REPORT 2024/ 25

MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT OF BCIT

As I reflect on the past year, I’m filled with gratitude for the opportunities I’ve had to connect with the exceptional BCIT alumni. It was an honour to recognize the accomplishments of individuals at the 2024 Distinguished Awards in November, and to celebrate alongside many of the BCIT Alumni Association Board Past Presidents. This signature event highlights the profound impact individual BCIT alumni have in uplifting their communities. However, I want to take a moment to recognize your collective contributions, as mentors, volunteers, and donors, which enables student success at BCIT.

Your dedication to BCIT ensures the Institute is an industry leader in education, innovation, industry partnerships, and strategic workforce development. The success of our alumni is a testament to the strength of our programs and the importance of applied, hands-on learning in preparing our learners to meet the labour market needs of tomorrow.

I am excited to share with you some key highlights from the recently released 2025-2030 BCIT Strategic Plan outlining our vision for the future. This plan is grounded in a renewed commitment to drive student success and equip learners with the skills to become leaders we need to ensure our communities thrive. As we adapt through this complex world, we are committed to transforming teaching and learning, catalyzing digital transformation, fostering vibrant and inclusive communities, and enriching partner and industry experiences.

I look forward to the opportunities ahead and the role alumni like you will have in shaping the future of BCIT. Your continued engagement is greatly appreciated as we work together to achieve these goals.

Thank you for your unwavering support and collaboration.

MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT OF THE BCIT ALUMNI ASSOCIATION

In my first year as the President of the BCIT Alumni Association, I am proud of all we have accomplished and am enthusiastic about our future. With over 210,000 alumni worldwide, the BCIT alumni community continues to grow stronger, and it has been an honour to lead our efforts in fostering the success of our members.

We are committed to enhancing the value of engaging with our alumni community, and the response to our efforts has been overwhelmingly positive. Not only have we increased the number of partners on the BCIT Alumni Perks app, offering alumni even more ways to enjoy savings and benefits, but we have expanded the number of in-person events, creating new opportunities for connection and networking. Highlights include the fall alumni social in Langley, where attendees enjoyed a Vancouver Football Club game, and the spring alumni social at the BC Sports Hall of Fame, followed by the Vancouver Whitecaps FC home opener. Additionally, we hosted the inaugural networking workshop, How to Talk to Strangers. These last two events were made possible through the generous sponsorship of our affinity partner, TD Insurance.

I am also incredibly proud to have represented the BCIT Alumni Association as the presenting sponsor at the Distinguished Awards Gala, where we celebrated alumni who have made remarkable contributions and affected positive change in their communities.

As an engaged Alumni Association, we continue to prioritize support for BCIT students. As one of BCIT’s largest and longest-standing donors, since our inception, the Alumni Association has contributed over $1.4 million in philanthropic giving and funded more than 1,158 student awards.

Further, with nearly 43,000 students enrolled annually at BCIT, we understand the importance of enhancing the student experience to help build a resilient future-ready workforce. Thank you to those who provided networking, mentoring, and career preparation opportunities for students to help them thrive in their careers.

The BCIT Alumni Association is grateful for your continued contributions. Your support strengthens our community and inspires future BCIT alumni to strive for excellence.

In the last quarter of 2024 alone, the Food Pantry assisted over 1,500 visits from full-time students, part-time students, and alumni.

The Alumni Association is committed to providing essential support to students in need and will continue to collect Food Pantry donations at every event we host. To learn more about how you can support the BCIT Student Food Pantry, visit bcitsa.ca/wellbeing/food-pantry ∆

Taralynn Reburn, Vice President of Ticket Sales and Service for the Florida Panthers, credits her success to her education at BCIT. Growing up with a love for hockey on Vancouver Island, Taralynn initially pursued broadcast journalism, but discovered her passion for sports sales while enrolled at BCIT’s Radio Arts and Entertainment program.
