SCHOOL OF BUSINESS + MEDIA ACHIEVEMENT AWARDS ∆ IN-TERM ACHIEVEMENT AWARDS Presented to students who achieve outstanding marks in specific first-year courses or who have demonstrated a combination of high academic standing, leadership, service or all-around achievement as selected by faculty. Accounting Student First Year Achievement Award An annual award established in 2021 for students in the Accounting program. Recipient: Robert Cutler, Accounting Baker Tilly WM LLP Award for Highest Marks in Accounting II and Computerized Accounting An annual award established in 1989. Baker Tilly WM LLP is one of the largest independent accounting firms in Greater Vancouver and a member of a network of independent accountancy and business services firms throughout the world. Recipients: Tsz Yan Leung, Accounting Heather Muirhead, Accounting BC Association of Broadcasters Pioneer Fund Award An endowment established in 1994. The BC Association of Broadcasters represents private television and radio broadcasters with the mandate to combine the resources and strength of their industry to promote and contribute to community enhancing programs throughout the province; to present a unified and credible voice in matters that affect their growing industry; and to provide members with information and inspiration. Recipient: Andrea Daignault, Radio Arts and Entertainment BC Hydro Award in Human Resource Management An endowment established in 2001. BC Hydro’s priority is to support BC students who are not only committed to a post secondary education, but who are good examples of how to maintain a healthy life balance. They proudly recognize BC’s future leaders and role models. Recipient: Karen Liang, Human Resource Management BC Marketing and Advertising Award An endowment established in 2009 through the contributions of industry partners—DDB Canada, Inventa Sales & Promotions, and the Advertising Agency Association of BC, as well as private donations from Mr. Richard Hamilton, Ms. Sandra Wilson, and the Bryant Legacy Trust. The award was created to encourage students in the Marketing Management program to pursue a career in Marketing Communications. Recipient: Ana Paula Sanchez Vidalon, Marketing Management— Marketing Communications BCIT International Student Award An endowment established in 1997 by Mr. Tom Simons, former Board of Governors member, and the BCIT International Department. Recipient: Tsz Yan Leung, Accounting

BCIT Marketing Communications Award in Honour of Carroll Nelson An endowment established in 2006 in honour of Carroll Nelson, a BCIT teaching faculty member for 25 years and recipient of the 2005 BCIT Alumni Association Excellence in Teaching Award. She was a former Program Head for Marketing Communications and Direct Response Marketing and, in 1985, worked on re-branding the marketing curriculum and initiated a hugely successful internship program. In 1998, Carroll introduced the first Direct Marketing program in Canada and educated, challenged, mentored and led her students to be the best they can be. Her success is reflected in the widely acknowledged superior performance of BCIT Marketing graduates. Recipient: Nicholas Geyer, Marketing Management—Marketing Communications Bell Media Award An endowment established in 2007 with matching funds from BCIT. The annual interest provides first-year achievement awards to students in Broadcast Radio, Broadcast Television, and Broadcast Journalism programs, with first preference given to students from the BC Peace and Northern BC Regions. Recipients: Kinley Friesen, Television and Video Production Dwiani Indraningsri, Radio Arts and Entertainment Kobie Smith, Broadcast and Online Journalism Best Buy Canada Ltd. Award An endowment award established in 2009. Best Buy is one of Canada’s largest and most successful omni-channel retailers, operating the Best Buy, Best Buy Mobile, and Geek Squad brands. Through community investment, Best Buy Canada and its employees are committed to connecting youth with technology to inspire, motivate and empower their education. Recipient: Ching Yee Kwok, Global Trade and Transportation Management BGIS Award An endowment established in 1998 for students in Automation and Instrumentation, Architectural and Building Engineering Technology, and Financial Management Recipient: Gary Wong, Financial Planning Britco Structures Founders Remi Boddez Memorial Achievement Award An endowment established in 2016 by Rick McClymont and David Taft, Founders of Britco Structures, in memory of Remi Boddez who was a former Manager, Supply Chain/Purchasing at Britco Structures for 25 years. Remi was a strong, independent man who devoted his life to the care, love and teasing of his family and friends. He had a big heart and loved to laugh. He never hesitated to listen, help and provide his wisdom or his opinion whenever it was needed. Recipient: Alfonso III Ileto, Business Operations Management Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce Award in Financial Planning An endowment established in 2002. The Canadian Bank of Commerce (established 1867) and the Imperial Bank of Canada (established 1875) merged to form the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce (CIBC). CIBC is a leading North American financial institution with nearly 11 million personal banking and business clients, with branches and offices across Canada, in the United States, and around the world. Christopher Glover Memorial Award An endowment established in 1997 by the Franklin Woodlands Division of MacMillan Bloedel Ltd. in memory of Christopher Glover, a company employee and first-year Financial Management student, who was tragically killed on July 21, 1997 in a workplace accident. The award is presented to a Financial Management student who exemplifies the spirit of Chris’ sense of responsibility and accountability, sense of humour, fairness, outgoing personality and a desire to do the best he could. Recipient: Priyank Periwal, Finance CIBC Inclusion Achievement Award An annual award established in 2020. CIBC is a leading North American financial institution with nearly 11 million personal banking and business clients, and with branches and offices across Canada, in the United States, and around the world. Recipient: Shayla Potts, Marketing Management - Professional Sales CILTNA Scholarship Award Endowment in Memory of Gordon Payne An endowment established in 2021 in memory of Gordon Payne for his leadership and involvement within the Logistics and Supply Chain Industry. For students in the Global Trade and Transportation Management program. Recipient: Yuan-Hsiang Chen, Global Trade and Transportation Management CITT VAC Founders Award An annual award established in 2014. The Canadian Institute of Transportation (CITT) is Canada’s foremost professional development association in supply chain and logistics. Its programs and services promote excellence and career path development for transportation logisticians through professional certification, professional development, and cooperative networking opportunities. This award is in memory of CITT founding members. The members honoured by this award were pioneers in the field of transportation and logistics. Through their dedication to their chosen profession, and involvement in the Vancouver Area Council, they enriched and informed generations of new logisticians. Recipient: Yasmin Khordbin, Global Trade and Transportation Management D & H Group LLP Accounting Achievement Award An annual award established in 2017. Recipient: Anne Dai, Accounting David B.A. Clarke Memorial Award in Operations Management An annual award established in 2003 in memory of David B. Clarke, sponsored by Elin Clarke, widow, and John Clarke, father. Recipient: Lok Chun Lui, Business Operations Management Dean’s First Year Leadership Award—Business An award established in 2019, for a student in a School of Business + Media full-time program. Recipients: Stefanie LeBlanc, Business Information Technology Management Devony Robertson, Radio Arts and Entertainment

Fingarson-Parliament Achievement Awards An endowment established in 2006 by Lorne and Patricia Fingarson to provide bursaries and awards to students in the School of Business + Media Marketing Management Entrepreneurship program. Lorne was an instructor in the School of Business + Media and Pat (nee Parliament) worked in a variety of departments, including the Technology Centre and President’s Office. Both Lorne and Patricia worked at BCIT for over 20 years. Recipients: Bridget Campbell, Marketing Management—Entrepreneurship Rianna Whitelaw, Marketing Management—Entrepreneurship Gordon Boleen Achievement Award An endowment established in 2020 for students in the International Business Management program. Recipient: Wing Fai Ng, Global Trade and Transportation Management Great Little Box Company/Ideon Packaging Achievement Awards An annual award established in 2017 and presented to a student in their second year of study as recommended by program faculty. The recipients of this award not only achieved academic excellence in their first year of study, but embody the entrepreneurial spirit, exude creativity, shown a passion for giving back, and display an interest in packaging. . Recipients: Alina Chin, Graphic Communications Technology Management Ana Paula Moreno, Graphic Communications Technology Management J.C. (Cliff) McAdam Memorial Award An endowment established in 1993 in memory of J.C. Cliff McAdam, a BCIT employee who passed away in June 1993. He was the first Director of Business Management at BCIT, and went on to be the Vice President of Administration. He then became a faculty member in Financial Management until his retirement. Recipient: Bhavya Gulbadher, Finance Joan A. Harrison Award in Human Resource Management An endowment established in 1995 during her tenure as a member of the BCIT Board of Governors. Recipient: Siu Man Samrina Cheung, Human Resource Management Karen Insley Memorial Award An endowment established in 2013 in memory of Karen Insley, a Marketing Communications graduate. She exhibited great enthusiasm, leadership qualities, passion for her work, and an unending work ethic resulting in her graduating with honours in 2006. Despite a valiant 8-month battle against cancer, Karen passed away in October 2012 at the age of 30. Karen was a wonderful daughter, sister, and friend to many and she was an adored wife to one. Karen’s laughter, sense of propriety, and her incredible work ethic will be missed dearly by all that knew her. It is Karen’s family and friends’ hope that this award will be used to help nurture these similar values in a deserving student each year. Recipient: Dorothy Poon, Marketing Management—Marketing Communications Ken Brambleby Memorial Award in Communication An endowment established in 1992 by the Communication Department honouring Ken Brambleby, a founding member of the department. The recipient is a returning student who has demonstrated excellent communication skills in the first year of his or her studies. Recipient: Robert Cutler, Accounting Ken Garrett Memorial Award in Radio An endowment established in 1987 by CKNW, family, and friends in memory of Ken Garrett, a Radio Option student killed in a canoeing accident. Ken is the son of CKNW broadcaster George Garrett. Recipient: Bryce Taylor, Radio Arts and Entertainment

Leavitt Machinery Achievement of Excellence Awards Annual awards established in 2004. Leavitt Machinery, a proud employer of many BCIT Grads over the years, acknowledges the hard work and determination it takes to be successful at BCIT. Leavitt Machinery sells, rents, leases, and provides aftermarket support for materials handling and high reach equipment. With branches throughout, BC, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Washington, and Oregon, Leavitt Machinery will continue to lean on BCIT Grads for growth. Recipients: Joshua Pratt, Marketing Management - Professional Sales Brendan Sadhra, Marketing Management - Professional Sales Michael Josh Tolentino, Business Operations Management Ledcor 60th Anniversary Awards An endowment established in 2008 to commemorate 60 years of construction excellence. Employee-owned with a broad portfolio throughout North America, the Ledcor Group of Companies was founded in 1947 with roots firmly planted in the ”oil patch”. Ledcor expanded geographically and diversified into the building and industrial sectors, with six construction divisions—Commercial Building, Heavy Civil, Industrial, Mining, Pipeline, and Telecommunications. Recipients: Piyanshu Gumber, Accounting Tiyana O’dwyer, Accounting LG 104.3 FM Achievement Award in Journalism An endowment established in 1995. LG 104.3 FM is owned by Astral Media, Canada’s largest radio broadcaster with 82 licensed radio stations in eight provinces. Recipient: Sin Yee Chow, Radio Arts and Entertainment Linda and Allan Stefanson Memorial Awards An endowment established in 2011 through the estate of Linda Stefanson, a 2004 graduate of BCIT’s Computer Systems Technology. Recipients: Guangxin Guo, Bachelor of Accounting Lisa Lachance-Hoffman, Bachelor of Accounting Mohammed Janab, Bachelor of Accounting Kyla King, Bachelor of Accounting Guanting Liu, Bachelor of Accounting Xiao Li Wang, Bachelor of Accounting Marie and Keith Stevenson Memorial Award in Tourism Management An endowment established in 2011 through the estate of Linda Stefanson, a 2004 graduate of BCIT’s Computer Systems Technology. Recipient: Taylor Mackenzie-Gillespie, Marketing Management—Tourism Management Michael K. Thurston High Flight Memorial Awards in Journalism An endowment was established in 2002 by Mary Kay Thurston in memory of her husband Michael who was killed in a helicopter accident on November 8, 2001. The award is a tribute to Michael’s values. His love of flying and Mary Kay’s love of teaching are the heart and soul of this award. Mike Cowan Memorial Award in Radio An endowment established in 1996 by the parents of Mike Cowan, a student in the BCIT Radio program. In remembrance of his creativity, the award recognizes this attribute in the recipient as well as all-around achievement. Recipient: Gilbert Jose Dela Cruz, Radio Arts and Entertainment Molson Canada Award in Marketing Communications An endowment established in 1992. John Molson founded Canada’s oldest brewery on the banks of the St. Lawrence River in Montreal in 1786. It operates six breweries across the country, and invests in communities from coast-to-coast through involvement in various charitable initiatives and sports and entertainment sponsorships. Recipient: Stephen McGovern, Marketing Management—Marketing Communications New Country 93.7 JRFM and 100.5 The PEAK Award in memory of “Rocket” Rochelle Dentry & Greg Sher An endowment established in 1992 by CHRX Radio, a division of Jim Pattison Industries, in memory of Rochelle Dentry, Co-host of the CHRX Morning Show, and Greg Sherrett, Music Director of JR Country. Recipient: Christopher Georges, Radio Arts and Entertainment Nigel A. Dodds, Dipl. T. (HONS), B.B.A. Memorial Award An endowment established in 2005 by the Dodds family and friends, with matching funds from BCIT, in memory of BCIT alumni Nigel Dodds who graduated with honours from BCIT’s Transportation Logistics program in 1994. Nigel was tragically killed in a plane crash on November 20, 1999. The award is intended for a student who embodies the characteristics that were important to Nigel team spirit, leadership, honesty, and integrity. Recipient: Caroline Sugianto, Global Trade and Transportation Management Olympic Industries ULC Award of Excellence An annual award established in 2016. Olympic Industries is an international forest products trading company that was established in 1972. With annual sales surpassing $400 million, they are one of the top private businesses in BC. They specialize in innovative supply chain solutions for all markets and are a subsidiary of Forest City Trading Group, LLC. Recipient: Sidrah Umar, Marketing Management—Professional Sales OMNI Television Award in Broadcast Journalism An endowment established in 2010. OMNI Television is a leading provider of ethno-cultural television programming. Recipient: Gyungsoo Park, Broadcast and Online Journalism Peter Campin Memorial Award An annual award established in 2014 with contributions from students, faculty, staff, and Peter’s parents. Peter was a well-loved and valued member of the BCIT community who passed away too soon. His passion for his profession and students will not be forgotten. Recipient: Mariessa Pinto, Digital Design and Developmen Peter Oostlander Award An endowment established in 2007. Peter Oostlander worked at Hemlock Printers prior to joining BCIT’s Business faculty. He actively supported and taught the Estimating course in the Graphic Communication Technology program. He retired from BCIT and the industry in 2009. Printed in Canada Award An endowment established in 2004 by Julia Blockberger, Chair of the BCIT Board of Governors 2001-2005, in memory of her late husband R.J. (Dick) Blockberger, President of Broadway Printers and a Past Chair of the Canadian Print Industries Association. It was his firm belief that all print purchases in every field of endeavour should be “Printed in Canada”. Recipient: Willow Browne, Graphic Communications Technology Management PrintForward, Printing & Imaging Association—Lorne Patterson Memorial Awards This first year achievement award, established in 2017, is in memory of Lorne Patterson, a long-time active member of PrintForward, a successful business owner, and an engaged leader in the printing industry for more than 34 years. Lorne’s focus was always on quality, efficiency, and results. This award will be provided to an individual in the Graphic Communications Technology Management program who demonstrates similar characteristics. Recipients: Rachel Cheung, Graphic Communications Technology Management Tanner Hockey, Graphic Communications Technology Management Real Estate Council of British Columbia Award in Professional Real Estate An endowment established in 1986. The Real Estate Council of BC is a regulatory agency established by the provincial government to protect the public interest by enforcing the licensing and licensee conduct requirements of the Real Estate Services Act. The Council is responsible for licensing individuals and brokerages engaged in real estate sales, rental and strata property management. The Council also enforces entry qualifications, investigates complaints against licensees and imposes disciplinary sanctions under the Act. Recipients: Megan Upper, Marketing Management Professional Real Estate Red Robinson Achievement Award for Excellence in Radio Broadcasting An annual award was established by Red Robinson in 1988. In 2001, he created an endowment that continues to fund his awards each year. Red Robinson started working as a disc jockey at the age of 16, while still in high school. He was one of the first DJs to play Elvis Presley, Buddy Holly, and other rock and roll artists on a regular basis in Canada. Over the years, Robinson worked at many radio and TV stations in Vancouver and Portland, Oregon. In 1997, Robinson was elected to the Canadian Broadcast Hall of Fame. Recipient: Sophie Elise Tomei, Radio Arts and Entertainment RGF Integrated Wealth Management Award An annual first-year achievement award established in 2020 by RGF Integrated Wealth Management. We are committed to helping students reach their full potential and believe that supporting individuals pursue a career path as a professional financial planner is key to the advancement of our industry. This scholarship is awarded to a student who demonstrates high academic standing as well as extra-curricular involvement within BCIT, community involvement and/or communication capabilities. Ricoh Canada Inc. Awards Annual awards established in 2008. Ricoh Canada Inc. services the office equipment and document management needs of clients in Canada through 40 satellite offices. With 1,500 employees across the country, Ricoh is one of the most comprehensive service and support organizations in Canada. Recipients: Julius Elias Jr Conanan, Graphic Communications Technology Management Chanelle McPhee, Marketing Management - Professional Sales Katerina Nitz, Marketing Management - Professional Sales Rob Hagen Memorial Award in Professional Sales An annual award established in 2004 by family, friends and colleagues of Rob Hagen, a 1981 graduate of BCIT’s Marketing Management program, who passed away in 2000. Recipient: Benchawan Klinfung, Marketing Management—Professional Sales Stowe School Awards An endowment established anonymously in 1997. Recipients: Raphael Cardenas, Television and Video Production Abbagale Francis, Broadcast and Online Journalism Jordan Wong, Radio Arts and Entertainment UDI Development Industry Award An endowment established in 2007 by former BCIT Board Chair Maureen Enser which provides first-year achievement awards for students in any eligible, full-time construction-related program at BCIT. The Urban Development Institute (UDI) is a national non-profit association of the development industry and its related professions, concentrating its activities on government relations, professional development and education, and research. Recipient: Alina Malik, Human Resource Management Vancouver Executives’ Association Awards An endowment established in 1984. The Vancouver Executives Association (VanEx) is a premiere networking group in Vancouver. Since 1920, its members have committed to supplying quality, reputable goods and services to the Greater Vancouver marketplace and beyond. It is one of the longest-standing business associations in Vancouver. Recipients: Greyson Dube, Business Management Danijela Kazulin, Human Resource Management Zoom Media Inc. Awards An endowment established in 1998. Zoom Media is the largest targeted lifestyle media in Canada, offering advertisers innovative out-ofhome media solutions, reaching distinct target audiences in specific environments. Recipients: Dung Huynh, Marketing Management—Marketing Communications Leanne Kim, Marketing Management—Marketing Communications The Gordon Bell Memorial Award In Business Management An endowment established in 1980 by family, friend and colleagues in memory of Gordon Bell, Chief Instructor of the Administrative Management program. Recipient: Tsz Yui Andromeda Wong, Business Management


The Britco Structures, Alexander Podulsky Memorial Award An endowment established in 1993 and renamed in 2009 to honor the memory of Britco employee and BCIT Alumni Alexander Podulsky (Financial Management - Taxation 1995). Britco Structures, a Canadian Partnership, was established in 1977 and is now the largest designer and manufacturer of custom-built mobile & modular buildings in the Pacific Northwest. Recipients: Yi Yang, Graphic Communications Faye Zuvun, Graphic Communications The Lauren Sewell Memorial Entrance Award An endowment was established in 2013 by Greg and Fran Sewell in memory of their daughter Lauren, who had just completed the first year of BCIT’s Human Resource Management diploma program when she was tragically killed in a small plane crash near Peachland, B.C. on August 13, 2012 at the age of 24. Lauren was a loving, dedicated and caring person who enjoyed helping her fellow classmates and others. This award was created by her parents as a perpetual legacy in her memory, for aspiring students entering the full-time Human Resources Management diploma program who are coming to BCIT after a minimum of 1-2 years of fulltime employment in the workforce following graduation from high school, and who demonstrate the caring traits exemplified by Lauren Sewell during her short life. Leah J. Geosits Memorial Award An endowment fund established in 2002 by family, friends and colleagues in memory of Leah Janet Geosits who passed away February 16, 2002 at the age of 35 after an inspiring and valiant battle with cancer. Leah graduated with honours from the BCIT Computer Systems program in 1986 and had a successful career with the Vancouver Stock Exchange. She married Brian Pynn (1990 BCIT Broadcast Communications graduate) in 1995 and had two children. She was a special lady who is fondly remembered for her kind heart, mischievous eyes, illuminating smile, and invincible spirit. Debbe was known for her spontaneity, sense of fun, her ability to instill enthusiasm in her students and for her strong support of women pursuing non-traditional, scientific, and technical careers. Her untimely death from cancer in 1999 was a loss not only for family and friends, but also for BCIT faculty and students. Recipient: Patricia Pragides, Software Systems Developer The David Lloyd Entrance Awards An endowment established in 1993 by Mr. Aleth (Al) Lloyd and School District #46 - Sunshine Coast, with matching funds from the Government of BC. Al Lloyd, a dedicated Pender Harbour resident who passed away in 1999 established the award in honour of his son, David. BC Building Envelope Council, Tom Morstead Memorial Award An award established in 2012 in memory of Tom Morstead. The BCBEC Foundation was established in 2006 from a surplus in the BC Building Envelope Council operating budget. BCBEC is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing a platform for proponents of the building industry to discuss issues and exchange information on building envelope issues. The purpose of the foundation is to provide scholarships for postsecondary students and apprentices who excel in the study of building envelope design, construction and technology. Recipient: Andebet Zegeye, Masters of Applied Science in Building Engineering/Building Science BC Land Surveyors Foundation, Gerry Andrews Memorial Award An endowment established in 1996 and renamed in 2006 in honour of Gerry Andrews, the longest serving survey general in BC (1951–1968). Gerry was a specialist in the development of air photo intelligence and photogrammetry. He had a significant role in developing the Eagle V cameras and in the advance surveys of the Normandy beaches during World War II. He was a teacher, forester, surveyor, engineer, author, artist, and the recipient of both the Order of British Columbia and the Order of Canada. Recipient: Cecilia Ratke, Geomatics Engineering Technology BC Land Surveyors Foundation, Ray Chapman Memorial Award An endowment established in 2007 by the Association of BC Land Surveyors to honour Ray Chapman, BCLS #270, who received his commission after the war in 1946. He served on the Board of Management of the Corporation of BC Land Surveyors, was president in 1963, and was made a life member in 1981. He worked as a BC Land Surveyor for 61 years. Ray’s son Bill, also a land surveyor, suggests that if his dad was present today, he probably would encourage students to practice the simple rules that go hand-in-hand with the land surveyors’ oath—to stay true, be honest to yourself, never deviate from sound survey practice, do not cut corners to save a dollar, finish your jobs, treat your employees fairly, and be sensitive and wise with your clients. Recipient: Konrad Balzer, Bachelor of Science in Geomatics BC Land Surveyors Foundation, W.N. Papove Sr. Memorial Award An endowment established in 2007 by the Association of BC Land Surveyors to honour Bill Papove (BCLS #266) who became a BC Land Surveyor in 1941, a Dominion Land Surveyor in 1945, and an Alberta Land Surveyor in 1946. He was also qualified as a Professional Engineer in BC and in Washington State. In his early career he worked on hydroelectric projects in BC, Saskatchewan, and the North West Territories. He completed a major survey of the right of way for the Alaska Highway and was involved in the BC/Alberta/Territories boundaries and the land settlement surveys of the Doukobour lands in the Kootenays. He was also chief surveyor for the Meekong River mapping project in the early 1960s and was on various consulting missions to South America and Africa on behalf of the Federal Government and United Nations agencies. Bill was chair of the BCIT Surveying Advisory Committee in the early 1970s and was elected a life member of the Association of BC Land Surveyors in 1978. BC Land Surveyors, G.M. Thomson Citizenship Award Established in 2013, the BC Land Surveyors Foundation, G.M. Thomson Citizenship Award is an annual in-term achievement award for a student in the Bachelor of Science in Geomatics degree program, based on achievement in levels three through six, and citizenship criteria that mirror Mr. Thomson’s greatest personal attributes—providing leadership, contributing freely to others, and exceeding reasonable expectations, with selection by the program faculty. The recipient would typically be known to be a helpful mentor and supporter of fellow students, would promote the program, and be generally recognized as a student leader with strong personal character traits. The Canadian Hydrographic Association (CHA) is a non-profit, scientific and technical group which embraces the disciplines of hydrographic surveying, marine cartography, marine geodesy, offshore exploration, and tidal current studies. Dogwood Award An endowment established in 1987 by Dave Hume, former BCIT project coordinator. Recipient: Ryan Pinette, Geomatics Engineering Technology Fraser River Pile & Dredge (GP) Inc. Award An endowment established in 2006. Fraser River Pile and Dredge (GP) Inc. (FRPD) was incorporated in Alberta in 2008, and is a successor company to Fraser River Pile Driving Company (founded in 1911). FRPD is Canada’s largest marine construction and dredging contractor. They are privately owned with operations mainly in Western Canada and in the Northwest Territories. FRPD completes all types and sizes of marine construction, environmental remediation, dredging, and land foundation projects. Recipient: Cecilia Ratke, Geomatics Engineering Technology George Bedwell Memorial Award An endowment established in 1997 by the Bedwell family in memory of George Bedwell, former Surveying and Mapping instructor. Don’s legacy of academic and work achievements in fisheries biology and habitat restoration included many innovations in fisheries management. Don strongly believed in educating and training the next generation of fisheries biologists. The HCTF-McCubbing Scholarships are available for BCIT students pursuing studies in fisheries biology and/or aquatic ecosystem habitat restoration. Jim cared for his students a great deal and received great satisfaction in seeing them succeed at school and later in their careers. Ledcor 60th Anniversary Awards An endowment established in 2008 to commemorate 60 years of construction excellence. Employee-owned, with a broad portfolio throughout North America, the Ledcor Group of Companies was founded in 1947 with roots firmly planted in the “oil patch”. Ledcor expanded geographically and diversified into the building and industrial sectors, with six construction divisions—Commercial Building, Heavy Civil, Industrial, Mining, Pipeline, and Telecommunications. Recipients: Cristian Arias Rasuk, Architectural and Building Technology John Chrisler Young, Architectural and Building Technology Ledcor Construction Limited Award An annual award established in 2006 is presented to a student in the Architectural and Building Engineering Technology program who is entering the Economics Construction Operations option in second year. Recipient: Travis Bruce, Architectural and Building Technology Ledcor Group of Companies, Trevor Korol Memorial Awards An endowment established in 2012 in memory of Trevor Korol, who was a valued employee with Ledcor Group of Companies. Tragically, Trevor passed away in a plane crash in March 2008. This endowment was set up by his colleagues to honour his memory and provides an in-term award to a Civil Engineering student who has displayed academic achievement and involvement /leadership in the community and amongst his/her peers. Recipients: Huai Jie Chen, Bachelor of Engineering in Civil Engineering Shaun Creaney, Bachelor of Engineering in Civil Engineering Joshua Secrieru, Bachelor of Engineering in Civil Engineering Mark Angelo Award An endowment established in 2013. It was funded principally by the Real Estate Foundation of BC, alumni, friends, and colleagues of Mark Angelo in his honour. Mark was a long-standing employee of BCIT, who retired in 2011 after 37 years of service. The purpose of the fund is to provide financial support to students who embody the ideals that define Mark Angelo: integrity, ethics, good citizenship, and concern for our environment, friends, and family. Recipient: Nisali Wijesinghe, Fish, Wildlife and Recreation Marshall J. Heinekey Civil Engineering Award An endowment established in 1994 by Marshall Heinekey, longtime employee and supporter of BCIT. Mr. Heinekey graduated from BCIT in Civil and Structural Technology in 1975 and spent 30 years in various roles at BCIT. He was an instructor, a director, and dean. He also took on the role of acting Vice President of Education until his retirement in 2006. During his tenure, he helped implement national accreditation for 21 BCIT programs and was instrumental in establishing BCIT’s Civil Engineering program as the first Bachelor of Engineering credential at BCIT. His lifelong passion for supporting students is represented by this award. Northern Group of British Columbia Land Surveyors Scholarships An annual award established in 2018 by the Northern Group of British Columbia Land Surveyors with matching funds from the Career and Public Awareness Committee of the Association of British Columbia Land Surveyors. Recipient: Nicolas Cain, Bachelor of Science in Geomatics Philip Gardner Memorial Awards Philip was someone who could be described, in the construction industry, as a master builder. Philip was hard working, honest, and a supreme problem solver, who was passionate about striving for excellence in all that he did. His dedication to his craft of building is exemplified by the many people he mentored along the way. This award is given to the second-year BCIT student in the Civil and Structural program who best exhibits Philip’s traits of leadership, ability to problem solve, is honest, and is dedicated to his/her craft. Whether it’s as part of a design team for new construction projects or working with a condominium owner group to plan for the renewal of building systems after 30 years of service, its focus is on helping clients make informed decisions that lead to durable and effective buildings. The annual interest provides a FirstYear Scholarship and Graduating Award to students in the Fish, Wildlife and Recreation program. The Structural Engineers Association of British Columbia (SEABC) is an association that promotes the interests of structural engineers in BC. Funding for this award is provided by the SEABC Certificate in Structural Engineering program. Recipient: Joseph Epp, Bachelor of Engineering in Civil Engineering Taseko Mines Limited Award An endowment established in 2006. Taseko Mines Limited focused on operating and developing copper and gold mines. Its key assets, all located in BC, are: the Gibraltar Copper-Molybdenum Mine, the advanced stage Prosperity gold-copper project, and the Harmony gold project. Tom Reed Memorial Award An annual award to a deserving student in Civil Engineering or the Construction Management program. Tom Reed worked in the BC road construction industry for 38 years. A self-taught leader who attended BCIT for professional upgrading, Tom led many of the major improvements to public roadways, bridges, and parkways in Metro Vancouver. Tom’s commitment to team work, performance, and excellence was recognized by industry. This annual award is a tribute to Tom’s many contributions to BC’s construction industry and is intended to support students preparing to start a career in construction. Recipient: Gene He, Civil Engineering Transoft Solutions Awards An annual award established in 2016. A first-year achievement award is available to a student in the Civil Engineering program at BCIT. Transoft Solutions is an international leader in the development of innovative software for the transportation engineering design sector. A strong believer in educating tomorrow’s leaders, Transoft has established this award to further develop the field of civil engineering. The Urban Development Institute is a national non-profit association of the development industry and its related professions, concentrating its activities in government relations, professional development and education, and research. Recipient: Yeoneui Kim, Bachelor of Architectural Science Vancouver Regional Construction Association Awards in Economics/ Construction Operations Annual awards established in 1969, and an endowment created in 1995. The VRCA began in 1929 and represents general contractors, specialty trade contractors, manufacturers, suppliers, and professionals active in the construction industry in the Lower Mainland and Fraser Valley. VRCA members are involved in all size operations from multi-national corporations to small owner/operator businesses. Its mandate is to practice sustainable forest management on the woodlot for the benefit of BCIT students and the public at large. This is an active woodlot where normal forestry operations occur, providing training programs and ongoing studies and research. Zoe’s love for the mountains and forests of her North Shore backyard inspired her to pursue a career where she could contribute to protecting wild spaces. This award was created through the efforts of Zoe’s family, friends, and classmates and is presented to a Fish, Wildlife and Recreation student who demonstrates academic excellence and embodies Zoe’s spirit with a lifestyle that takes time to appreciate the outdoors. Recipient: Sofie Vielfaure, Fish, Wildlife and Recreation DIALOG Women in Architectural & Building Technology Achievement Award An award established in 2023 to support women in the Architectural and Building Technology program. Recipient: Alejandra Loaiza Granda, Architectural and Building Technology The BC Building Envelope Council Education Foundation Award An award established in 2008. BCBEC is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing a platform for proponents of the building industry to discuss issues and exchange information on building envelope issues. Recipient: Jaspreet Bhuller, Architectural and Building Technology The Society for Canadian Women in Science and Technology, Margaret Lowe Benston Memorial Award An endowment established in 1986 and renamed in 1991, in honor of Dr. Benston, a founding member and well-known chemist, computer scientist, theorist and activist. The Architectural Foundation of BC Award for Excellence An annual award established in 2021. The award is for students within the School of Construction and the Environment specific to the Architectural Science Degree program. Award is given to students based on their participation within the program, their leadership skills, and academics. Recipient: Gavin Horn, Bachelor of Architectural Science The Terry Mulligan Memorial Award An annual award established in 2017, the Terry Mulligan Memorial Award is an achievement award that is presented to second year students in the Mineral Exploration & Mining Technology program or the Mining & Mineral Resource Engineering program who, best exemplifies the spirit and passion of Terry Mulligan, past-President & CEO of the Mining Suppliers Association of B.C. (MSABC). Each year, the award recipient will be an engaging student who will not only have good academic standing but will also have had made a positive contribution to the broader campus life. This student will have a positive outlook on life, good sense of humour and be an example to their peers. Recipient: Jaxon Reid, Bachelor of Engineering in Mining & Mineral Resource Engineering The BCLS Foundation Women in Geomatics Award An annual award established in 2018, this award is given to a female student in the Geomatics Engineering Technology program intending to enter the second year of the program. Preference is given to students who show good character and a strong interest in pursuing a career in land surveying. Award An annual award established in 1981 and is now funded through an endowment created in 1991. Jacobs is one of the world’s largest and most diverse providers of professional technical services. They offer full-spectrum support to industrial, commercial, and government clients across multiple markets. Services include scientific and specialty consulting as well as all aspects of engineering and construction, and operations and maintenance. Recipient: Tan Quoc Le, Geomatics Engineering Technology The John Salisbury Memorial Award An endowment established in 2011 by Mr. John Salisbury. John was a long-time resident of Madeira Park, BC on the Sunshine Coast and, although a very private individual, was a bit of an icon in the community. He passed away in September 2011 at the age of 85 years. As his close friends, John and Barb van Tongeren, stated “he is a man of few words with a great sense of humour”. During his life, Mr. Salisbury was involved in a number of professions, including plumbing, real estate investment and mining. He was also a partner in Empire Auto Parts in Surrey, BC. His miner’s license number was 89866 and he worked in the Yukon doing diamond drilling. It was the education he received at BCIT taking night school courses in Mining during the 1970’s and his great memories of former Mining instructor “Moose” Manifold that were his prime reasons for establishing the John Salisbury Endowment to support students in BCIT’s Mining program. The PDAC is a national association that represents the interests of the Canadian mineral exploration and development industry. Recipient: Afshin Shirvani, Mineral Exploration and Mining Technology

ENTRANCE AWARDS Entrance Awards are presented to students entering BCIT technology or trades programs. Selection is based on high academic standing in high school or post-secondary studies, the applicant’s participation in school or community activities, and specific donor criteria. Allan G. Goodbrand Memorial Entrance Award An endowment established in 1996 by family, friends and colleagues of Allan Goodbrand, a well-known, respected, and charismatic businessman in the construction and land development industries. Recipient: Harman Sandhu, Civil Engineering BC Housing Entrance Award An endowment established in 2009. BC Housing is the provincial agency that develops, manages, and administers a wide range of subsidized housing options across the province. Over 95,000 households in about 200 communities across BC benefit from government-subsidized housing. Recipient: Harmen Grewal, Architectural and Building Technology BCIT Alumni Association Entrance Awards An endowment established in 1986 by the BCIT Alumni Association. The endowment continues to grow through yearly gifts from alumni who support the Alumni Association’s goal of recognizing and supporting students. Britch Class of ’68 Awards The Britch Class of ’68 award was established in Oct, 2020 by Clifford Britch, a BCIT Mining Technology Graduate, to provide financial support to two applicants to any of the two year Engineering or Natural Resources programs. Preference will be given to applicants from smaller communities of under 50,000 population outside the lower mainland and one female applicant. Recipient: Leah Lauren, Civil Engineering Canfor Trades and Technology Entrance Award Annual awards established in 2012 for students entering Sustainable Resource Management, Electrical, Millwright, or Heavy Mechanical Trades Foundation programs. Canfor Corp. is an integrated forest products company based in Vancouver. The majority of their operations are in BC and Alberta with other operations in Quebec and the southern United States. Recipient: Chelsea Murphy, Forest and Natural Areas Management Construction Industry Training Organization of BC Award An endowment established in 2016 with funds from the Construction Industry Training Organization of BC. The interest provides an award for a student in one of the construction foundation programs at BCIT. Recipient: Eliana Khoo, Welder Foundation Ken Bell Memorial Entrance Award Sponsored by Onni Group An endowment established in 2013 in memory of Mr. Ken Bell by the Onni Corporation and his family and friends. Mr. Bell worked with Onni Corporation for many years and this fund is a tribute to his legacy of hard work, kindness, and mentorship. Over the years, Ken hired dozens of graduates from the BCIT Architectural and Building Engineering Technology program and, as a manager, gave much of his time to help turn those hires into first rate professionals. Throughout his life, he helped guide those who followed his footsteps, just as others helped him. This award echoes that spirit and honours the generosity of a man who never forgot where he came from. Kloss Entrance Awards An endowment established in 1990 in honor of Otto Kloss, a contractor who left significant funds in his will to the Pacific Foundation of Applied Technology. In entering the trades, Saoirse had the support of family and friends to resist and rise above the challenges of class, gender discrimination and homophobia. Through this award Saoirse’s legacy lives on, enabling and inspiring other women to live their lives authentically and courageously. These awards support students pursuing programs such as Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and various other technical disciplines at BCIT, empowering students in these fields. Recipient: Caleb Banman, Mineral Exploration and Mining Technology The West Fraser Award for Trades An endowment established by West Fraser. The West Fraser Award for Trades supports female and Indigenous students pursuing trade programs including Architectural and Structural CADD, Boilermaker, Carpentry, Electrical, and more. Caters to residence of areas where West Fraser operates, such as Lower Mainland/Fraser Valley, Quesnel, Williams Lake, and others. Recipient: Lily Chycoski, Cabinetmaker (Joiner) Foundation The Y.P. Heung Foundation Entrance Awards The Y.P. An annual award established in 2014. Y.P. Heung immigrated to Canada in the 1960s. PRESIDENT’S ENTRANCE AWARDS BCIT President’s Entrance Awards are available to students who have graduated from a BC secondary school during the period of September 2019 to June 2020. The selection of candidates is based on an evaluation of academic achievement, participation and contribution to school activities, leadership, and citizenship, as well as volunteer and/ or community service. Scholarship An endowment established in 2006. Fraser River Pile and Dredge (GP) Inc. (FRPD) was incorporated in Alberta in 2008, and is a successor company to Fraser River Pile Driving Company (founded in 1911). FRPD is Canada’s largest marine construction and dredging contractor. They are privately owned with operations mainly in Western Canada and in the Northwest Territories. FRPD completes all types and sizes of marine construction, environmental remediation, dredging, and land foundation projects. Recipient: Marina Heisel, Civil Engineering WSP Canada Inc. and Gulf Canada Resources Limited, David Letkeman and David Utz Memorial Scholarship An endowment was established in 1991 by Waberski Darrow Survey Group and Gulf Canada Resources Limited, with matching funds from the Government of British Columbia. The endowment was established to honour the memory of Waberski Darrow Survey Group employees David Letkeman and David Utz who were killed in a helicopter crash in 1990. In 2007, Waberski Darrow was purchased by Focus Corporation. The annual interest provides a first year achievement award to a student in the Geomatics Technology in memory of David Letkeman and David Utz. BC Hydro Awards An annual award established in 2008. BC Hydro’s primary business activities are the generation and distribution of electricity. It is the third largest electric utility in Canada, and endeavours to provide energy solutions to its customers in an environmentally and socially responsible way by balancing British Columbians’ energy needs with the concerns of the environment. He had completed two years of BCIT’s Mechanical Engineering Technology program when he was in a fatal automobile accident in his hometown of Port Alberni on July 11, 2007, where he was spending the summer working for the Sproat Lake Marine Patrol. Gordon was a well-known and popular resident of Nisga’a House at BCIT’s Maquinna Residence for two years. This award was established by his family in loving memory of their son and brother. Recipient: Kiran Brar, Mechanical Engineering Technology - Mechanical Systems Heather Mathieson Memorial Award An endowment established in 2006 by the faculty, family, friends, and colleagues in memory of Heather Mathieson. She worked at BCIT for 18 years in the School of Manufacturing, Electronics and Industrial Processes and was greatly respected by all who knew and worked with her. She was diagnosed with and battled breast cancer before passing away in 2005. This fund honours the memory of Heather and her love of academia. Angela had a very positive influence on the education of a great number of student nurses during her 17 years as a faculty member. Her memorial fund honours the contributions of a dedicated nurse, educator, colleague, and friend. Cao Foundation Achievement Award Established by Anna Zhang of the Cao Foundation in 2019, the award is intended for outstanding students in Food Technology. As a BCIT alumna, Anna wishes to see greater recognition of the importance of food technology in the industry. Recipient: Kelly-Marie Rampersad, Food Technology CIPHI, BC Branch, Bob Herbison Memorial Award An endowment established in 1997 to honour Bob Herbison’s work as a lifetime member. CIPHI advances science and the field of Environmental Public Health through certification, advocacy, education, and setting of standards. They protect the health of Canadians and represent Environmental Public Health professionals across Canada. Recipient: Gurneet Khun Khun, Bachelor of Environmental Public Health Daphne Sabourin Memorial Award for Excellence in Bedside Nursing An endowment established in 1997 by James Sabourin in memory of his wife who passed away in January 1996 at the age of 72. She often commented on the loving care and quality of bedside nursing she received, which helped prompt James to perpetuate her memory by assisting students who have demonstrated high achievement in bedside nursing care during their training at BCIT. Recipient: Lisa Wilson, Bachelor of Science in Nursing Elizabeth D. Mackie Memorial Awards An endowment established in 1996 by Margaret Pringle in memory of her sister. Elizabeth (“Betty”) had gone to school at the VGH Nursing School. After passing her finals to become an RN, she was told she had contracted tuberculosis and could not attend her graduation ceremony. She spent two years in hospital and was never able to practice nursing. She married Jim Mackie who was a paraplegic, an athlete, and an inventor. When Miss. Pringle passed away in 2004, she bequeathed a substantial sum to the endowment. It was very important to Miss. Pringle that the recipients demonstrate a caring attitude. Keith Scott Memorial Award An endowment established in 1987 with contributions from Medical Laboratory Technicians, clinical staff, family, and friends in memory of Keith Ernest Scott. Born in Alberta in 1942, Keith passed away in an airplane accident near the Prince George airport on October 2, 1986. His family wishes all recipients of this award the very best in their futures. Recipient: Bryan Dawson, Biomedical Engineering Technology Linda Cope Memorial Endowment This endowment was established in 2019 in memory of Linda Cope, a former BCIT alumna (1974). The income from the endowment provides for an annual in-term achievement award which is given to a secondor third-year student in the BCIT Medical Laboratory Science program. This award recognizes a student’s academic excellence and all-round achievement. Linda dedicated herself to sharing her knowledge and expertise in transfusion medicine through the training and mentorship of fellow transfusion laboratory technicians throughout her career. She is remembered for her passion to the profession and dedication to technical excellence in blood transfusion. This award honours and recognizes the importance of having well trained and skilled laboratory technicians in the community. Recipient: Brent Ludwig, Medical Laboratory Science London Drugs 60th Anniversary Award An endowment established in 2007. London Drugs is 100% Canadian owned with a focus on local customers’ satisfaction. Across Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, and BC, London Drugs’ 75 stores employ more than 7,000 staff dedicated to providing customers with a superior shopping experience. Recipient: Krystyna Phillips, Bachelor of Science in Nursing Margaret Sage Nursing Award This award was established in 2020 by Margaret Sage’s family. Margaret’s nursing ambitions began at a very young age as she followed in her mother’s footsteps. Margaret graduated from Burnaby South High School and she enrolled in the Vancouver General School of Nursing. Margaret spent her 35-year career at Royal Columbian Hospital working in labour and delivery. She continued to upgrade herself by taking additional courses at BCIT. This scholarship is awarded to a student who shows the compassion and commitment to being a nurse like her. Recipient: Erica Ahrabi, Bachelor of Science in Nursing Marion Stevenson Memorial Award An endowment established in 2010 by BCIT Foundation Board Member and CEO of Ritchie Bros. Auctioneers, Peter Blake, in honour of his wife Leslie’s grandmother. This endowment was inspired by the support that Marion Stevenson provided to her granddaughter Leslie while she was attaining her RN and BSN from the University of Alberta, then her master’s degree from Adler School of Psychology. Recipient: Megan Evans, Bachelor of Science in Nursing Pacific Blue Cross Kenneth Martin Award An annual award established in 2015 by Pacific Blue Cross (PBC), BC’s largest and most trusted provider of health, dental, and travel benefits. This award is named in honour of retired CEO, Kenneth Martin, in recognition of his contributions to PBC over his longstanding tenure. This award is provided to students in Health Life Sciences programs who have demonstrated leadership and community involvement. William E. Noel Memorial Award An endowment established in 1982 by Bill Noel, former Department Head of Medical Imaging, and his wife Pat. Bill was with the Royal Canadian Navy and served in the Pacific during WWII. He was a longtime member of the Burnaby Power and Sale Squadron and actively involved in teaching new boaters. Alumni, friends, and colleagues have honoured Bill’s memory through donations to the William E. Noel Endowment Fund. Recipient: Lucy Fleming, Nuclear Medicine The BCIT Pioneers Club Award An endowment established in 1996 by the founding staff and faculty of BCIT. Recipient: Greg DeLong, Biomedical Engineering Technology The Don Guthrie Memorial Award An endowment established in 1998 by family, friends and former students in memory of Don Guthrie, a long-time instructor in BCIT’s Fish, Wildlife and Recreation program. Recipient: Odin Lithgow, Biomedical Engineering Technology The Frank Dillon Memorial Award An endowment established in 1994 by family, friends and colleagues of Frank Dillon, owner and manager of J.A. Pentland Ltd. Recipient: Olivia Francis, Prosthetics and Orthotics The Mabel and Arnet Pentland First Year Achievement Awards A endowment was established in 1991 with matching funds from the Government of British Columbia. The interest from this endowment provides annual bursaries and first year achievement awards to students in Prosthetics and Orthotics. Mr. Pentland was a former member of the BCIT Prosthetics and Orthotics Advisory Committee. The British Columbia Radiological Society (BCRS) is a non-profit organization that represents the radiologists who practice in the province of BC in pursuit of delivering the highest quality of patient care through the provision of world class diagnostic imaging services. The Chinook Therapeutics Entrance Award is an Entrance award for the School of Health Sciences, specific to the various programs. Recipients: Mariah Alyssa de Leon, Medical Laboratory Science Stephanie Yu, Biomedical Engineering Technology Dr. John Blatherwick Entrance Award An endowment established in 2007 with funds raised by friends and colleagues of Dr. John Blatherwick in honour of his retirement in 2007 as Chief Medical Officer for the Vancouver Coastal Health Authority. Dr. Blatherwick has been an inspirational and important leader in the development of public health in BC and a long-standing supporter of the Public Health Inspectors and the Environmental Health program at BCIT. Recipient: Opal Klaimanee, Environmental Public Health Simons Foundation Entrance Awards for Women An endowment established in 1990 by the Simons Foundation, this endowment provides entrance awards for female students entering specific BCIT programs. The foundation is actively engaged in promoting positive change through education in peace, disarmament, international law, and human security, and also supports the local arts and cultural community in Vancouver. Recipient: Carissa Unger, Occupational Health and Safety Y.P. Heung Foundation Entrance Awards An annual award established in 2014. Y.P. Heung immigrated to Canada in the 1960s. He was a real estate and construction entrepreneur who firmly believed in higher education in his adopted country. Recipients: Nicole-Renee Rausch, Nursing Matildah Sibalwa, Nursing

PRESIDENT’S ENTRANCE AWARDS BCIT President’s Entrance Awards are available to students who have graduated from a BC secondary school during the period of September 2020 to June 2021. The selection of candidates is based on an evaluation of academic achievement, participation and contribution to school activities, leadership, and citizenship, as well as volunteer and/ or community service. The Faculty and Staff Association defends and advances the employment interests of its members through representation, collective bargaining, and advocacy with BCIT, the government, and the community. Recipient: Hanish Trivedi, Aviation Management and Operations Nautical Professional Education Society of Canada Award An endowment established in 1999 by members of the BC branch of the Nautical Institute. The NPESC is a registered society in Canada with the goal of furthering the professional education of Canadian mariners. The society, through endowments with the Vancouver Foundation and the BCIT Foundation, provides bursaries to eligible students in training at the Marine Campus of BCIT and other Nautical Training institutions across Canada. Recipient: Blaze Pihl, Nautical Sciences Pat Plouffe Memorial Award in Airport Operations An endowment established in 2004 by family, friends, and colleagues in memory of Pat Plouffe, a former employee of Eagle Airfield Ltd. in Ontario and a heavy equipment contractor who did considerable work for the Vancouver International Airport. Recipient: Molly Copeland, Aviation Management and Operations The Sunbelt Rentals Achievement Award An annual award Established in 2021. The award was established by the Sunbelt Rentals of Canada Inc for students in the Heavy Duty Truck Technology program. Recipient: Liam Yorke, Heavy Duty Truck Technology

They have a proven track record for applying the latest lean manufacturing principles and engineering design solutions to provide the highest quality, reliable delivery, and target cost for their customers. Recipient: Laura Coons, Airline and Flight Operations— Commercial Pilot—Fixed Wing The Blackcomb Helicopters Entrance Award An annual award established in 2011. Blackcomb Aviation is the Pacific Northwest’s leading independent helicopter and jet charter company, providing specialized aviation services to industries, business travelers, and private citizens since 1989. A reputation for safety and service is their principal asset and governs every decision made, from the people hired to aircraft purchased and services provided. Recipient: Renee Fairgrieve, Aircraft Maintenance Engineering Category M Canadian Airlines Employees’ Entrance Award An endowment established in 2009 for students entering an eligible, fulltime Aerospace program, who are either a former Canadian Airlines (or Regional Airlines) employee or their descendants. Recipient: Kendra Hine, Airline and Flight Operations— Commercial Pilot—Fixed Wing The Canadian Museum of Flight Association, Stan Vivian Memorial Entrance Award An endowment established in 2000 for students entering the Aircraft Maintenance Engineer program. The award was established by the Canadian Museum of Flight Association and his widow, Nancy Vivian, to honour the memory of Stan Vivian, a member of the association and long-time employee of Canadian Pacific Airlines. Mr. Vivian perished in an airplane collision in 1999. Recipient: Abey Teshome, Aircraft Maintenance Engineer—Category M Canfor Trades and Technology Entrance Awards Annual awards established in 2012 for students entering Sustainable Resource Management, Electrical, Millwright, or Heavy Mechanical Trades Foundation programs. Canfor Corp. is an integrated forest products company based in Vancouver. Most of their operations are in BC and Alberta with other operations in Quebec and the southern United States. Recipient: Mason Jantzen, Heavy Mechanical Trades Foundation CIBC Aerospace Entrance Award An endowment established in 2004. The Canadian Bank of Commerce (established 1867) and the Imperial Bank of Canada (established 1875) merged to form the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce (CIBC). CIBC is a leading North American financial institution with nearly 11 million personal banking and business clients, with branches and offices across Canada, in the United States, and around the world. Headquartered in London, HSBC is one of the largest banking and financial services organizations in the world. The entrance award is for students entering any eligible, full-time BCIT Aerospace program. Recipients: Alexee Gustafson, Power and Process Engineering Sa’ar Paz, Airline and Flight Operations— Commercial Pilot—Fixed Wing Port of Vancouver Entrance Award in Memory of Richard C. Pearce An annual award established in 2003. Port of Vancouver is Canada’s largest and busiest port, a dynamic gateway for domestic and international trade and tourism, and a major economic force that strengthens the Canadian economy. They are also a port with a history of commitment to the environment, to their operating communities, and to innovation. Recipient: Cole Junghans, Nautical Sciences Pratt & Whitney Canada Entrance Award An endowment established in 2009. Pratt & Whitney Canada is a world leader in the design, manufacture, and service of aircraft engines powering business, general aviation, regional aircraft, and helicopters. They have pioneered many engine development breakthroughs and continue to write new chapters in aviation. The entrance awards are for students enrolled in the Aircraft Maintenance Engineer Category ‘M’ or ‘E’ (Avionics), or Aircraft Gas Turbine Technician programs. Recipient: Tsung-Ta Teng, Aircraft Maintenance Engineering—Category M The Rick Sawatzky Memorial Entrance Award An endowment established in 2003 by the friends of Rick Sawatzky. The entrance award is for a student in any eligible Trades training program, with preference given to students from School District #35 (Langley). Recipient: Daniel Joshua “DJ” Manuel, Motorcycle Technician Foundation Scotiabank Aerospace Entrance Award An endowment established in 2006. Scotiabank provides a broad range of retail, commercial, corporate, investment, and international banking services. Its core businesses include Domestic Banking (including Wealth Management), International Banking and Scotia Capital. The company has over 10 million customers, including 6.5 million in Canada, and 28,000 employees in Canada. The interest on this endowment is awarded to a student entering any full-time, eligible aerospace program. Recipient: Amreen Dhillon, Airline and Flight Operations— Commercial Pilot—Fixed Wing

The Tracey Horsman Memorial Entrance Award An endowment established in 2016 in loving memory of Tracey, a graduate of BCIT’s Aviation Program (1977). Tracey’s training, his ability and his determination regardless of context enabled him to travel the world; his participation as one of five Vancouver Island Helicopter crew members in the only Canadian helicopter assigned to fly disaster assistance to earthquake survivors in Pakistan (2005) exemplifies at its finest the importance of his work. Likewise, in his private life, Tracey gave generously of his time with no expectation of recognition. On behalf of Tracey, his family emphasizes their appreciation to Vancouver Island Helicopters for their contribution to this endowment.
