completed his 70-410 exam for MCSA with 791/1000 points at the age of 12 years. He has made us all proud by becoming the 8th Youngest Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP) in the world. He shared his experience with us, “I love doing all sorts of stuff with computers and my future goals include becoming a MCSM. I also wish to become a software engineer to serve my country, Pakistan.�

News & Events INTER HOUSE URDU AND ENGLISH ELOCUTION COMPETITION 2016-2017 Elocution is the art of learning how to speak correctly and emphasizes on the correct accent, grammar, pronunciation, tone and stress as well as how to stand and what gestures to give when reciting your poem.

Round One of the English and Urdu Elocution was held in the classes as an Intra Class Competition. All the students of the class prepared a poem and recited it in front of the class and a judge. They were marked for their performance. Four house wise participants were selected from each class based on their high scores to be a part of the Final Round of Inter House Elocution 2016-2017.

LIBRARY TO LEARNING CENTRE/ PTM Gulshan Primary Campus has always welcomed the parents. An exciting event was organized nd on 22 October, 2016 where the whole campus was transformed into an amazing platform where different interactive sessions were organized. This provided them with an opportunity to explore how their children learn at school through different activities. This event was not only a learning opportunity for the guests, it also provided them with an opportunity to meet teachers and to discuss their child's progress. A Parent Teacher Meeting was also arranged in different time slots.

OATH TAKING CEREMONY After the election results were announced, an Oath Taking Ceremony was held at GPC. The newly elected council members were honoured with their sashes.

They also took a pledge to uphold the dignity of their sash by performing their duty vigilantly. Council Members were elected on several positions including Head Boy, Head Girl, Deputy Heads, Senior Prefects, and Prefects. An Anti-Bullying Squad was also elected in order to ensure that our school becomes a bully free zone. Dignity Ambassadors' job is to make sure that students, teachers, and staff respect each other. Eco Warriors were also elected from Class II. They are responsible for promoting a green environment by spreading awareness about our actions and how we are damaging our environment. Class Representatives were selected from each section of Class I. They represent their section and are a role model for the rest of the students in terms of their sense of duty and behavior. Furthermore, since sports is an epitome of fitness and an integral part of BSS curriculum, Sports Captains and Vice Captains were also elected.

News & Events ROALD DAHL'S 100th BIRTHDAY Roald Dahl's 100th birthday was celebrated at Gulshan Primary Campus to honour the world’s renowned author for his tireless efforts in the field of children's literature. Different activities were carried out throughout the school by each level. The students of Class I made colourful birthday cards, Class II prepared bookmarks, Class III shared famous quotes, Class IV watched a documentary about the author and attempted a quiz, Class V prepared posters, and Class VI performed role plays based on his famous books and characters.

SG II - INTER BRANCH ENGLISH DEBATE COMPETITION 2016-2017 Debate develops a child's analytical thinking, persuasive speaking, speed reading, and in-depth research. Debate does not only teach a person how to win an . argument, but also instructs the person for a great amount of life skills.

Aisha Jamali of VI G, who also secured the first position, shared her experience with us, “It was a thrilling experience for me to face such a big crowd but I also really enjoyed presenting my argument. I am very glad I got a chance to represent GPC on such a big platform.”

EXCURSIONS The aim of excursions is to amplify students' learning experience.

The little adventurers of Class I went to Metro store on their field trip which was integrated with their English reader, My Mum is Lost.

They were informed about which trusted outsiders they can go to for help in case they are ever lost. The students of Class II visited PIA Planetarium. Our young science-lovers were energized and delighted with the chance of watching a documentary on the solar system as it was integrated with their science lesson, The Earth and Beyond. The students of Class IV visited the MET office which was integrated with their Social Studies topic Weather. The students of Class V were taken to the 6th International Film Festival at Ocean Mall Karachi where they watched unique yet educational films.
