THE MED College Station Medical Center traces its beginning to the city of Bryan, where it originated as Bryan Hospital in 1931. In 1987 the hospital moved to its current location on Rock Prairie Road in College Station. Throughout the 86 years of its existence, the hospital has grown and developed, focusing on advanced medical care for the Brazos Valley and strengthening its support of the community.

College Station Medical Center (the MED) is a 167-bed, Level III trauma

facility that continues to be a generous community supporter; the hospital supports numerous civic and local charities and provides medically necessary emergency care to all patients regardless of their ability to pay.

The MED works closely with the physicians of College Station Medical Associates to provide residents of the Brazos Valley with a full continuum of health care services, including primary and wound care, internal medicine, orthopedics, general and bariatric surgery,

women’s services and cardiac care. Over the past several years, the hospital has focused on developing the medical infrastructure and technology in and around its campus and recruiting primary and specialty care physicians. The hospital has a medical staff exceeding 400, including the only adult and pediatric urologist in the community.

The hospital’s MedPlus family of convenient care clinics is designed to offer a convenient solution when residents are faced with illnesses or injuries that need prompt attention. Each MedPlus location provides X-rays and lab services, all under one roof and affiliated with College Station Medical Center and its network of specialists.

The MED’s Breast Diagnostic Center offers a full range of women’s diagnostic services, including screening mammograms, bone density and breast ultrasounds, all placed conveniently in one location. The center is also home to the only hospital in the area to offer 3D mammography, which increases early detection. The Breast Diagnostic Center now offers genetic testing for patients with personal and/or family history that would increase their risk for hereditary cancer syndromes, allowing them to use this as a tool to make informed choices in managing their care.

The Wellness Center at College Station Medical Center includes joint replacement and bariatric surgery. It is the only hospital in the Brazos Valley region to receive national certification in joint replacement from the Joint Commission and is home to the only fellowship-trained bariatric surgeon in the community. The Wellness

Unit includes a culture of excellence that coordinates multi-disciplinary services to improve the quality of patient care by preparing patients with a pre-surgical educational class and complete guidebook, so they are prepared for what to expect and how to live with total joint replacement and bariatric surgical procedures.

The MED offers advanced care through its Accredited Cycle V Chest Pain and Primary Stroke Center, Accredited Sleep Center for both adults and pediatrics, and is home to the 30-Minute ER Service Pledge, which means staff is committed to making sure each patient arriving in the ER is seen by a medical professional (physician, physician assistant or nurse practitioner) within 30 minutes of arrival.

College Station Medical Center continues to be a leader in the region’s developing health care delivery system, and is committed to responding to the needs of the Brazos Valley. The all private room facility has led many first-time medical advancements in the area, including the introduction of the community’s first Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, advanced interventional cardiology and surgical robotics. In fact, surgeons at College Station Medical Center were the first in the Brazos Valley to offer single-incision robotic surgery, a breakthrough that allows surgeons to perform certain surgeries through a small incision hidden in the belly button.

Scott & White Healthcare has been serving central Texas since 1897 and the College Station region for nearly 30 years. In 2016, it began doing business as Baylor Scott & White Medical Center – College Station and Baylor Scott & White Medical Center – Brenham. The name change is a milestone that marks a journey that began more than three years ago when Scott & White Healthcare merged with Baylor Health.
