heumatology of Brazos Valley Dr. Scheinost has the most outstanding doctor/patient persona I have ever experienced. I have even received “after hour” calls to inquire about my well being. In an office visit, not only is she interested in what I have to say, but she gives me feedback for all my concerns. There has never been an “I’m in a hurry” visit. Her positive and reassuring attitude along with her personal attention to me as a patient reflects the highest of professional standards.

I have had rheumatoid arthritis for 43 years. Prior to her treatment I had reached a very painful point of the disease. Friends who knew me then and now and saw the improvement are now patients of Dr. Scheinost. She is a very caring doctor and she takes all the time needed at your appointment so that you understand the disease and treatment options. She has an extremely fine staff to assist her and you.

I have been Dr. Scheinost’s patient for the past 16 years and have been very pleased with the care I have received. Not only is Dr. Scheinost an excellent doctor, but also a very caring person. This would be a much better world if we had more people like her.

Scott & White Health Plan member Bill Mateja with Insurance Agent Eileen St. Amant.

When Bill turned 65, he asked Eileen for Medicare advice. Bill Mateja and his wife Susan wanted a health plan they could trust, with convenience and affordability so they wouldn’t lose their nest egg. That’s why Eileen at Scott & White Health Plan recommended the SeniorCare1 (Cost) HMO plan. Now the Matejas get the affordable coverage they need, plus extras like a 24-hour Nurse Line, coverage when they travel2 and most importantly, Eileen—a trusted insurance agent and adviser when they need help.

Welcome from Carolyn Kraus, RSVP-Senior Corps

T

he Eagle and RSVPSenior Corps are proud to bring you the 15th annual edition of the Senior Resource guide. Seniors are a vital part of our community and responding to their needs is the reason The Eagle and RSVPSenior Corps have produced this unique directory of services. A yearly supplement of The Eagle, the Senior Resource guide is published in conjunction with the Seniors Expo in May. RSVP (Retired & Senior Volunteer Program) is celebrating our 40th Anniversary this year. RSVP was authorized in 1969 under Title VI of the Older Americans Act and came to the Brazos Valley in 1972. Now, 40 years later, we have almost 1000 seniors age 55 and older who contribute over 160,000 hours in service annually through 140 nonprofit and service

organizations seven-county region.

throughout the Brazos Valley

RSVP-Senior Corps is a unique program because its flexibility allows persons of various skill levels and expertise to tackle problems that directly affect their communities. Volunteers mentor children, support homebound seniors, assist community policing and also help with disaster volunteer training through the CERT Citizen Corps program, www.citizencorps.gov. RSVP volunteers work from 1 to 40 hours a week and choose opportunities that best fit their lifestyles. They use the skills they’ve honed through their life and job experience, or expand their knowledge by trying new

experiences. Our original motto, “People Helping People” has expanded to engage boomer age seniors to “Lead With Experience”

and provide the skills and resources an organization is seeking to enhance their

capacity to meet community needs. And remember: When you volunteer, you’re not just helping others—you’re helping yourself. Volunteering leads to new discoveries and new friends. Plus, studies show that volunteering helps you live longer and promotes a positive outlook on life. RSVP is sponsored by the Corporation for National and Community Service with local sponsorship by the Brazos Valley Council of Governments-Area Agency on Aging. Explore how you can serve - call RSVP at 979.595.2800, email rsvp@ bvcog.org , visit www.bvcog. org view us on BVCOG Facebook page or choose from the many volunteer opportunities listed at www.
