August-December 2025
We hope our Autumn programme has lots to entice you, whether it be one of our fabulous shows and concerts, our classes and workshops for all ages, our ever-changing art exhibitions, or our relaxing café with those phenomenal views across the Clyde.
Drama is particularly prominent this season. Among many others, join us for plays on everything from a famous liner’s first (and only) voyage (The Man Who left the Titanic), the family ties that bind (Cobwebs), renowned playwright Douglas Maxwell’s meditation on companionship (Man’s Best Friend), a clutch of dramas set in Glasgow (About Two Tribes, Up a Close: Joanna’s Story, The Naked Neds) and wartime romance (Starts with a Letter) and stories of people in recovery (The Junkie Miracles) – and the tales of Para Handy and Dickens’ A Christmas Carol performed as 1950s radio plays.
Live music comes from Horse McDonald, Oscar and Simon from Ocean Colour Scene, Withered Hand and JJ Gilmour, the last two as part of Indie Inverclyde. Classical music aficonados can choose from the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, Dunedin Consort (in The Enchanted Snake for younger audiences), Puccini’s Tosca staged by Opera Bohemia and Crown Ballet’s performance of Tchaikovsky’s The Nutcracker There are tributes to Pink Floyd, Coldplay, The Beatles, The Eagles, Shania Twain, Taylor Swift and George Harrison, and whole evenings dedicated to the music of the ’60s, ’80s, disco and country. And don’t forget the intimate jazz sessions in the Beacon’s Studio.
Bruce Fummey (in his hilarious take on Scottish history), neurospicy Gary Meikle, YouTube sensation Stuart Mitchell, star of stage and screen Su Pollard and A Scottish Comedy Collective will have us all in stitches, and there are one-of-a-kind evenings with Psychic Sally and four Rangers Legends.
Kids and their families can look forward to visits from Dinosaur Adventure Live, Fireman Sam and Magic and Marvels with the multi-skilled Michael Jordan, and the Beacon continues to host some of Inverclyde’s fantastic local theatre companies – Greenock Players Youth Group present Into the Woods Jr and Greenock Light Opera Club perform Charlie and the Chocolate Factory: The Musical
We host a constantly changing programme of inspiring and thought-provoking exhibitions in our light and airy upstairs gallery space. Guest Curator Fraser Taylor presents a year-round programme by local, national and international artists – some exclusive to the Beacon. All exhibitions are FREE to enjoy, and our Cafe & Bar is a great meeting place for afterwards.
And last but by no means least, our fabulous in-house pantomime, Sleeping Beauty starring Jane McCarry, Mark Cox, Jimmy Chisholm, Lee Samuel and Shannon Swan. There is nothing quite like the joy of a pantomime and we are looking forward to welcoming you to Sleeping Beauty this festive season!

Some mothers bake. Some mothers craft. Some mothers quietly research Victorian infanticide while their toddler screams down the house. Anna is supposed to be writing a book. Instead, she’s spiralling – sleepdeprived, stretched thin and more than a little obsessed with the past. Stuck on a remote Scottish island with a husband who cares more about puffins than parenting, she’s just about holding it together. Until she and her son find something buried in the garden. Adapted by Shireen Mula from Sarah Moss’s novel, Night Waking is a thrilling deep dive into love, exhaustion and what happens when history refuses to stay buried.

On April 15 1912 the Titanic sank. Over 1500 people drowned. Some survived. One of those was Bruce Ismay, Chairman of the White Star Line, who stepped into a lifeboat and saved his own life. Was he a coward or merely human?
When the play ended the audience leaped to their feet with an unending round of applause... Outstanding and spellbounding. Titanic International Society.
This play has toured England, Scotland and Ireland for a number of years to enormous acclaim. www.isosceles.biz
