Bake for another 10 to 15 minutes, stir and spray with the cooking oil spray. Bake for an additional 10 to 15 minutes as needed or until lightly browned, being careful not to burn them.

6. Remove from the oven and sprinkle with salt. The seeds will become crisper as they cool. Shell the seeds, or for more fiber, eat them whole.

Pumpkins are one of the highpoints of the fall harvest. The fruit originated in Central America. Pumpkins — like cantaloupes, cucumbers and squash — belong to the Cucurbitaceae, or gourd family. Most of the pumpkins that are grown in the United States come from Illinois and become available in October.

The flat, dark-green pumpkin seeds, or pepitas as they are often called, are covered with a yellow-white husk. Pepitas are a key ingredient in Mexican recipes and are often used in the cuisines of many other cultures.

Remember who ran for president and vice president against Ronald Reagan and George H.W. Bush in 1984? Sitting around our dinner table, it took a while for my kids to answer. In fact, they were stumped. (Thank you, Siri and Google.) Answer: Walter Mondale with Geraldine Ferraro.

How quickly we forget those who ran the high-profile race for the White House but didn't make it.

My friend Dr. David Parkyn, president of North Park University in Chicago, invites guests to peruse a hallway gallery in his home, filled with framed campaign buttons going back a half a century of candidates who won their party's endorsement, but went on to lose the campaign.

According to Parkyn, coming in second place for the presidency is quite an accomplishment. "How many people can say in life that they came in second place for the highest office in the land?" he adds.

My visit to his captivating bipartisan collection made me realize how important it is to talk to kids about winning and losing. With this election season coming to a close, it's an opportune time to have a conversation about trying and losing, for there will be more people who lose their bids for elected office than win at the ballot box. Understanding that losing isn't the end-all is an important life lesson.

Here are five ideas on how to relate with kids about winning, losing and perseverance.

1. Let's start with the world of sports.

It is a typical Saturday morning at Fantastic Sam’s in Coventry and the salon is already bustling with mask-wearing clients. Busy at their own stations are Donna Ruggieri and Liz Klos, two stylists who have returned to Fantastic Sam’s after short hiatus’s. With opposing schedules, these two talented professionals are only seen together at the salon on Saturdays, but when they are together, there is an special energy here.

The close-knit team at Fantastic Sam’s is thrilled to welcome both Donna and Liz back to their ranks. Both gals have devoted their careers to making others look and feel their best, and their passion for cutting and coloring hair is evident with each snip of their

scissors. The other stylists at this popular destination feel the buzz that they bring back to the salon, and their presence has given the business a whole new infusion of life.

Donna Ruggieri has been a hair stylist for thirty years, though her professional interests extend beyond the salon chair.

When she is not fussing over her clients at Fantastic Sam’s, she is lovingly tending to her Hospice Care clients.

Her work as a hospice worker has given her a rare compassion and talent for caring for others and meeting their specific needs.

Although antique dealers tell us early 1900s oak furniture doesn’t sell — average Chippendale pieces are not wanted and fancy French designs of the past are out of style — some average examples and even good copies can be useful and a good investment.

In 1899, Wallace Nutting started photographing, hand-coloring and selling scenes that had a “Colonial� look. He bought and borrowed the furniture and accessories, and sold thousands of the pictures. There were some historic flaws in the pictures, like hooked rugs in front of the fireplace in an early 1700s scene. Eventually, he started to make and sell accurate copies of his furniture. Today, there are collectors of Wallace Nutting furniture as well as the photographs.

In the 1920s, Peter Hunt decided to paint early wooden furniture with the colorful peasant designs he developed.

It became popular as a style, and today, Peter Hunt furniture sells for more than the type of furniture he repainted. Costume jewelry also was made to look like expensive gold and gem-set originals. Nowadays, the best of signed costume jewelry can sell for thousands of dollars. A Wallace Nutting tavern table made in the early 20th century as a copy of an 18th-century table sold at a Garth’s auction for $469. *** We have the first two albums recorded by the Beatles in excellent condition. What is their value and how would we go about selling them?

These albums sell at auctions for over $1,000. Their value depends on rarity and condition. The first Beatles album released in the United States was “Introducing the Beatles,� by Vee-Jay Records on Jan. 10, 1964. Capitol Records released its first Beatles album, “Meet The Beatles,� on Jan. 20, 1964. It released “The Beatles’ Second Album� on April 10, 1964. “Introducing the Beatles� was made with three different backs. The backs of the first covers were blank because

Will there be another season of “You� on Netflix? Are they going to turn him into a “Dexter� where he just continues his crimes season after season? — V.E. “You,� starring Penn Badgley as a stalker named Joe, premiered on the Lifetime network, but wasn’t a big ratings hit. It took off when season one re-aired on Netflix, and Netflix acquired the rights and developed season two, where a new woman named Love (Victoria Pedretti) became Joe’s obsession.

I do see the similarity between “Dexter,� a Showtime series about a serial killer who outsmarted the law season after season, and Joe. Like Dexter, Joe has settled down with his girlfriend who is expecting a child, but domestic bliss isn’t likely to change his murderous ways.

Fans will be thrilled to learn that a third season of “You� is in the works.

You’ll often receive an email from the retailer saying your purchase has been shipped, and there might be a link in the email about that delivery.

Beware clicking it. It could be a scammer hoping to install malware on your computer to capture any future credit card or account numbers you type in.

Or they might ask you outright to type in personal information such as your name and credit card number.

Instead of clicking any link in any email supposedly from a retailer, go to the merchant’s website to look for information on your purchase or call them directly. Take the phone number from your bill or their website, not from any email.

You might also receive emails about items you didn’t order and worry that your account has been hacked. Again, that is one way for the scammers to get you to click a link. Don’t do it. Call the merchant instead.

Just ordering online isn’t the end of your steps to being safe. There are the porch pirates, those awful people who dash up to the house and steal packages right at the door. They often follow delivery trucks to see where the parcels are being left. Keep an eye out for your delivery. Or track it online.

A final warning: Merchants often ask you to download their app to make purchases. You don’t have to. You can still make online purchases without adding yet another potentially unsecure form of communication.
