Acknowledgments
First and foremost, I would like to thank the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft – German Research Foundation (DFG – 338539858), which funded the threeyear research project on urban textile mills on which the current volume is based.
Several colleagues and experts provided insights of the individual textile mills: Robert Ambrée, Gonçalo Queirós Carvalho, Birgit Causin, Konstanze Domhardt, Marina Gasnier, Peter Dittrichs, Marcin Gawrysczak, Joana Gomes, Richard Grüll, Ian Miller, Kathleen Moermans, Pieter Neirinckx, Achim Pfeiffer, Julia Sowińska-Heim, Stephan Strauß, Patrick Viaene, and Bartosz Walzcak. Thanks to their engagement, I attained a broader understanding of the sites and the approaches to conservation and conversion. They also helped me gain access to archives, literature, and documents. Special thanks go to Mark Watson for double-checking the manuscript and providing helpful additions.

Wilhelmina Hoffmann accompanied the three-year project as a student assistant. Both Wilhelmina (graphics and images) and Dave Morris (text) supported the finalization of the book.
Last, but not least, I would also like to thank all my colleagues at the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin and at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar who provided helpful feedback and questions to develop the research and findings.
