EVENTS AT A GLANCE

Welcome to the Beacon

There really is something for everyone over the coming months at the Beacon, in a programme that’s bursting with music, drama, comedy, dance and meet and greets, and not forgetting classes and workshops for all ages, constantly changing art exhibitions and of course our beautiful café with its panoramic river and mountain views.

Two of Scotland’s National Performing Companies, the National Theatre of Scotland and the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, will be visiting with the play Stand & Deliver: The Lee Jeans Sit-In and a Viennese Gala respectively, and there will also be high-profile performances from Bard in the Botanics (Medea), Flabbergast Theatre (Macbeth) and Theatre School of Scotland (The Addams Family). The Beacon proudly presents two in association with productions in the same week! The riotous Scots: The Musical with Raw Material and Sailmaker, Ayr Gaiety's play about family, grief and identity in working-class Glasgow.

Starry visitors from outwith Scotland include Strictly’s strictest judge Craig Revel Horwood, 1970s folk rock band Lindisfarne, the multitalented Toyah, and Irish folk band The Fureys on their Farewell Tour. But we have plenty of home-grown top talent too, with comedians Gregor Fisher, Phil Kay, Jack Docherty and our very own panto queen Jane McCarry leading the way.

Indie Inverclyde continues to promote both established and upcoming local bands and singers, while the Beacon’s intimate Studio hosts some of the coolest jazz musicians around, including the talented young players of the Scottish National Jazz Orchestra.

Meanwhile, the main theatre hosts Cher, Take That, Michael Jackson, Fleetwood Mac, Billy Joel, Pink and Celine Dion – even Buddy Holly, Johnny Cash and Doris Day – all in tribute form! And if you’re looking for glitz and glamour, we have a spectacular evening of burlesque too.

Mountaineer Simon Yates will keep you on the edge of your seat with his tales of conquering some of the world’s highest peaks, and fans of the Old Firm will be able to relive their teams’ sporting summits with legends from both Celtic and Rangers.

There’s also a full programme of entertaining shows for kids and their families, including farmyard fun with The MacDougalls, an Enchanted Princess Ball, clowning with Out of the Box, magic from British Champion Oliver Tabor, an adaptation of David Walliams’ There’s a Snake in My School, the return of You Choose, and even The Ultimate Bubble Show!

Outside of the performance programme, we have free to browse exhibition on display yearround covering everything from textile, sculpture, paintings and more. Our classes cover dance, youth drama, art and more (see pages 47-48), with dedicated tutors on hand to help you explore something new.

We're very excited to host our first ever Beacon Book Festival in February (see pages 10-11), bringing together a mix of local and esteemed authors and writers for a weekend-long festival of talks, schools activities and in-depth conversations, with a few familiar faces in our programme too!

We hope you'll join us at Beacon Arts Centre across 2026 to celebrate all that's on offer.

In this classic tale of greed and guilt, Flabbergast’s Macbeth fuses a rigorous and respectful approach to text and storytelling to bring a magical, lucid interpretation of Shakespeare’s blood-soaked tragedy to life. The Bard’s original text is accompanied by exhilarating live music, creating a powerful soundscape and an atmosphere that both complements and juxtaposes the action. This interpretation of Shakespeare’s tragedy draws out the parallels with modern society, and at its heart the dominant recurring theme and fundamental narrative of the masculine fear of feminine power. Macbeth is as pertinent today as it has ever been.
