COLWELL BAY, ISLE OF WIGHT

Isle of Wight institution, destination restaurant and bar and, more recently, GQ magazine “Best Overall Experience”.

The Hut has a spectacular beachside setting, which is ideal for watching the sun set past The Needles, casting a warm glow across Christchurch Bay. It is owned and run by brothers Matt and George Adams and specialises in a unique blend of food, music and seaside style.

Colwell Bay is a ten minute drive from Yarmouth and The Hut has two branded Land Rover 101 FC ex military personnel carriers, which collects guests from the ferry or marina. Those who have arrived by yacht from Lymington and anchored in the bay are conveyed ashore ‘James Bond’ style by inflatable dinghy.

The Menu is seasonal, with fish tacos, crab salad, rock oysters and of course grilled lobster (they sell around 1,000 per week in summer) as well as their famous surf and turf platter for two. The house ‘Painkiller’ involves Gosling’s rum, coconut, pineapple and orange; sat on their stylish deck, you could almost be in the Caribbean.

The building itself has grown significantly since The Hut was founded in 2013 and BCM have been glad to assist the owners from their initial concept to the latest in a number of successful expansion schemes. It was recently extended west to increase dining, bar and private dining areas.

David Long MRTPI, BCM’s Planning and Development Partner: “The Hut is not only an excellent destination for food and drink, but it also provides economic and employment benefits to the local community. I am pleased that we have been able to provide Matt and George with a wide range of advice.”
