So a happy and busy year draws to a close successfully by the grace of Almighty ALLAH. We have had a great start of the year by moving into the new spacious building which is fully equipped with the facilities of better infrastructure and latest technology for effective student learning. This whole year has provided the students an excellent range of opportunities to explore their talents and to polish their abilities. They have performed remarkably well to develop academically and socially which you have witnessed and we share with you proudly through this newsletter containing a wholesome of campus life. Parental engagement in school had been a major focus this year for effective communication between school ,parents and teachers through multiple meetings, orientations and extra curricular activities. I would like to thank all our parents whose constant support and reflective feedback have enabled us to improve upon practices and deliver what is committed. I take this opportunity to inform you that the school library will remain open throughout the summer break from Monday to Thursday between 10:00 am to 12:00noon for students ,parents and teachers alike. The school encourages you to utilize this opportunity & make reading a family activity to enhance the imagination ,creativity and expression of your child. The summer vacation homework aims at reinforcing the taught concepts. It should be submitted between 17th and 19th August from 10:00am to 12:00 noon at the school office. Together we look forward to the summer break to relax, enjoy and have fun but it goes without saying that healthy routine for exercise, sports, reading and writing will energize your child mentally and physically. Parents Exploring the New Campus Parents from Pre-Nursery to grade III were given the opportunity to explore the new campus of BSS. They enjoyed the first hand experience to have a glimpse of the real on-going classroom activities in the classrooms. Young Kangaroo Mathematicians The International Kangaroo Mathematics Contest is organised annually to enhance mathematical thinking skills and kindle interest among the students in Math. The young mathematicians of BSS Mirpur participated in the world’s largest mathematical event in April 2014. Dawood Asghar of Class II Blue brought laurels to the school by achieving silver medal in the contest. Ana Khan class II bagged 2nd Position at Regional level. Congratulation Young Mathematicians! Certificate distribution ceremony was held on 27th October, 2014.

Parent Teacher Conference

The overwhelming key to child’s success is planned involvement of parent. The first parent teacher conference was held at BSS Mirpur to complete the triangle to accelerate the learning process. The parents and teacher mutually refine the learning process; the parents conferred their wards progress over the academic session to their respective teachers. This is also an ideal time to garner parents' opinions and their feedback is always welcomed. A large number of parents attended the meeting. This reflects the will and readiness of the parents to work in close liaison with school.

Orientation Session (Early Years - XIC)

Iqbaliaat The BSS Mirpur celebrated Iqbal Day on November 11, 2014 to pay tribute to the ‘Poet of the East’. Class VI & VII students mesmerized the audience with their Mime performance on the poem ‘Maa ka Khawab’. Other students shared speeches & his golden word whereas; Class III presented beautiful performances on his poems. Numerous students recited verses with English & Persian translations & a student also prepared a PPT about facts of his life.

Parents of the students from Early years – XIC were invited for an Orientation session which was being conducted by the staff of BSS Mirpur on October 21st , and 22nd 2014, to answer their queries regarding curriculum, assessments, marking criteria and End of year examination. Parents of Early Years were orientated about the ELE( Enhanced Learning Environment) which is recently being introduced in Beaconhouse School System Mirpur. Parents of the students from grade VI to XIC were orientated regarding the system and O Levels teaching Methodologies and Require2 ments. Page 2 of 12

Beaconhouse School System has always welcomed new ideas to augment creativity in students and Urdu Story Telling is another footstep towards the cause. For the first time, “KAHANI GOEE” is being conducted at SG level. Students at BSS Mirpur have gone through rounds of selection before finally being nominated to represent school at Inter–school level in Northern Region. 6 students, selected in the second round, performed at school level in front of their parents and students. A rubric was followed to judge their performances and three out of six were finally selected to represent BSSMP at Inter-School Level. A total of 26 students had participated in the contest including schools from Islamabad, Rawalpindi , Mandi, Gujrat and Jhelum on 18th Nov 2014 at Beaconhouse Civil Lines Rawalpindi. Abdullah Tariq, Fatima Muddassir and Fatima Javed from V- Blue represented Mirpur Branch in the story telling contest. Fatima Javed brought laurels to the school by grabbing certificate of appreciation. Thumbs up!

Coffee Evening with Movie By the end of the November after a range of untiring academic activities, a coffee evening along with the movie on multimedia was planned for the students of Class VIII and O Levels .Students were fervent about the movie and they thoroughly enjoyed the evening.

Red & Orange Day Early Years

Interschool Debate Competition

Early years celebrated colour day. Children have fun and frolic with red and orange colours. Children were in red and orange dresses and had toys with respective colours.

Students of Class VI and VII participated in Letter Writing Competition. The purpose of this competition was to enhance students’ creative writing skills. Creative writing is a fun and enjoyable way for kids to practice their grammar and punctuation. This activity also helps to develop their social skills.

BSS Khariyaan invited BSS Mirpur, BSS MBD,BSS Jehlum, BSS Gujrat ,The City School Khaariyaan, APS Khaariyaan to participate in a Debate competition over the topic of "Equal opportunities in a society, only a dream". Students were required to speak "FOR" and "AGAINST" the topic. Abeer Sajjad from class VII and Sidra Tahir from class VIII participated from BSS Mirpur speaking in favour and against the topic respectively.Both the brilliant girls gave tough time to all the other participants.We are proud of both the participants. Sidra Tahir achieved fourth position overall.

A very interesting and thought provoking activity "People who help us" was organised by BSS Mirpur on Friday 31st November 2014, for the bright stars of Early Years. Students were asked to dress up like the specific professionals or the people who help us in everyday life and are a true essence of life. Students developed awareness about these professionals by role play activity that how these people help us in daily life.

Early Years English Speech Competition

Beaconhouse School System rejoiced success of its students in Graduation Ceremony of O levels here at Mirpur. Asma Javed was among the shining stars scoring 3A* ,4 A and 1 B. We celebrate English Speech Competition of kindergarten on Monday 8th December, 2014. Parents were invited to join the event. Three early years teachers were there to judge the students through specific criteria... confidence, content and sentences (5-7) limit. All the students were confident. Costume Party /Puppet Show Ms. Judy, the puppet, welcomed students of BSS Mirpur in an exhilarating puppet show. This interactive puppet show was specially planned and executed by the teachers for entrainment of the students. Ms. Judy highlighted the importance of spelling and correct English pronunciation. Urdu puppet show emphasized importance of Healthy Food over Junk food. Students thoroughly enjoyed the hilarious show. Puppet show was integrated with a Costume Party. Children garbed as different characters added color and excitement to the event. They also shared information about their character.

Sports Venture Beaconhouse Northern Region organized an Intra-Regional Cricket & Football Tournament to promote Sports activity. BSS Mirpur team had the brilliant players of Classes VII –O Level students who played some memorable matches with zeal and zest.BSS Mirpur team played Cricket and Football matches which provided them an opportunity to boost their confidence and sportsman spirit.The Tournaments commenced on all the participating teams were highlymotivated and played energet4 ically. Sporty Spirit - Football and Cricket Matches Boys of classes VI - O levels relished Sporty Spirit on 12th & 13th February, 2015. The two days odyssey brought arch rivals Iqbal House Team & Jinnah House team face to face in Foot ball & Cricket Matches. Football Matches: Iqbal Jr Vs Jinnah Jr Iqbal Sr Vs Jinnah Sr The winner teams competed against each other, Iqbal Jr had a thrilling final against Jinnah Sr, where Iqbal Jr had an overwhelming victory of two goals.

Plantation Week Early Years Early years celebrated two weeks of plantation activity from 16th Feb to 27th Feb, 2015. Students planted seeds and observed the growth of their plants along with their friends and teachers.

Orientation for Matric Program BSS Mirpur has arranged an orientation meeting on 2nd April, 2015 to introduce the ‘Matric Stream’ in Mirpur Campus. Mam Nezafat Malik conducted the session and briefed students and parents about the Matric Program and the difference

Mothers Day A special evening was organised to pay tribute to the mothers where busy mothers were involved in different activities to get relaxed and to feel free from all the worries of life. Mothers thoroughly enjoyed the evening and enthusiastically participated in the activities.

Students from class VI - O levels enjoyed Crazy Hair & funky hats day on 4th February 2015.They came with their funky n crazy hair do and presented their creativity through them. They walked on the ramp and presented their hair styles and hats. All of them had a tough competition but few of them stole the show and were selected as the winners.

Pakistan Day Celebrations Pakistan Zindabad , Pakistan Paindabad BSS Mirpur celebrated Pakistan Resolution Day with extreme passion and patriotism. Their zeal and enthusiasm was evident when the grounds chorused with blood rushing national songs like “Dil dil Pakistan”, “Jug Jug Jiyey Mera Pyara Watan” and “ Jazba-e - Janoon”. Students shared their views on how they want to carry the legacy left by Quaid-e- Azam and make Pakistan a thriving 5 country in every aspect. Page 5 of 12

A glimpse at Competitions Intra Group Online Activities/ Competitions As they say, where there is a will there’s a way. So to provide opportunities to our talented Beaconites to interact, compete and excel in a safe and secure environment, BSS SGO2 has taken initiative of first ever online activities/Competitions on each level like: Picture reading saga, sing a song, writing a different ending, graphic competition, Bitstips comic competition, Prezi ) Students of BSS Participated in all the competitions and brought glory to the branch by achieving shields at each level. Well done Students. Keep it up!

Adding another feather in our cap,our students (Ainass Irfan V Blue, Fatima Javed V Blue, Zohair Hussain)of V Yellow of grabbed 2nd Position in this competition.

3. Bitstrips Comic Competition Students of Class III (Amina Zulfiqar, Isra Omer and Minal Faisal) were asked to design a comic on a topic of “Visit to a mysterious land” and Class IV (Maha Mubashir, Mehreen Khalid and Elishba Asjad) on topic "An inventor builds a robot but the robot starts doing things it is not supposed to do.” Students had a skype session with BSS GUJRAT to view their working experience as well. It was a group activity and the brilliant group of Class III achieved 3rd Position.

Intra School Graphic Competition of Class I & II Students of Class I (Ayesha Mubashir & Afnan Haider) and Class II (Syed Qasim Hassan Rizvi & Maira Fahim) participated in "Intra Group Online Graphic Competition" on 31st March, 2015 hosted by BKI I-8. Students were given a theme to create a graphical scene. Theme for Class I was ‘Forest’ and for Class II ‘Town’.A Skype session was arranged with HSPR to observe transparency in the contest.Our brilliant students of Class II stole the show by bagging 1st position in this competition.

Green living Competition: To create the awareness regarding green life and environment, Green Living Association arranged a competition as a part of the campaign, Collective Action to Restore Environment. Abdullah Zulfiqar of IV- Yellow received a shield and a gift from Green Living Association.

Debate Competitions Secondary (Englidh) “The importance of public speaking is underestimated. With speaking you gain confidence and self-esteem — more than you could have ever imagined.” Beaconhouse Mirpur has provided an opportunity to the students to speak their souls over the topic” Teenagers should be allowed to have frequent hangouts” in Intra Class Debate Competition 2015 on Wednesday 29th April, 2015. International Kangaroo Linguistic Contest First time International Kangaroo linguistic Contest has been introduced in Mirpur Campus and it proved another feather in the cap as our branch has achieved four medals on Pakistan level, District level and Institutional level. Hamna Ashfaq III has achieved a Silver Medal at District level. Hammail Ashfaq IV has achieved a Gold Medal on Pakistan Level. Fatima Javed V Blue has achieved a Silver Medal on District Level. Sidra Tahir VIII Blue has achieved a Bronze Medal on Institutional level5.

Don’t be dismayed at goodbyes. A farewell is necessary before you can meet again. And meeting again, after moments or lifetime, is certain for those who are friends. ~Richard Bach Decent Dudes of XI C have been given a farewell party on 17th April, 2015 by XC boys. Previously shared moments and experiences of XI C at BSS Mirpur were cherished together in a gathering. XC dudes' lively musical performance and an amusing role play added colors to the party. The heart touching speech of XI boys and the tribute paid to worthy teachers made everyone emotional. Titles were given to the guests of XI C and hosts of XC by the boys. Multimedia presentation based on the golden moments of XIC boys journey at BSS Mirpur marked the end of the party leaving the students' eyes filled with tears.

BSS always believes in appreciation and honoring efforts of its faculty members. Keeping this tradition alive, Ms Farah Mehmood was recognized for her perseverance in effective teaching and academic performance for the year 2015 in a ceremony held on 4th May, 2015.

Healthy Breakfast Day Healthy Breakfast Day was celebrated to create awareness among the little kids about the importance of breakfast in their lives.Mothers of the students from Class Pre-Nur to III were invited to take part in healthy breakfast making activity and enjoyed the breakfast with their children at BSS Mirpur.

Recycling Day with Fathers REUSE, REDUCE, RECYCLE! A Creative opportunity has been provided by BSS Mirpur on 18th March, 2015 to the artistic fathers of Beaconhouse for celebrating ‘A Recycle Day.’ Class Pre Nursery to V participated in the activity in which fathers were invited to work as a team with their children.Fathers brought marvelous ideas about recycling and helped their kids to create the wonderful projects. Students were quite excited to share their experience and present their ideas in front of the audience!

The Meal Day’ with ‘The Talented Chefs’ of BSS Mirpur "Let's share a happy, hearty brunch with our marvellous mothers. "This was the agenda of celebrating HAPPY MEAL DAY at BSS MIRPUR. Students of grade IV – XI C invited their mothers to share the experience of different cuisines prepared by them. Ambiance of a restaurant was created to give a feel of fine dining. Students delved enthusiastically in the responsibilities assigned to them as chefs and managerial staff. All in all, the activity not only provided fun and frolic, it also induced the sense of responsibility and seriousness in completion of an assigned task.

Library Week During the library week, the following activities have been held to uplift creative reading and comprehension skills in our students. Book reviews: students were given colorful worksheets to record their reviews of the read book and also presented in Morning assemblies. Folder making: students created folders to maintain their reading Profiles. Morning assembly: students of class IV presented a morning assembly encompassing various genres of literature e.g. fiction, non-fiction, cuisine, science fiction etc. Read with me: parents of early years were invited to take part in enhancing their children’s reading skills. Parents read stories to their children and also issued books for them. Movie time: students were shown movies and asked to make comparison of the book vs. movies, through Venn diagram. Use of Dictionary/ Thesaurus: students were provided paragraph and asked to use thesaurus to make it more interesting. Extempore enactments: In the library periods, students were asked to present extempore enactments on any Urdu story.

The Beaconhouse Times: As part of Beaconhouse’s 40-year celebrations has announced the range of competitions in which students can utilize their talents and win exciting prizes. Many students participated in these competition and Fatima Ali of Class VII participated in the “Competition #3 – Look into the future!” and won a prize.

An orientation session was arranged by SG team to acquaint parents with BSS teaching strategies and class room practices. Classroom environment was simulated for Early years, languages, Math and Science.

Dignity for All Students from Class I - XIC celebrated Global dignity day with zeal & zest. They made badges for students and all staff members, designed interesting dignity day posters, shared their views about dignity and performed role plays as well.

Enchanting Eve BSS Mirpur organized Enchanting Eve, a plethora of activities under the clubs from IV-IXC on 9th April, 2015. The evening was turmoil of emotions the young actors brought the house down with the swashbuckling and epic presentations. English Literary Club Jr paid tribute to Fighter Pilot through a group performance on the song I am Alive, created a dream world of young girl to fly. The flawless performance won plaudits of the audience. Shakespearean ‘King Lear’, a tragic play about appearances can be deceptive adapted by English Literary Club Sr showcased the timeless theme of good versus evil. The theatrical performance, the depth of emotions, intonation left the audience awestruck. Urdu Literary Club exhibited an astounding presentation on ‘Adl-e-Jhangir’, portraying dealings in Jahangir’s courts. The story of the just King evoked Islamic values and practices.

Bright Beaconite Proud Pakistanis Beaconhouse organized an Open day on 10th April 2015. The event was open to everyone, demonstrating the Beaconhouse School System's strong commitment to community service and the advancement of education. The programme featured a range of performances for audience aimed at enhancing parental involvement in children's development and learning. The activities held on this day include: Role Play by class I topic (Saving Trees) P.T display by Class II boys Aerobic exercise by Class II girls Role play by class III (Karvan e Azadi about Partition of Sub continent) Melodious national song (I and class III students) A large number of families who attended the event created an atmosphere charged with the spirit of fun. Parents showed keen interest in the event and shared valuable feedback.

The Beaconhouse Enhanced Learning Environment (ELE) We are proud to introduce the Beaconhouse Early Years Enhanced Learning Environment at a large number of schools in the Beaconhouse Northern Region. The key objective of this program is to use technology to enhance the delivery of the early years curriculum. As a fundamental part of the program, each classroom is equipped with Tablet PCs and Multimedia Projectors. The schools are also equipped with Digital Cameras, Scanners, Printers, Interactive White boards, and a host of other technology to help children explore and learn in more meaningful ways than before. Technology has allowed us to give children the opportunity to explore, learn, and experiment in ways that were never possible before. They can now use specialized software to compose their own music, create custom animations, and capture digital images of the world around them to create vibrant multi media photo stories. Basic concepts such as mathematics, creative development, and Communication Language and literacy, are much easier to develop with the versatility provided using specialized software. The software provides immediate feedback to students and gives them assistance in acquiring these key concepts in a dynamic and exciting way. All classrooms are also air conditioned to provide a more comfortable learning environment to students. The Beaconhouse Academics team has specially selected software that will help enhance the learning experience of students and allow them to acquire basic concepts much more quickly than before. We invite you to join us in exploring this new world of early years education at Beaconhouse.  Please inform the school in writing if there is any change in your address or contact numbers.  Identity cards for all students are necessary and the person collecting your child must at all times carry the card therefore deposit two passport size photographs in school uniform with blue background if not done already.  All parents are requested to ensure on day 1, your child is wearing a simple name tag with his or her name, class and section only.  Books, notebooks and stationary items, lunch boxes and water bottles are clearly labeled.  Stationary items must be handed over to the class teachers only.  We continue with the summer timings and uniform when school reopens. Please drop and pick your children well in time in the morning and afternoon.  Admissions are open throughout for Pre-Nursery - O Levels.  Challan form for the month of August, September can be collected from the school office from mid of August, 2015.
