The excitement continues in July as the AVP Pro Beach Volleyball Tour returns to our iconic coastline, drawing elite athletes and beach lovers from around the globe. Then in late August, music fans can look forward to the New Blues Festival, a soulful celebration of live music, culture, and summer nights by the sea.

The Monastery of Montserrat, which houses the virgin that gives its name to the monastery, is also on the mountain. There’s a particularly steep tram ride that takes you to one of the highest points in all of Spain, offering breathtaking views of the Catalan countryside. Professional Baseball Returns to Long Beach
For the first time in more than a decade, professional baseball has returned to Long Beach, and fans throughout Southern California are embracing the excitement. The Long Beach Coast, the newest franchise in the Pioneer League, officially launched its inaugural season in 2026, bringing a fresh blend of professional baseball, family entertainment, and community pride to one of California’s most sportspassionate cities.
The arrival of the Coast represents much more than the introduction of a new team. It marks the return of professional baseball to a city with deep baseball roots. Long Beach has produced countless Major League players, hosted generations of youth baseball, and proudly supports the nationally recognized Long Beach State Dirtbags program. When the opportunity arose to bring a Pioneer League franchise to the city, local leaders and baseball enthusiasts recognized that Long Beach was a natural fit.
The Long Beach Coast competes in the Pioneer League, one of Major League Baseball’s official Partner Leagues. While the team is not affiliated with a specific Major League club, the level of competition is highly regarded, featuring talented players looking to advance their careers while entertaining fans with fast-paced, competitive baseball. The league includes teams throughout the western United States and provides an exciting summer schedule filled with home and road games.
The Coast plays its home games at historic Blair Field, one of Southern California’s most beloved baseball venues. Located adjacent to Recreation Park, the ballpark recently underwent nearly $1.5 million in improvements, including upgraded seating and lighting. The intimate setting allows fans to sit close to the action while enjoying beautiful summer evenings in Long Beach.
But the Coast is about more than baseball. Team ownership and management have worked hard to create a unique entertainment experience that reflects the personality of Long Beach itself. The organization has embraced the city’s culture, diversity, and creativity through themed nights, special promotions, music, community events, and family-friendly activities. The team even unveiled an alternate identity known as the “Long Beach
Regulators,” a playful tribute to the city’s rich hiphop heritage and one of its most famous musical ambassadors, Warren G.
Leading the Coast’s inaugural season is a familiar face to Southern California baseball fans: Troy Percival. A four-time Major League All-Star and member of the 2002 World Series Champion Anaheim Angels, Percival ranks among the most successful closers in Angel’s history with 358 career saves during his Major League career. After retiring as a player, he transitioned into coaching and player development, including serving as head coach at UC Riverside and managing in the Pioneer League before accepting the opportunity to lead Long Beach’s new franchise.
I sat down with Manager Troy Percival to get his thoughts on the team’s inaugural season.
What does it mean to you personally to be bringing back baseball to Long Beach?
For me, being a local Southern California resident, born and raised; to bring the first team into Long Beach I’m very excited about that and to get the opportunity to be a part of a league I’ve been in for two years. Hopefully we dominate, that’s what I’m looking for because that’s what long beach is all about–grinding things out, being tough, and winning.
Long Beach has such a rich baseball history and culture. What makes this community special from a baseball perspective?
Well, I think you can go all the way back to LB State. I’ve had to coach against them for years. Their fanbase is very dedicated and they support their team.
How has your playing experience shaped your approach as a
I like to think of myself as a player’s manager. Stern when I have to be, but I hope that’s only a few times a year. The game is meant to be played, enjoyed, and have fun. I try to get that atmosphere into my clubhouse not only by the guys I bring in but by the way I manage.
For fans who may not know enough about the Pioneer League, what kind of baseball experience can they expect this summer?
It’s a growing experience. Year by year it’s gotten better and better. The talent level now is far better than a college team. It’s closer to a double AA affiliated team. I think when you come out, you’re not going to see sloppy baseball. You’re going to come out and see high quality baseball and probably wonder why these kids are not in triple A somewhere.
Long Beach is known for its diversity, energy, and coastal lifestyle. How do you hope the team reflects the personality of that city?
Like I said, LB appears to be a blue-collar, hardnosed area and that’s the type of baseball I coach. I don’t care if there’s only one out left and you’re down seven; you will see guys fighting to get a victory.
The first regular season game is June 2nd. What kind of atmosphere are you hoping fans experience on opening night?
Well from what it sounds like, we’re going to have a very good fanbase, especially on opening night. So, I think we’re going to be electric out there and we’re going to have an opportunity to see high quality baseball. It’s more the energy our players are going to exude as opposed to going to a game and seeing guys going through the motions for nine innings. This team doesn’t do that.
Looking beyond this inaugural season, what are your hopes and visions for the Long Beach Coast Organization?
Well, I hope we’re setting a base for a long-term staple that’s going to be around for a long time. I think that only happens if we play a brand of baseball that the fans want to come and see. I think in any sport, if you’re not out there putting a product that people want to see, you lose your fanbase–and that’s why we play the game.
Reflecting on your own baseball journey, what continues to motivate and inspire you about the game today?
I think, for me, to continue to change with the game and see the differences, embrace the differences, yet still bring the old school mentality that I grew up with into it. It usually takes you three or four weeks before they start meshing, but when it does it’s pretty special.

It’s an El Nino year in sunny SoCal which means there’s a wildly wet and hot summer brewing. As Long Beach locals, we’re accustomed to a comfortable sunny and seventy-five, so it’s time we shift our focus from paying off our parking tickets to summertime sippers and where to find them. With tropical weather upon us, it only makes sense to submit to a rum focused forecast and bare the storm with velvety coconut cocktails. Whether you’re hiding from the blazing heat or want to take a walk down mid-century American memory lane, there is a masterpiece of a bar beloved by locals on Anaheim and Redondo. Bamboo Club is a Tiki style cocktail lounge that bleeds for its community. Tiki is a popular southern pacific island themed American born cocktail culture. Its roots are in rum runners who sailed through the Pacific Ocean and brought tropical aesthetic and flavors back home at the end of prohibition to open the first Tiki bar in Hollywood called Don the Beachcomber. Because Tiki is inherently American, following the post WWII mid-century boom, it has a lot in
common with the rhythm and blues subculture of Rockabilly. Also with American roots, the kitschy and mainstream subversive style of Rockabilly holds common space with Tiki of escapism and diverse foreign influence.
Bamboo club is a tropical oasis where Rockabilly meets Tiki in a truly psychedelic state. With walls sporting oceanic murals and black light dancing across skulls and tropical motifs, your eyes will never settle. Their traditional Tiki menu features classics ranging from familiar Mai Tais and Daiquiris to the more obscure Corn and Oil. Once you’ve downed your Three Dots and A Dash, it’s time to hit the dance floor. There’s not a week that goes by where Bamboo doesn’t have a DJ spinning twangy guitar and heavy bass. Music with an upbeat tempo yet smooth and sweeping, the soft hues of blue and green illuminating an intimate dance floor will have you convinced you’ve stepped into an alternate universe of fluffy cocktails under the sea.
