HM’s Note: Welcome to the first newsletter of the session 2013-14. I hope that the year 2013 was a fruitful and successful one for all of you. For BSS Mirpur, it was an eventful one, a year that buzzed with events aimed at increasing student engagement. Let me proudly share BSS Mirpur First Cambridge International Examination June, 2013 O’Level result with an overall GPA of 3.5. The students not only enjoyed academic activities but also participated in the extracurricular activities enthusiastically. A mix of these activities refines the entire persona of our students. O Level Result Hamza Ali and Awais Saleem scored 1 A*, 2As, 2Bs and 9Cs in the CIE O Level examination, June, 2013.
Honouring Soldiers Defence Day was celebrated on September 6 with a special assembly for all classes. Students gave performances, sang songs, told stories and delivered speeches – all based on the 1965 war.

Orientation The Early Years orientation meeting was held on September 18 for parents with an interactive question and answer session.
Dignity Day BSS Mirpur observed Global Dignity Day on October 8 with short plays, stage presentations, poster campaigns, speeches and art. Students highlighted the need to respect humans regardless of their race, colour, religion or culture.
Red Day The Early Years celebrated Red Colour Day on October 8. Children dressed in red brought red toys to class. Posters and hangings were displayed throughout the school and several activities based on the theme were organised.

Eid Milan Party An Eid Milan Party was arranged on October 25. Students dressed beautifully for the event and brought food items to share with their friends. They decorated their classrooms and participated in various activities.
Parent-Teacher Conference On November 6, the first Parent-Teacher meeting of the session 2013-14 was organised to discuss the progress of students with their parents.

School Election A Student Body Election was held on October 29 where students voted for their favourite candidates. Elections teach civic responsibility to students, especially to the candidates who are expected to campaign responsibly. Annual Graduation and Oath Taking Ceremony The first Annual Graduation and Oath Taking Ceremony was organised on November 7. Hamza Ali and Awais Saleem, the first graduates of Mirpur Campus, were awarded degrees and certificates. The teachers of XI-C were given certificates for their efforts. The new members of the Student Council were sworn in during an oath taking ceremony. School head Mrs Nezafat Malik briefed the council on their roles and responsibilities.

Creative Writing
Security Drills Security drills are conducted at BSS Mirpur to create awareness regarding safety and security. Fire drills, lockdown drills and evacuation drills are conducted to prepare students for every situation.

Arts and Crafts Competition Art encourages students to learn in different ways and approach problems and challenges creatively. An arts and crafts event was organised by BSTR-P for Primary students in Rawalpindi on November 19. Students from BSS Mirpur participated and created artwork on family, nature and wildlife. This year, four teachers from our branch attended a teacher’s training course at BSS Gujrat.
Bonfire Bonfire is an annual event at BSS Mirpur. On December 20, a bonfire was celebrated with exciting activities including songs, dramatic performances and impersonations.

Induction Course The Induction Course is especially designed to provide guidance and training to the new staff. This year, BSS Mirpur conducted the course and teachers from other branches, including Mandibahauddin and Gujrat participated .

Sanati Maila Students of Class IV and V arranged a 'Sanati Maila' related to their Urdu curriculum at BSS. They wore beautiful cultural dresses and brought different cultural item to depict cultural of different provinces of Pakistan.
Tribute to Teachers To pay tribute to their teachers, Class XI students conducted a special assembly on December 2. They presented a short play in the assembly and gave bouquets and handmade cards to their teachers.
Important Parents are requested to ensure Punctuality and regularity of the child. That child wears proper uniform. Only blue caps, scarfs, gloves and hair bands are allowed. Submitting a written application to the head if the child misses school. That home made lunch is sent for the child. Do not give money to students of Early years and classes I & II. That your child’s bag is checked occasionally for any unwanted material. That school office is immediately informed in the case of change in contact information. Taking prior appointment to meet the Head or concerned teachers.
