NHS Hosts Blood Drive at DeKalb

I was personally lucky enough to be able to donate this year. You have to be at least 16 years old to donate blood, with your parent's permission. On the day of the blood drive, I handed the signed permission slip to the nurse at the sign-in desk with my valid ID (driver's license will do)

After that, I sat down to answer a few questions to ensure my blood was healthy enough to donate. Then the nurses will took my blood pressure and pricked your finger. Finally, I sat down and they began to draw my blood.

Buchanan County R-IV Nurse Bessie McGaughey says, “Giving or ‘donating’ blood is a service that helps so many individuals from children to the elderly There are multiple reasons someone may ‘need’ blood products. This can range from illnesses and cancers that deplete the blood counts, to major accidents involving blood loss. For some, these are life-saving.”

So, if you qualify and want to donate and help save people, reach out to your local blood bank or hospital to see when you can come in and donate.

What to Watch

Do you like Marvel or superheroes? If yes, then this movie is for you. Captain America: Brave New World came out on February 14, 2025. It is about 2 hours long and rated PG-13.

The movie focuses on Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie), Thaddeus Ross (Harrison Ford), and Seth Voelker (Giancarlo Esposito).

Sam is the new Captain America and Thaddeus Ross is the new president, but his past is trying to show some red.

The question is, can Sam stop everything from going bad between everyone? Will this mysterious person show the true colors of Thaddeus Ross, and how will everything play out in the end?

The movie has a 48% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, but I thought it was way better than that. You can watch it in theaters or when it comes out on Disney+.

What to Read

What to Play

A book I would strongly recommend is The Lake by Natasha Preston. Her books are very well written and make you feel like you’re walking along with the main character as you read the story. I give this book five stars, and highly recommend it for readers who like thrillers.

In the book, we follow the story of 17year-old Esme as she travels back to her first summer camp, not as a camper, but as a counselor in training. She finds it difficult to return after what happened 10 years ago. Thinking she was in the clear, she was quickly proven wrong.

The camp is being completely tampered with, not in a prank way, but in a very disturbing way. Between a dead deer in the lunch cabin, and creepy dolls in the lake, Esme knows this won’t just be another normal year at camp.

Have you been bored these days? Or are you tired of bad video games? Today, I bring you a super special game. It is a POV game about a mouse who lives in the forest. It is a game full of missions. You can get food and water and fight against other rats, cats, squirrels, snakes, and badgers. You can also get a wife and, if you get level 20, a kid. You need to improve your shelter in the forest and in the house.

The name of this game is Mouse Simulator, and you can get it in the App Store or the Google Play Store.

Coach Roberts works hard to teach the middle schoolers and keep them entertained with his fun games. In addition to helping kids stay fit and learn different sports, Coach Roberts always does his best to make a good impact on his students’ days and put a smile on their faces.

Coach Roberts’s hard work doesn’t go unappreciated. One student writes that “he is always caring and pushes you to do your best.”

We would like to thank Coach Roberts for teaching the middle schoolers and doing his best to make everyone's day just a little bit better. If you see Coach Robert’s in the hallways, tell him congratulations and let him know that you appreciate him!

What to Listen To

If you are interested in branching out into different types of music, hip-hop is a fun place to start Tyler, The Creator is an alternative hip-hop artist and one of my all-time favorites.

Starting his career in 2009, Tyler won his first Grammy in 2020 for his album IGOR. Tyler released his new album Chromkopia on October 28, 2024, and has started his tour for it. On this album, “Like Him” is the most streamed strong.

Many know Tyler, The Creator from his song “See You Again” featuring Kali Uchis. Some of my personal favorites are “DOGTOOTH” and “SWEET/I THOUGHT YOU WANTED TO DANCE” from his CALL ME IF YOU GET LOST album.

The District Trap Shoot event is on April 5th at KCTA in Smithville. After this shoot, the top five boys and top five girls will go on to State.

Both of these songs have a catchy beat that makes them easy to listen to. Some other songs that you should give a try are “EARFQUAKE” and “Judge Judy.”
