A WORD FROM GLEN BREWER
Howdy,
As the President/CEO of the Bryan/College Station Chamber of Commerce, I want to take this opportunity to provide you with updates on recent events and initiatives that have taken place under our organization’s umbrella.
I am thrilled to announce the success of our recent Washington DC Federal Legislative Trip in May. The trip offered the opportunity for our chamber members to engage with federal lawmakers and key decision-makers in our nation’s capital. Through productive meetings and meaningful discussions, we were able to communicate the interests and concerns of our local business community. The participants were enthusiastic and expressed their appreciation for the unique chance to advocate for the issues that directly impact our region. We are confident that this advocacy will yield positive results for our members and the overall economic development of Bryan/College Station
We recently celebrated the graduation of 46 members of the 41st class of Leadership Brazos. From their retreat at Camp Allen to exploring various sectors of our community such as Healthcare, Criminal Justice, Government, Education, Agriculture, and more, the class members gained valuable insights into what makes Brazos County so unique. Applications for the 2025 Class of Leadership Brazos will be available in July.
I am also pleased to report that the 10th Annual Founders Night was an overwhelming success. Sponsored by The City of Bryan, this event served as a celebration of our community’s rich history and the founding of our twin cities. Founders Night provided a remarkable platform for networking among our members, fostering new relationships while strengthening existing ones.

The Chamber made its annual trip to Washington, D.C. May 6-9, to advocate for local businesses in the Bryan/College Station community. A group consisting of 35 Chamber members and staff visited with every member of the Texas Congressional delegation along with other key Congressional leaders and presented the Chamber’s Federal Legislative Action Plan for 2024 Since January, the Chamber’s Legislative Affairs Committee has been hard at work to develop the Legislative Action Plan to take to Congress.
The major topics included in the 2024 Federal Legislative Action Plan are as follows:
Economic Development
·Health Care
·Higher Education & Workforce Training
Transportation
Upon arriving in DC, the Chamber delegation had a briefing from Tim Wickman, Senior VP, of State and Local Policy, with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce to learn about the hot topics on Capitol Hill Items of discussion were the FAA reauthorization, election turnover, and workforce needs. Following the U.S. Chamber briefing, the delegation was treated to a reception at the offices of Van Scoyoc Associates
The first day began with a group photo on the steps of the Capitol. The rest of the day was spent in one of the House meeting rooms at the Capitol where the group met with Congressman Mike McCaul, Congressman Pete Sessions, Congressman Bryan Babin, Congresswoman Cathy McMorris Rodgers, Leader Steve Scalise, and Senator Ted Cruz. Each shared their views on issues of interest and took questions from the group. That evening, Congressman Mike McCaul hosted a dinner for the delegation at the Capitol Hill Club.
The second day began with breakfast and a briefing from Larry Meyers with Hance Scarborough Larry and his team offered their thoughts on the Chamber’s Legislative Action Plan and other topics of the day Afterward, the group split up into nine teams and spent the day meeting with every Texas Congressional member in their offices. Each group presented the Chamber’s Legislative Action Plan to either the Representative or a member of the Representative’s staff. After a busy day on The Hill, the group enjoyed a wonderful dinner cruise on the Potomac River, seeing the sights of DC along the way
The annual trip to Washington, DC is important for many reasons It keeps the B/CS Chamber engaged with not only our Congressmen and Senators but with other key leaders who recognize the value of a unified message when it comes to business issues But most importantly, it gives the over 1,600 members of the B/CS Chamber of Commerce a voice in our nation’s capital.
As always, the Chamber couldn’t make the trip without the help of our generous sponsors.
·Twin Oaks Landfill BVSWMA, Inc
·The City of Bryan C&J Barbeque
·Shackelford Consulting, LLC
Patterson Architects
·Blinn College District

·Texas A&M University
Cotton Global Disaster Solutions
The topics in the Legislative Action Plan are the product of a survey of all Chamber members to find out the issues that were of the highest importance to them

May 17, 2024

Dear Members of the Bryan/College Station Chamber of Commerce and community,
This letter is a bittersweet moment for me. I want to begin by thank you for allowing me the privilege of representing you in the Texas House. The confidence that you placed in me allowed me to have the honor of a lifetime: the opportunity to serve as your voice in state government. It was a distinction that I will be forever grateful for.
Working along side you, we had many legislative successes. Together, we celebrated legislative victories by watching a bill become a law or by watching a bill die a favored death. Thank you for all the phone calls, texts and emails that you sent to make your voice heard. And though we may not have always agreed, I valued and very much respected your input. Collectively we worked to make Texas House District 14 a better, successful, vibrant business community - a place we can be proud to call home!
With my retirement as a public servant, I look forward to working with the Chamber as a fellow business owner and community member. I will lend my support to my successor as he begins his opportunity of a life time, representing House District 14!
With kind regards,

To the Constituents of House District 12 and the Brazos Valley,

As my time as State Representative of House District 12 begins to draw to a close, I’d like to take this opportunity to express my heartfelt gratitude for the continued trust and support that I have received throughout my time in office.
For more than a decade, I have been honored to represent the communities of House District 12, as well as the Brazos Valley, in the Texas House of Representatives While the district has changed and evolved over the years, the beauty of this district lies within the hearts of its people I’ve been blessed beyond measure by the invaluable friendships and countless memories my time in public service has given me
It would take me a lifetime to thank all of the individuals that have helped and guided me along the way as we have worked to ensure that Texas continues to be a state of unlimited opportunity as well as the very best state to work and raise a family
And while Texas is the envy of our nation, the Brazos Valley has become the envy of our state. Given our economically advantageous position within the Texas Triangle, the Brazos Valley has become not only a destination to visit, but a place for many more to call home. With significant investments made to our local infrastructure and a business-friendly climate bolstered by a highly skilled, diverse and growing workforce, the Brazos Valley provides many of us with a wonderful quality of life and a place that we are lucky to call home. Much of this is made possible by the collaborative efforts of our local leaders, elected officials, and the many engaged community members of the Brazos Valley that work so tirelessly to ensure that we continue to meet the needs of everyone within our community.
I am proud of the progress that we have made together, and look forward to continuing to partner with the Bryan/College Station Chamber of Commerce as we effectively advocate for the Brazos Valley on issues of the upmost importance to us.
May God bless you, and through you, may God bless the great state of Texas.
Sincerely,

Kyle Kacal State Representative
