As we approach the end of December, we can look back on a very successful term. Students have been involved in a wide range of events and activities and we have had the pleasure welcoming parents regularly in the school. Below is a peek into the teaching and learning happening in School. Back to School: August was a most wonderful month, when we welcomed students back to school and made all arrangements to comfort the new members of school. School started with heaps of excitement, happiness laughter and cries‌‌
Independence Day celebrations on 12th August: Celebrated with great fervor and fun. A series of patriotic songs were sung by the students. Wonderful dance performance on national songs were performed by the students of Grade One. Children cheered and their faces reflected their happiness and excitement. They stood like young soldiers waving their flags all dressed in vibrant green and white.
Breakfast morning- Bubbles: This was arranged to reinforce the concept of sleeping early at night and the importance of a good healthy breakfast. The toddlers came to school dressed in their night suits and experienced night time activities in their classroom like star gazing, bedtime stories etc. Later they were joined by their mothers and were treated to a healthy and wholesome early morning breakfast in a wonderful restaurant setting. They were provided with a menu and, along with their mothers, chose their meal.
KGS and Nurseries also experienced night time activities: To reinforce concepts according to their theme, ‘Starry Nights’.
Defence Day: 6th September was celebrated at KG 1 PECHS to pay rich tributes to the martyrs of the Country. Students spoke about their sacrifices and also advised their friends to be wise and brave. The presentation concluded on the famous national song “Aye watan ky sajeelay jawano� performed energetically by students of Grade 1.
Global Dignity Day: Global Dignity day was celebrated at Beaconhouse KG 1 PECHS with great enthusiasm. There were many speeches focusing on the issue of respecting others, helping friends and using courtesy words. A guest speaker wass invited to tell a short story of dignity to class One students. A poster competition was held where students along with their mothers created posters to share and spread the message of dignity. The best ones were awarded certificates. The domestic staff’s role was appreciated by presenting them with baskets filled with chocolates, candies and flowers for taking good care of their school and students. Circle time at all levels was utilized to inform them about the importance of respecting and sharing. Students also cheered the junior staff in their sports/games competition.
HappyBirthday Beaconhouse! Beaconhouse School’s 41st birthday was celebrated with great enthusiasm on 4th November 2016. Children arrived happily bringing beautiful cards and birthday notes from parents. Children came on stage and spoke about their feelings about studying at Beaconhouse. An interactive morning assembly was held in which students sang songs. We also invited some of our BSS parent alumni who spoke about their learning experience at BSS and shared happy moments. A cake cutting ceremony was also held.
Grandmother’s Day, Yellow Day and Breakfast Morning- Pre-Nurseries “Grandparents make the world softer, kinder, warmer and even brighter”. To strengthen this bond, the pre-nurseries welcomed their grandmothers on “yellow day”. The environment was adorned with yellow balloons and buntings and the little children looked adorable dressed in yellow. The grandchildren enjoyed a scrumptious breakfast along with their grandmothers. Grandmas were transported into their school days as they coloured pictures and decorated photo frames. Grandmothers were overjoyed at receiving photographs in the photo frames to remind them always of this memorable day!
Clubs- KG: A new iniative was taken this year to engage our KG students in extra curricular activities and boost their confidence. Six clubs have been formed; speaking club, Urdu Role Play Club, English Role Play Club, Little Chefs and word building . This initiative has helped students collaborate and experience..
Literary Week: Striving always to instill a lifelong love of reading among our students, we organized a “literary week”. Parents were invited to experience different literary activities with their children. A new theme was followed each day and various reading activities were planned accordingly. The themes included ‘The Wonderful World of Animals’, ‘Tribute to Iqbal’, ‘Healthy Eating’, ‘Fairy Tales and Nursery Rhymes’ and ‘Colours Around Us’. The activities included storytelling, book reviews, book tasting, stage presentations, talking encyclopedias, book fair, art n craft, clay modeling, interactive online games etc. Parents were given handouts sharing tips on how to develop reading habits in their children. Thank you to those who donated
books for the garage school.
Paint the School Red - Pre Nurseries, Bubbles: Red is the most dynamic and passionate colour which symbolizes love and courage. In this regard our little Bubbles and Pre- Nurseries participated actively while celebrating Red Day. They enjoyed show and tell activity and took great pride in displaying their favourite red possessions .They also created luscious red cherries and lady bug crafts.
Skype Session: While learning about animals and their needs, our class one students had a Skype session with an animal caretaker. They asked a variety of questions regarding animals – their diet, tips for caring for pets, vaccinations, emotional needs etc. This helped them increase their knowledge and develop a sense of care for animals. KGs Project Culmination- Dinosaurs: Our KG students recently worked on a project on ‘Dinosaurs’ in which they learned about the different types of dinosaurs and their special features and amazing facts. They culminated their project, shared their learning, presented a role play of their core reader Little Rex and performed on a dinosaur song. A forest ambience was set up and creative props were used.
Interactive Morning Assemblies:A Series of morning assemblies were held by our Nursery students in the month of NovemberNsy A: They represented farm animals by singing "Old Mac Donald had a farm"; the students said a few lines about life in a farm, the entire class participated which is of tremendous help in boosting their confidence. Nsy B: Their presentation was on "Ten Little Indians"; and enthusiastic performance by the boys who in the sequence of 1-10 and the rest of the class was in choir. Nsy C:They presented the importance of eating fruits for keeping healthy. Nsy D: "Aaloo Miyan", the students were characterized as vegetables; it was very informative as students shared their views about the health benefits of vegetables and reinforced this with a song. Nsy E: Students walked the ramp as community helpers as they spoke about their characters and dressed in their attires. Later they sang and danced on the professions song.
Dodge the Ball and Tug of War Competition: We had an in house "Dodge the ball" and ‘Tug of War’ competition for our Grade 1 students on 5th October 2016. All the five sections were grouped into colour houses, everyone participated, the semi final was held between the red house and the yellow house. The red house won the tournament. The Blue house won the final of the tug of war competition.
Phonic Workshops: A workshop was arranged at KG 1 PECHS for mothers to familiarize them with teaching students to read through phonics. Samples of students work were also shared by presenting through multimedia. Various suggestions were also given to parents regarding different ways to help and support their children at home. Importance of reading was also discussed and parents were urged to have reading sessions daily with their children.
Annual Sports: Sports at KG 1 PECHS was celebrated with great enthusiasm. In accordance with our theme “Colours Around Us� the environment was decorated by colourful butterflies, kites, flowers, hot air balloons, rainbows etc. The events included a splendid Taekwondo, Gymnastics, Aerobics and PE display and a variety of races. Other physical skills were also displayed. The sports day was a great opportunity for parents and children to enjoy a healthy and active day away from the daily classroom routine. It gave students a chance to test and try out their physical development skills. Although students understood the importance of motivation through competition, yet they were overjoyed that each of them had a cup to take home!
