Beach Baker are delighted to be working with the Country Land & Business Association (CLA) to recruit a dynamic and knowledgeable Rural Adviser / Surveyor to join the team based near Newmarket.

YOUR ROLE AT CLA As a Rural Adviser / Surveyor, you’ll be at the forefront of:
MEMBER ADVICE & TECHNICAL SUPPORT •
Advise members on property -related issues, including commercial and residential tenancies, planning matters, and permitted development.
•
Ensuring advice given to members is accurate and provided in a timely manner. Working with and, where appropriate, referring queries to National Policy Advisers or Specialists to deliver the most appropriate advice.
•
Identifying through advisory work on behalf of members, issues for lobbying/campaigning action.
POLICY
& REPRESENTATION
•
Participating in national and regional forums, conferences and meetings, engaging with stakeholders both internally and externally as requested.
•
Preparing and submitting and/or assisting other Advisers/Surveyors in the preparation and submission of consultation responses on issues that affect CLA members both locally, regionally and potentially nationally.
•
Contributing to the delivery of CLA Campaigns within the Region.
•
Assisting the Regional Director in developing volunteer participation (branch and regional sub -committees/working groups as needed) to provide supporting technical expertise and local knowledge to members to represent CLA interests to outside organisations.
•
Identify opportunities to represent members interests in lobbying activities assisting the Regional Director.
EVENTS &
SHOWS
•
Contributing to the planning, programme and content of regional technical seminars/conferences.
•
Attending clinics, shows, farmers’ or other meetings to provide advice to members, including in the evenings and at weekends where necessary.
PR & COMMUNICATIONS •
Acting as media spokesperson within areas of competence as required.
•
Public speaking, within areas of competence and after training.
•
Preparing guidance notes, magazine articles and presentations as necessary or as requested.
BRANCH AND REGIONAL COMMITTEES Attending regional and branch committees as required and supporting committee members and office holders. •
Contributing to discussions on Policy issues at branch and regional committee meetings.
•
Together with the Regional Director ensuring that matters of importance raised at branch committees are effectively communicated to the appropriate policy making committees or individuals involved in the formulation of CLA policy.
•
Together with Regional Director providing guidance and briefings to branch and regional chairmen and other committee members as requested.
GENERAL •
Contributing to the activities of the regional team.
•
Deputising for the Regional Director or other members of the team when necessary and appropriate.
•
Undertaking membership retention activities and working closely with the Membership Relations Manager (MRM) to gather member intelligence.
•
Collecting and collating member information including liaising with the MRM and Regional Coordinator to ensure member information is up to date on the CRM system.
•
Supporting and contributing to all routine office duties, including telephone reception, as requested.
•
Supporting and working with the sales team to help identify potential member leads and introductions.
•

Other duties as required by the Regional Director.
PRODUCT KNOWLEDGE •
Keeping up to date with current issues affecting CLA members and identify how CLA policy will benefit members.
•
Maintaining a full understanding of all CLA membership products and member services in order to promote and upsell in conversations with CLA members.
•
Maintaining a knowledge of all CLA market segments.
WHAT WERE LOOKING FOR QUALIFICATIONS • Essential : Degree-level education or equivalent experience. • Desirable : MRICS, CAAV, RTPI or similar professional qualifications. SKILLS & EXPERIENCE • Strong knowledge of planning , land use, and property issues. • Experience advising farmers, landowners, and rural businesses. • Understanding of infrastructure projects and compulsory purchase (training available). • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. • Ability to build relationships and influence stakeholders. • Comfortable attending public events and promoting CLA values.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT & BENEFITS • Based on the scenic Stetchworth Estate near Newmarket. • Flexible working available (up to 2 days/week), with core office days on Mondays and Wednesdays. • Travel across the East region required – pool car provided. • Join a passionate team of eight, and be part of a wider CLA network of over 100 professionals.
