St. Joseph REGIONAL HEALTH CENTER

In many ways, St. Joseph Regional Health Center is not the hospital your parents may have used. Much has changed in the more than 74 years since the Sisters of St. Francis of Sylvania, Ohio came to the community. The founding Sisters certainly could not have imagined the amazing growth that the hospital has undergone, now with multiple clinic locations and throughout the Brazos Valley, more than 350 members on the medical staff representing almost every major medical specialty area, and a growing number of state and national accreditations, certifications and honors.

St. Joseph Regional Health Center recently expanded into College Station where its medical office building is open and accepting patients to see family practice physicians as well as doctors specializing in pediatrics, obstetrics, and neurology and pain management. The medical office building sits next to St. Joseph Express, an Urgent Care facility on the south side of town, and the St. Joseph Emergency Center, a free-standing ER. Because of the amazing success of the St. Joseph Express in College Station, St. Joseph opened a second St. Joseph Express location on Villa Maria in Bryan. Both St. Joseph Express locations are open seven days a week to care for minor illnesses and injuries for the entire family, even during nighttime and weekend hours when other physician offices are closed.

New to the St. Joseph College Station Campus is a new wellequipped Diagnostic Center to meet the needs of local residents who have orders for laboratory testing or diagnostic imaging.

Located in a new 15,000-square foot facility that encompasses the Emergency Center, the St. Joseph Diagnostic Center will provide full-service outpatient imaging and diagnostics, including a fullservice laboratory, CT scanner, MRI, X-ray, ultrasound equipment and digital mammography.

In August, SJRHC marked a big anniversary in the treatment of heart attack patients. From August 1, 2009 to August 1 of 2010, 100% of STEMI patients (those suffering from ST segment elevation myocardial infarction) were treated within 90 minutes of arrival. This elite accomplishment puts St. Joseph well above the national average of 75% and is driven by the tireless efforts of the SJRHC team to examine, test and treat all suspected heart attack patients as quickly as possible. St. Joseph was the region’s first Certified Chest Pain Center in the Brazos Valley and remains the region’s only accredited Primary Stroke Center, providing rapid diagnostics and care for patients suspected of suffering from a stroke. The center recently received a Stroke Silver Performance Award from the American Stroke 8 VITAL SIGNS 2010

Association - a designation less than 600 hospitals in the nation received and one awarded to St. Joseph for following best-practice standards of stroke care.

Aside from it’s commitment to quality, SJRHC is growing its programs to meet the medical needs of the Brazos Valley.

Currently St. Joseph has a number of expansion projects underway, including a $13 million construction project to transform its maternity services into a new Women’s Health unit, the $9 million renovation and addition of high-tech orthopedic and neurosurgical operating room suites, and renovation of its heart labs with new cutting edge technology to do vascular procedures.

While changes and improvements to the quality of local health services continue, the mission of the Sisters has remained through the years and is still alive and well – to respect the dignity of every individual while providing excellent care and promoting wellness to residents on the Brazos Valley.

COLLEGE STATION MEDICAL CENTER

Established in 1931 by its founder, L.O. Wilkerson, M.D., College Station Medical Center, formerly known as the Bryan Hospital, is the first hospital in Bryan – College Station.

Throughout the 79 years of its existence the hospital has grown and developed, focusing on advanced medical care for the Brazos Valley and increasing its relevancy to our community.

Today, College Station Medical Center (The Med) is a 150-bed level III trauma facility with an assessed property value exceeding $110 million, making it the largest taxpayer in College Station and a top five taxpayer in Brazos County. A benevolent community partner, the hospital supports numerous civic and local charities and provides an estimated 17 percent of its annual collections in underwriting charity care and helping patients and families with financial assistance.

In 2007, the hospital became the official healthcare provider of Texas A&M Athletics. That same year, the hospital was named Brazos Valley Community Action Agency (BVCAA) Partner of the Year.

Over the past several years the hospital has focused on developing the medical infrastructure and technology in and around its campus and recruiting primary and specialty care physicians. The hospital has a medical staff exceeding 400, with over 97 physicians located on campus. With over 300,000 square feet of medical office space, College Station Medical Center offers one of the most advanced medical corridors in the region.

Numerous medical providers and physicians now call our campus their home.

July saw the beginning of the College Station Medical Center’s expansion project. The project calls for 29,822 square feet of new construction, 18,566 square feet of renovation that includes: six additional exam rooms in the Emergency Department, an expansion of the Women’s Pavilion with 43 additional patient beds, including new labor and delivery suites, ante- and postpartum rooms and rooms specifically designed for gynecological surgery patients. Also expanded will be the number of neonatal intensive care unit rooms, making them private NICU rooms for families.

The medical centers’ vision embraces partnering with local healthcare providers; examples include the multi-million dollar DaVita dialysis center, Central Texas Veterans Health Care Services, Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center, Pediatrix (NICU) and the BVCAA. The partnership with the BVCAA introduced College Station’s first Women and Children’s clinic within the framework of a federally qualified health center. Within the first eight months of its existence, this creative public/private partnership, in collaboration with six area physicians, cared for

over 3,000 women and children. Each of these collaborations has demonstrated our vision of inclusiveness and our willingness to partner with others to provide medical advancements to Bryan – College Station. Scott & White COLLEGE STATION

Scott & White College Station is a multi-specialty group practice that provides high-quality, comprehensive care for the entire family, and one of a growing number of Scott & White Healthcare clinics and hospitals serving Central Texas and the Brazos Valley.

Located at 1600 University Drive East, Scott & White College Station houses over 30 medical specialties for men, women and children for convenient and comprehensive care. Also located at Scott & White College Station is a four-suite ambulatory surgery center. This surgery center gives the College Station clinic the ability to provide day surgery procedures, giving patients an option for surgery, where appropriate, that is convenient and close to home.

Scott & White recently opened a clinic and pharmacy in South College Station to meet the growing health care needs of the residents of College Station. The 13,000 square-foot facility, located at the corner of Arrington Road and Highway 40, houses four family medicine physicians as well as on-site laboratory services and diagnostic x-ray capabilities.

The pharmacy offers a full line of prescription services and an extensive over-the-counter department, as well as a drive-through window. In addition to providing comprehensive medication reviews for patients, the pharmacy also has specialized monitoring and educational services for patients with diabetes, hypertension, heart disease, asthma and other pulmonary diseases.
