MUSIC & CONCERTS NORTH ATLANTIC BLUES FESTIVAL ROCKLAND HARBOR PARK One of the most fun, relaxed weekends in Maine has got to be the annual North Atlantic Blues Festival, which features two full days of great live music. The festival this year is set for July 13-14, and features Ruthie Foster, Sugaray Rayford, and many more. Tickets are $55 for the weekend/$30 for a single day. NORTHATLANTICBLUESFESTIVAL.COM
AMERICAN FOLK FESTIVAL BANGOR WATERFRONT The 2019 edition of the American Folk Festival promises to be similar to its predecessors — a world-class event, taking place on the shores of the Penobscot River. Musicians representing a colorful array of world traditions will perform, lots of fantastic food will be served, and plenty of shopping and people-watching are there to be enjoyed. HAVE YOU EVER TAKEN IN THE BEAUTY OF A FIELD OF POTATO BLOSSOMS? The small but attractive
potato blossoms are usually a lovely shade of purple, but depending on the variety of potato, may also be white, pink, red, or blue, all with bright yellow stamen. When driving down the road and coming across a field in bloom, it is a breathtaking site. Rows and rows of the prettiest little plants. The scenery is a worthy site to cause you to want to pull to the side of the road, to take a picture, or even a selfie if your heart so desires. If you have not experienced the sight of a field of potato blossoms, then add it to your bucket list of things you must see. In northern Maine’s Aroostook County, our potato fields traditionally bloom in July, with harvest time to follow (usually beginning in early September). Fort Fairfield’s 72nd Annual Potato Blossom Festival is a celebration of these blooming potatoes— and you are invited! If you have not had the pleasure of attending the Annual Maine Potato Blossom Festival in Fort Fairfield yet, then this must be your time. Fort Fairfield has celebrated many years in history of recordsetting numbers of those participating in this well-thought-out occasion. It’s familyoriented, potato-themed great fun. People born and raised in this town come back to the festival every year. They wouldn’t miss it! Why might that be? The celebration of potatoes! The season of the blossoms is a gorgeous one. From July 17–21, Fort Fairfield holds a celebration with live music from various artists; potato picking contests; coveted Maine Potato Queen pageants; a food court with French fries and other tasty offerings; a pancake breakfast; mashed potato wrestling; crafting vendors; block house and one-room schoolhouse historical tours; and so much more for the entire family. It all concludes with a large, fabulous parade on Saturday and the “Tough Tater” and “Tater Tot” races and fireworks on Sunday. For the little ones, there’s a movie in the park, inflatable adventure park, bike rodeo, and the baby and bike parade and pet show. For the athletic families, this festival offers events such as 5-Miler Road Race, swim meet, 3-on-3 basketball, girls’ softball, and horseshoe and chess tournaments. As you can see, there is plenty for everyone and this list is not all inclusive.

This year, the festival is kicking off with a BBQ cookoff hosted by the Central Aroostook Chamber of Commerce. There are four entry categories: brisket, pork butt, ribs and poultry.
