Welcome to 2024 at the Beacon Dear Patrons, We were delighted to welcome so many of you over Christmas to our panto Beauty and the Beast – keep your eyes peeled for next year’s extravaganza Jack and the Beanstalk. We look forward to sharing our 2024 programme, jam-packed with something for everyone! Our upcoming season promises a captivating blend of performances, exhibitions, a host of activities – not forgetting our café bar with the best views in Inverclyde. Experience the power of storytelling in its many forms. From gripping Scottish drama in This Is Where We Get Off and Sarah Hopfinger’s bold exploration into chronic pain experience in Pain and I, to light-hearted comedies, The Provy Wummin, Girls Night Oot, Dirty Dusting and SolveAlong-A-Murder-She-Wrote. Be prepared to laugh, cry, and reflect as the talented actors on our stages bring stories to life in ways that will linger in your thoughts long after the curtain falls. This season we have a fantastic array of comedians lined up to tickle your ribs in exciting new standups for 2024 including Caroline Rhea – I Identify as a Witch, Patrick Monahan: Exclusively!, The Scottish Comedians, Frankie Boyle: Lap of Shame and Jerry Sadowitz - Magician, Comedian, Psychopath. Just like in the old days, nostalgic moments are always welcome, and we’ve got a whole host of tribute shows to ignite memories of days gone by with all the hits from A to Ziggy in Bowie Experience, a world premiere of The Diana Ross Story, even a matinee for the kids in Pop Divas Live! As well as top-notch shows including Buddy Holly & The Cricketers, A Night of Eagles Music, The Chicago Blues Brothers and the music of Judy Garland and Liza Minnelli in Over the Rainbow. We’re delighted to welcome back the Royal Scottish National Orchestra playing Mozart, featuring horn player Felix Klieser and Scottish Front cover: An evening with James Cosmo | Wed 24 Apr. Opera with a new Opera Highlights tour for 2024. As if this wasn’t enough, well-kent faces will grace our stage in our audience with season – An evening with Games of Thrones star James Cosmo, Jack Docherty in David Bowie & Me: Parallel Lives, Gail Porter: Hung, Drawn & Portered and Sir Bradley Wiggins. There’s plenty to ignite the little ones' imaginations; from a Space Adventure with The McDougalls, to educational madness in Exciting Science (prepare to be amazed!), join Three Little Pigs in an oink-tastic musical, and enjoy spellbinding bubble tricks from Louis Pearl, in The Amazing Bubble Man, Julia Donaldsons Charlie Cook’s Favourite Book and so much more. Step into the world of visual discovery with our thought-provoking year-round exhibition programme that pushes the boundaries of creativity. This season our gallery space showcases a diverse range of visual art exhibitions including Grace Siregar, Graham Lister, Louise Carr and Jim Ramsey. All exhibitions are free to visit and are sure to challenge and inspire. But the Beacon is not just about performances; it's a hub of activities that cater to all tastes. Take part in Beacon Youth Theatre or a Dance for Parkinson’s class, explore the power of movement in Platinum Dance, or indulge in expressive arts with Creatability, for neurodiverse and/or disabled children and young people with additional support needs. Les McKeown’s former touring band performs the hits of the Bay City Rollers. The Legendaries are Scott McGowan, Phil Hendriks, Nick Gornall and Darren Lee, joined by Dave Major on keyboards. Scott was part of Les’ band for over 12 years. Phil joined Les McKeown’s Legendary 1970s Bay City Rollers as guitarist in 2011. Darren had frequently stepped in on drums before becoming a full-time member in 2019, as did bassist Nick, both firmly establishing themselves with two tours of Japan, a UK arena tour and the Canadian tour in 2020, which would sadly be Les’ last.

Join us for this high-energy, fast-paced tribute to the Queen of Country Pop, Shania Twain, with hits such as Man! I Feel Like a Woman!, From This Moment On, That Don’t Impress Me Much and Whose Bed Have Your Boots Been Under?

Our second half celebrates some of the greatest country stars of the nineties and noughties, including Garth Brooks, Faith Hill, The Chicks, LeAnn Rimes and Lady A, all backed by the Big Music City Band for an authentic Nashville vibe. Opera Highlights Sun 11 Feb | 7:30pm Standard/£18 Under 26s/£6 Scottish Opera visits the Beacon with this original piano-accompanied production. Director Laura Attridge brings her signature storytelling to the staging and, alongside designer Ana Inés Jabares-Pita, creates an unforgettable experience for opera lovers and newbies alike. Flinging four singers and a pianist into the oh-so-familiar setting of a wedding reception, they explore the highs and lows of love in opera. The programme includes music from the likes of Mozart, Verdi and Tchaikovsky, as well as a world premiere by Toby Hession.

Discover a vibrant world of performance and theatre in our Young Company! Saturdays from 3pm | Ages 13-18 Immerse yourself in focused and intensive classes that explore various approaches, techniques, and theories. Collaborate with fellow enthusiasts to craft innovative shows, performed in our very own theatre. Our commitment to professional standards is paired with a warm and supportive rehearsal atmosphere. As members, you'll have the opportunity to engage in thrilling projects with visiting professionals (previous artists include Surge, Scottish Youth Theatre, Magic Torch Comics, and the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and take part in the National Theatre Connections Festival for an enriching experience!

Creatability Creatability offers a unique mix of expressive arts for neurodiverse and/or disabled children and young people with additional needs aged four to 21 years old

Tuesdays from 5pm | FREE (Advanced booking required) Sessions create a safe and friendly atmosphere for children and young people to channel and express their creativity, encouraging a supportive atmosphere among peers, while building skills in theatre performance, rhythm and sound, visual arts and everyone’s favourite… aerial dance! All activities are free to take part in thanks to funding from Creative Scotland Youth Arts Access Fund, Youth Music Initiative and The Foyle Foundation and the Weston Culture Fund.

Information How to get here Beacon Arts Centre is situated on Custom House Quay, opposite the Custom House, and is within easy reach of Greenock town centre and close to all public transport links. BY ROAD Beacon Arts Centre is off the A8 behind Greenock Police Station. Turn into Brymner Street at the Police Station and then right into Custom House Place. We have free customer parking to the rear of the building and to the left of the building in front of the Custom House. BY TRAIN Greenock Central railway station is 500 metres away up a slight gradient, with a frequent service on the Glasgow Central/ Gourock line. Journey times from Glasgow are approximately 30 or 40 minutes and services run until 11pm (an hour earlier on Sundays). Check scotrail.co.uk for up-to-date timetables.

TRANSFER SEATS We understand that some of our customers may wish to transfer into a seat. Please advise Box Office if you will be transferring into a seat for the performance and our FOH staff will be happy to store your chair for you until required.

By joining the scheme and booking concession tickets you agree that the ticket (s) will only be used by a disabled person (as defined by the Equality Act 2010) and their essential carer. Customers who intentionally give false information will be removed from the register.

GALLERY SPACES AND CAFÉ All other visitor spaces are fully accessible to all. Guide, hearing and other working dogs are welcome in all parts of the theatre. Please advise when booking if your dog will remain with you during the performance. There are separate, accessible toilet facilities located at each of the principal seating levels. Our venue has an induction loop with staff fully trained to help. Disabled parking spaces are situated to the front of our main door.
