Our own little coffee shop has opened back up for the year! The Muddy Paw is up and running as of this Friday, September 5, and has some new drinks and faces to go with it.

With the new faces, we have new, interesting drinks and breakfast items In addition to the usual coffees from last year, you can now choose from a caramel macchiato, a pink drink, or a frozen coffee in caramel, vanilla, or mocha flavors. They are also offering breakfast items from Mama’s Little Kitchen in Rushville, like cinnamon rolls and blueberry muffins.

This Friday was the opening of the Muddy Paw, and it was, in Mrs. Rangel’s words, “A little chaotic, but we are fixing little mistakes here and there, and we will learn as we continue to open every Friday.” The opening was a big success, and the orders were coming in faster than they could make them The majority of students were happy with their drinks, with seventhgrader Emmie, who got a frozen caramel coffee with whipped cream and caramel drizzle, saying, “It is really good.”

Muddy Paw has started with major success and will just continue to get better. Come and buy a drink or breakfast food on Friday mornings before school starts and support our Tiger entrepreneurs.

Cross Country Exceeds Expectations at First Meet of Season

Cross Country had its first meet on September 2nd at the Northwest Missouri Two Miler, held at Missouri Western State University. The Cross Country team consists of Senior Blake Norton, Junior Kaiden Meyers, and Freshman Zylar Helton, who all finished with some solid times. Coach Taylor said the runners “ ... beat my expectations.”

Coach Taylor reflected that she has asked, “Mr Norton to run for [her] for many years, and he finally did this year“ With this being his first year running Cross Country, he exceeded everyone’s expectations Blake said he, “ did pretty good for [his] first time running.” Blake medaled by running an 11.38.0 and coming in 9th out of over 150 runners.

Kaiden Meyers and Zylar Helton also did exceptionally well, with Kaiden running a 13 06 2 and Zylar running a 19 371

What to Watch

If you are looking for a new superhero series to watch, then I recommend the DC series Young Justice.

One of my favorite shows, the DC series Young Justice was released in 2010 and ended in 2013 It’s about the Justice League sidekicks Robin, Aqualad, Kid Flash, Miss Martian, Artemis, and Superboy.

In this series, the sidekicks go on missions that the Justice League won’t take on Throughout the seasons, they fight with an undertaking force called The Light. After a while, other members are being added to the team.

You can stream Young Justice on Max

If you listen to Sabrina Carpenter or you are interested in listening to a new album, then I recommend you Man's Best Friend. Sabrina Carpenter released this new album on August 29th and it has 12 different songs. This is currently her seventh studio album and has sparked lots of different conversation

Most of the controversy is over her original album cover, some say that it has sexist themes while others think it represents controlling relationships. Sabrina herself has said that the cover was actually about acknowledging making mistakes in relationships Some have also noticed that one of her other album covers is heavily inspired by Marilyn Monroe

Some of the songs on this album are Manchild, Tears, My Man On Willpower, Sugar Talking, We Almost Broke Up Again Last Night, Nobody’s Son, When Did You Get Hot?, Go Go Juice, Don't Worry I’ll Make You Worry, House Tour, Goodbye, and others The most popular song off this album is Manchild and it's noted as number 1 on the Billboard Hot 100! My personal favorites off this album are Goodbye and When Did You Get Hot because they are both very catchy and stuck in my head

What to Read

Have you ever wanted to travel across the world without ever leaving your bedroom? If so, consider reading the informative novel, A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini.

The novel tells the saddening story of a Pashtun woman and a Tajik woman, two of Afghanistan's major ethnic groups, and their journey of being shackled to an abusive Pashtun man

Mariam, an illegitimate child of a wealthy businessman, is sold into marriage with Rasheed, a respected shoemaker For almost 2 decades, Mariam has been stuck alone in her marriage, before he finds a young woman harmed by the war near their house. Rasheed, being legally allowed to marry more than one woman, takes her as his second wife. This is the beginning of a horrifying journey as the two women desperately try to leave and survive at the same time

I recommend this novel to people who are interested in the lives of those who live in different parts of the world from us. This story opens your eyes to the reality that many women face just around the globe

In conclusion, this book, while longer, is definitely worth reading. You have the opportunity to learn more about others’ struggles, and it will be one you will remember

Tigers Face Tough Fight During Season Opener

On Friday August 29, our DeKalb Football team traveled to Albany to play their first game of the season.

“We have a little bit to work on, but once we fix that we’ll be fine,” says #11, Quarterback Cooper Wachtel. The final score was 32-74 with the Dekalb Tigers losing. It was a pretty big loss but there were many positives to the game, such as “Letting the young kids play against the older kids; it’s always a good learning experience,” says Coach Wardlow.

The boys have been practicing on the little things to prepare for tonight's first home game against the King City Wildcats

The game starts at 7pm. Admission at the gate is $5 for adults and $3 for students. Please come down to DeKalb High School and cheer on our DeKalb Tigers!

AI is Taking Over!? What to Play

One trend going on right now is AI AI has now created music, art, pictures, etc. Students all over have tried to have AI do their homework.

It can be addictive for people to interact with the AI chatbots Future doctors, teachers, politicians, and many others are probably using AI to write their essays right now It is taking over online jobs, such as accounting. Some people have even claimed to “fall in love” with AI.

The time we are living in right now is very AI-filled, and most places use AI for ads and videos People are using AI to scam people to buy nonexistent products

Assassin's Creed: Shadows, the most recent installment in the Assassin’s Creed series, was released on March 20th This action-adventure stealth RPG-type of game will have you enthralled for hours on end It has many missions, side missions, companion missions, and much more.

The game takes place in the year 1579 during the AzuchiMomoyama period Unlike most Assassin’s Creed games, this one has two main characters: Fujibayashi Naoe, a female shinobi, and Yasuke, a strong samurai

If you are looking for stealthy gameplay, I recommend playing as Naoe, a silent shinobi. Naoe takes the role of the assassin in the game and is best at stealth

On the other hand, if you want more of a violent, loud, and combat-style gameplay, I recommend playing as Yasuke. This Samurai stands at six feet tall, towering over his enemies. Yasuke has a variety of weapons at his disposal as well.

The main goal in the game is to hunt down the Shinbakufu as revenge for killing Naoe’s father and taking a sacred box that Naoe’s father entrusted her to protect.

Assassin’s Creed: Shadows retails at $69.99 on PlayStation, Xbox, and PC

Lady Tigers Have a “Wonderful” First Week!

Our Lady Tigers had a busy game week, with three games, one right after another Tuesday’s game was at home against North Platte, resulting in a score of 2-3, with North Platte winning However, they came back with a win on Wednesday night when they played Albany and won with a score of 8-0 On Thursday night, they played against East Buchanan, resulting in a score of 15-2 with DeKalb winning and our Varsity team ending the game early

In regards to all the games Coach H says, “I’m very proud of how we’re playing and the energy We hit the ball hard, and I’m proud of their presence in the box ”

For the past few years, Coach H has awarded the game ball to a player after each game. She learned the tradition from college, where her coach used it as a way to reward players. The game ball is a new softball that eventually has quotes written all over it from the game ball recipients. To be awarded with it, the players must have a good attitude or good play, or maybe just impressed the coaches and other players at some point in the night by doing something extra.

Our Lady Tigers’ play next Tuesday, September 9th, at Stewartsville. Come out and support our Softball team!
