Every Courtwarming, a time honored tradition occurs on Powell Court between that year's senior class and the faculty in the Dekalb Senior Faculty Game. Each year, the senior class and staff gather their star studded rosters for the most important basketball game of the year. The rules are the same as any other basketball game, except it’s two 20 minute halves with a running clock at all times. Normally, the staff take a more relaxed approach to the game, providing some friendly banter and laughs while playing light defense. This year though, the staff turned the knob up to 11 and played all out against the seniors. While not all the seniors played, most of the basketball teams and a few others suited up against the staff. One basketball senior, Jayden Schnieder, remembers mostly about “I remember losing pretty badly, but thankfully the scoreboard operator was new to the job.” Cristen Cagle watched from the sidelines, cheering on her fellow staff members, watching as “Lathan grabbed the ball and immediately asked for help.” While the seniors lost pretty badly, it was a fun experience that they’ll remember for the rest of their lives and have stories that they can give their kids in the future. Hopefully, next year's senior class can avenge the seniors of this year and put a stop to the reign of the staff.
