What the individual can do to help protect the environment (Winning Essay of the Inter house essay competition) An individual can help protect the environment all he/she has to do is try. There are many ways to do so for example, convincing other people not to litter , ban smoking and recycle more often. An individual has to be prepared and know what he/she has to do. First, go to a nearby place and convince people not to smoke or litter. Start a recycling program , if we recycle then a bunch of trees will be saved. Then tell them not to throw junk in the seas because fish will get sick and die and fish-eating birds will have nothing to eat and will starve to death. Pollution has a major, hazardous effect on nature. Second of all an individual has to spread his/her ideas, by this everyone in the world would know what he/she is doing and join in. But there would one more thing that would have to be stopped, factories. A factory produces more smoke than anything on Earth. Factories cause air pollution which is harmful for us and birds. But if you stop a factory than we wont get products like toys and artificial food. One more thing that causes air pollution are cars. An individual can encourage people in a neighbourhood that if they work at the same place then use only one car to work. This will cause less pollution and less traffic jam. Golf courses get so much water that they leave other places dry. More places dry means more dried out plant which means less oxygen and less food for animals. Also over-fishing causes less pollution of fishes. which means less fish for other places and more fish for others. In conclusion an individual an help protect the environment by convincing people not to over-fish, not to litter in the ocean or on land, and not to smoke. by Azm Waseem Class VI
