Shining a light on art at the Beacon

Exhibitions

At Beacon Arts Centre we host a constantly changing programme of inspiring and thought-provoking exhibitions in our light and airy upstairs gallery space. Guest Curator Fraser Taylor presents a year-round programme by local, national and international artists – some exclusive to the Beacon.

The Artists & Craftsmen of Inverclyde / The Liturgy of the Moons by Garth Ivan 11 Jan - 15 Feb 2025

Garth Ivan’s solo show at the Beacon is broken into two halves: The Artists & Craftsmen of Inverclyde - a photographic portrait series of the wide-ranging creative talent found here, and The Liturgy of the Moons - a large scale photo project merging fashion and celestial mythology…

The Artists & Craftsmen of Inverclyde focuses on capturing dear friends, studio mates, and people Garth admires who were willing to trust him and step in front of the camera in an effort to try and offer a glimpse into the wide-ranging talent that exists here.

The Liturgy of The Moons started out as a small poem - imagining the moons of the solar system as royalty locked in a grand ballroom for aeons, with no where to go, and nothing to do but dance and gossip…. In it is everything Garth loves about photography… the fantastic and the mysterious, fashion and form, invitation and rejection.

The Lover by Lilian Evans 22 Feb - 29 Mar 2025

Lilian Evans’ transdisciplinary practice is a sensual exploration into the expanded field of painting, confronting the medium which she finds herself monotonously committed to. Through the physical manipulation of waste materials, she constructs largescale draped formations which interrogate and penetrate the medium. The process of making, and the works’ themselves, are characterised by the love, lust and longing she feels for her materials. Thus this exhibition presents her as she is - the lover.

Support Us

Our mission is to 'light up lives through the arts' in Inverclyde. The important role that we play in Inverclyde is recognised by Inverclyde Council and by Creative Scotland, both of which provide generous support. However, the majority of our income is generated by our own activities: ticket sales, commercial hires and, importantly, fundraising.

Without the support we receive from people like you, the Beacon would be unable to present the rich programme of performances, the exhibitions and the wide range of participatory arts that we offer to communities throughout Inverclyde.

How can I help?

The Beacon was founded in 1946 in memory of those who had died during World War II. Our poignant beginnings continue to inspire our programming and we remain determined that ensuring that we make theatre, music, art and dance available to everyone in Inverclyde, whatever their circumstances.

We have created a several ways for you to be part of what we do. You can:

Volunteer | There are many ways in which volunteers provide support to the Beacon. These include supporting our Dance for Parkinson’s programme, playing the role of a Beacon ambassador in the community and supporting one-off events at the arts centre.

Support our “Pay It Forward” programme. By donating to this scheme, your gift supports subsidised access for adults and children to performances and participatory arts sessions as well as supporting the transportation to get there for those who otherwise would be unable to attend.

Sponsorship | There are a range of opportunities to sponsor a show at the Beacon. These focus on our homeproduced work, and particularly the annual pantomime that has become such an Inverclyde tradition. You’d be surprised by how affordable some of the sponsorship options are!

Join the Beacon’s Producers’ Circle

This is a special group of people whose donations support our annual programme. There is a series of benefits for those who choose to join this club. Leaving a legacy is another way of supporting the Beacon. Most donations of this kind contribute to the fund that we are building to provide the Beacon with a permanent endowment which will ensure that future generations can continue to benefit from Inverclyde’s treasured arts centre.

ACCESS REGISTER

Our scheme makes it easier to book the right seats for you and helps our staff deliver excellent and consistent service. It does this by only asking you once about your requirements to ensure a great visit. You can join easily by either filling out a form at Box Office or Online. Personal Assistant (essential carer) tickets are only available to those registered to the scheme; however, it is not a requirement to join the scheme in order to book tickets.

By joining the scheme and booking concession tickets you agree that the ticket(s) will only be used by a disabled person (as defined by the Equality Act 2010) and their essential carer. Customers who intentionally give false information will be removed from the register.

GROUPS

For certain performances, we offer one free ticket with every 10 purchased.

BOOKING FEE

We charge a £2.50 booking transaction fee online, in person and over the phone which goes towards our processing costs. All booking fees are subject to change as we develop our services. We charge £1.50 for postal delivery. We charge a 50p building restoration levy which goes towards maintaining our building.

FAMILY FRIENDLY

We are breastfeeding friendly. There are baby-changing facilities.

DISABILITY FRIENDLY
