In April 2019, the Council of Ministers adopted two directives for the European Commission to negotiate with the USA the reduction of industrial tariffs and regulatory cooperation. In case the USA should impose any new tariffs against the EU – and thus break the agreement between President Juncker and President Trump in July 2018 – the EU would suspend negotiations. German industry supports the abolishment of tariffs and regulatory barriers in transatlantic trade.
