The Brockville Chinese Community StepS-Up in Support of Brockville General Hospital’s Fight Against COVID-19

The Brockville and District Hospital Foundation (BDHF) would like to thank Brockville’s Chinese Community for their $6,385 gift that was raised from donations made by the Chinese Community’s families and businesses in support of Brockville General Hospital’s caregivers.

CATHERINE & JOHN MACDONALD TREAT BGH STAFF TO TIM HORTON’S NOVA SCOTIA STRONG DOUGHNUTS In a show of support for the communities in Nova Scotia affected by the recent mass shooting tragedy, Brockville residents, Catherine and John Macdonald; kindly donated Tim Hortons’ Nova Scotia Strong doughnuts to the staff at Brockville General Hospital as a thank you to front line staff.

Tim Hortons (Brockville Locations) community spirit also continues to shine through having donated coffee for BGH staff to enjoy along with the donated doughnuts.

Since 2011, the LOVE YOU program by Shoppers Drug Mart™ has raised, and donated, over $68 million, nationally, to charitable organizations benefiting women’s health in Canada, with 100% of donations going directly to charity.

For the past five years, Shoppers Drug Mart (Brockville and Prescott locations), have been partnering with the Brockville and District Hospital to raise funds for Brockville General Hospital’s Cardiac Rehabilitation Program.

The purpose of BGH’s Cardiac Rehabilitation Program is to reduce the risk of future heart disease by providing education to patients after suffering a heart attack, having bypass surgery, stents or other cardiac interventions. Modifiable risk factors are identified and worked towards reducing these risks through lifestyle interventions. This is accomplished through twice weekly group exercise sessions, nutritional presentation with the dietitian, stress management and assistance with smoking cessation among other services. The Cardiac Rehabilitation Program relies heavily on donations and community support and has an annual operating cost of $181,000.

Over the course of the month-long LOVE YOU program, Shoppers Drug Mart raised $12,570. These funds were raised by holding bake sales, and by selling in-store icons, including a leaf for $1, a butterfly for $5, an apple for $10 or a bird for $50.
