Ten months ago, I eagerly joined the ClimateActionAdvisory Committee (CAAC) with a sense of anticipation. My curiosity was piqued by the prospect of understanding the inner workings of local government and collaborating with fellow committee members to achieve our environmental goals. Public service roles like this one offer a unique opportunity to make a tangible difference in your community. However, patience is crucial, as our journey has demonstrated. After months of meetings, goal-setting, and navigating through subcommittees and changes in membership, we were thrilled to finally present our initial recommendations to the town council on August 22nd.

Our committee's primary mission is to assist the town council and staff in developing a comprehensive ClimateAction Plan aimed at reducing carbon emissions across various town sectors, including buildings, vehicles, waste management, and water treatment facilities. The ClimateAction Plan is designed to provide a strategic framework for these reductions, ensuring measurable progress towards our sustainability goals.

During our presentation, we outlined the concept of the ClimateAction Plan and made two key requests. First, we asked the council to join Partners in Climate Protection, a nationwide organization that supports municipalities in creating and implementing effective climate action strategies. Second, we requested $39,000 to hire an expert who would help establish a baseline inventory of our current carbon emissions. This baseline is essential for tracking our progress and evaluating the success of our emissions reduction efforts.

The response from the council was promising. Mayor Smith acknowledged the significance of our proposal, noting, “This is new for Wasaga Beach—a fresh and bold step forward to ensure that we are doing our part. There's no doubt that there's a lot of things happening and a lot of conversations happening within your committee.”

In addition to our advisory committee, the town also benefits from the dedicated efforts of the ClimateActionTeam, comprised of local volunteers. Councillor Belanger highlighted their contributions, stating, “…the local climate action team put in thousands of hours over the last four years researching a lot of things related to the environment. Working on education, such as rain barrel programs, washing machine attachments to keep PCPs out of the water. It's great to have so many residents giving of their own time and efforts to move our town forward and being environmentally responsible. Thank you on behalf of the committee.”

Moving forward, our focus will remain on assisting the town in developing a robust ClimateAction Plan while also identifying and recommending implementation of smaller, actionable steps to reduce emissions in the short term.Together, we aim to foster a more sustainable and environmentally responsible community

Wasaga Beach's own Jackson Fuller, a 13-year-old student at St. Noel Chabanel Catholic School and a member of the 714 Wasaga Beach Royal Canadian Air Cadets, is setting his sights on an special goal this October Jackson, known for his passion for riding snowmobiles, ATVs, and dirt bikes, is aiming to break a world record by riding an ATV for 24 hours, all in support of Simcoe County food banks.

during the event. All donations and funds raised will be distributed to Simcoe

The idea for this record-breaking attempt came to Jackson earlier this year when he saw a long line at a local food bank. Deeply moved, he decided to combine his love for riding with his desire to help others. After receiving approval from Guinness World Records, Jackson set his goal: to ride the most miles on an ATV (Youth) in a 24-hour period.

The event will take place at ODAS Park in Orillia, starting at 10 a.m. on October 12th and ending at 10 a.m. the following day. The Fuller family invites the community to support Jackson by donating through the Team S4K Racing (Sledheads 4 Kids) Facebook page or purchasing draw tickets for a chance to win great prizes. Donations of non-perishable food items will also be collected

Jackson's passion for helping others has been evident before—he previously planned a world record attempt on a snowmobile in February 2023 to support Amici Children's Camp Charity, which helps send kids from low-income households to summer camps across Ontario. Though that event was canceled due to lack of snow, Jackson's determination has only grown.

The Fuller family is also seeking sponsors to help make this event a success. Follow Jackson's journey and stay updated on the Team S4K Racing Facebook page and Sledheads4kids.ca.

Come out and support Jackson Fuller as he rides into the record books, showing that one person's passion can make a world of difference!

I know they say that money talks, but all mine says is 'Goodbye.'

My father has schizophrenia, but he's good people.

A termite walks into the bar and asks, 'Is the bar tender here?'

I always take life with a grain of salt. And a slice of lemon. And a shot of tequila.

My wife is on a new diet. Coconuts and bananas. She hasn't lost weight, but boy, can she climb a tree!

Went to the race track. The horse I bet on was so slow, the jockey kept a diary of the trip.

I was playing golf at Marlwood. I swung, missed the ball, and got a big chunk of dirt. I swung again, missed the ball, and got another big chunk of dirt. Just then, 2 ants climbed on the ball saying, "Let's get up here before we get killed!"

I have three kids, one of each.

I have a lot on my plate right now. Not busy, just hungry.

I was worried my phone notifications had stopped working but luckily I'm just unpopular.

I'm on a whisky diet. I've lost three days already.

Why do speed walkers look like kids who are told not to run around the pool?

Me and my bed are perfect for each other, but my alarm clock keeps trying to break us up.

There are so many scams on the Internet nowadays, but for $19.95 I can show you how to avoid them.

If the No.2 Pencil is the most popular….why is it still No.2?

For the first time I went into another room an actually remembered why I went there...... Ok so it was the bathroom but still I remembered.

Fill in the puzzle so that every row, column and box contains the numbers 1 through 9
