ue to the recent health concerns involving the spread of the coronavirus disease, COVID-19, several events in the desert and throughout California have been canceled or postponed.

As cities in the low and high desert and counties throughout the United States continue to declare public health emergencies and step up

safety measures to stop the spread of the virus, more event cancellations can be expected after press deadline.

he 2020 ANA Inspiration will see eight of the world’s top ten players gather at Mission Hills Country Club in Rancho Mirage, marking the strongest field gathered globally since COVID-19 stopped play.

Along with four of the world’s top five, there are 17 players in the world’s top 25 and seven past champions in the field. World No.2 Danielle Kang and World No.3 Nelly Korda head a home challenge of 41 US players competing for the 49th edition of this historic Major tournament.

World No.4 Sung Hyun Park and

World No.5 Sei Young Kim are making their 2020 Major debut, while former Champion Inbee Park is the third top ten ranked Korean in the 106 player line up with the 2019 Champion Jin Young Ko choosing not to travel this year.

This prestigious Major, postponed from its traditional March date, will be going ahead without spectators for the 49th edition.

Fans will be able to watch the ANA Inspiration on Golf Channel and Sky Sports and follow along for enhanced content on social @ANAinspiration and the tournament website ANAinspiration.com.

he Palm Springs Cultural Center is proud to announce the return of Cinema Diverse: The Palm Springs LGBTQ Film Festival in it’s 13th year. For the last several months the “rainbow imagineers” have been working hard behind the scenes to re-envision the festival to bring the latest in quality LGBTQ+ cinema in the healthiest way possible. This year you’ll be able to experience the festival in two unique ways: virtually from the comfort of your recliner at home or at our new PS Cultural Center Drive-In Experience.

Virtual Cinema: Feature Films, Shorts, and Documentaries will be

available online starting September 11 until September 30 through the Virtual Cinema program and can be viewed at your leisure.

Drive-In Experience: Tickets are now on sale for the Cinema Diverse Drive-In Experience events. The experience features six films during six nights, Friday, September 11 through Sunday, September 13, and the following weekend Friday, September 18 through Sunday, September 20. The Drive-In Lot and Concessions opens at 7 p.m. and the films start approximately 5 minutes after sundown. Choose from several ways to enjoy your experience.

he Living Desert Zoo and Gardens has been authorized to reopen to the general public on June 15. In collaboration with Riverside County Public Health Department, the following protocols will be implemented as conditions of entry to visit.

Guests are required to refrain from entering if they are showing any signs of illness, visitors must wear face coverings while on grounds and in the parking lot for all guests 3 years and older; Face shields are acceptable for those who cannot wear other face coverings. Please maintain proper social/physical distancing of at least six feet.

“Situated on over 80 acres, The Living Desert affords visitors ample opportunity to follow social distancing practices when they visit,” said Mark Miller, Director of Park Services and Guest Relations. “We are requiring guests to purchase their tickets in advance so they can utilize our contactfree admission process of showing their ticket on a mobile device. We will also be limiting the number of guests who can enter the Park each hour to reduce congestion.”

Amboy Amboy Crater This 4.1-mile round trip hike to an ancient volcano crater through lava field is a moderate hike off of Route 66 near the Mojave National Preserve. If you make it up the steep incline you will see where lava poured out over 24 square miles. Check out the dried lava landscape on Crater Road.

Cathedral City Cathedral Canyon Trail An approximate 1,000 foot elevation gain and a few steep inclines gives the trail a moderate rating with little shade. The 3.8-mile trail is used by mountain bikers and hikers. Park along the paved street near the end of Foothill Road.

Joshua Tree Joshua Tree National Park A sweeping array of nature and fitness treks greets guests across the 1,250 square mile breadth of space, which makes Joshua Tree among the most popular hiking, camping and rock climbing attractions to locals and visitors. La Quinta Bear Creek Canyon Trail After cruising through a flat, sandy wash for the first 30 minutes, the gain hits all at once around the two-mile mark. But the steep trek through the Santa Rosa and San Jacinto Mountain National Monument is well worth it, and is a prime spot for a picnic. Access trail near the intersection of Calle Tecate and Avenida Madero.

Boo Hoff Loop The first half of the 12.1-mile loop leads to views that stretch from the Salton Sea to the San Jacinto Mountains. The 2,574foot gain in elevation challenges experienced hikers, with hardly any shade, poorly marked paths and rocky terrain hikers are advised to exercise extreme caution. Cove to Lake The first part of the 6.4-mile path is relatively flat, cutting through wideopen sandy terrain at the base of the Southern Santa Rosa Mountains before transitioning to more ups and downs. The path veers away from private property and heads towards Lake Cahuilla. Access the trailhead on Calle Tecate.

Morongo Valley Canyon Trail This 8.34-mile round trip hike descends gradually from the higher, cooler Mojave Desert down the canyon to the warmer Colorado Desert climate. This trail is a favorite of many local hikers and horseback riders. Big Morongo Canyon Preserve, 11055 East Drive.

Desert Willow Trail This moderate .75mile dirt trail wanderd through open fields of fall-blooming alkali golden-bush, along the edge of hone mesquite thicket, then drops into a desert wash habitat with desert willow, evergreen yerba santa and wild tarragon. Morongo Valley West Canyon Trail The trail is a .84-mile moderately difficult climb with some steep areas. After reaching the top of the saddle ridge, follow the slope to a panoramic view of Big Morongo Canyon. Big Morongo Canyon Preserve, 11055 East Drive.

Palm Desert Art Smith Trail After one mile of the round-trip 10-mile trek, the sights and sounds of the city of seem to disappear. By mile three, a cluster of palm trees pop up out of nowhere and the trail is surrounded by otherworldly rock formations. Trailhead can be found across from the Santa Rosa San Jacinto National Monument Visitors Center on Highway 74.

Bump and Grind Loop A moderate 3 -mile hike scaling the Northern Santa Rosa Mountains, this is one of the most popular outings for hikers, runners and cyclists. The steep trail climbs 960 feet and intersects other routes along the way. Trailhead is behind the Desert Crossings shopping center.

The Cross This local landmark is beloved by hikers, bikers and their leashed pups who make the 2.2-mile trek through the lower reaches of the Santa Rosa Mountains. The 689-foot climb feaures a giant lit-up cross with stunning vistas of the valley floor. Parking is available in the unpaved lot off Thrush Road.

Hopalong Cassidy This 9.6-mile one-way path is part of the Painter’s Path Trail system and tackles some of the tougher climbs in Palm Desert. The 3,082-foot elevation gain challenges experienced hikers and cyclists. After arriving at the Palm Desert Cross, the trail skirts along the fairways of the Stone Eagle Golf Club.

Randall Henderson Canyon A moderate 2.5-mile trail that traverses the sandy washes and canyons of the lower Santa Rosa Mountains. The trail offers a trio of loop hikes for runners, hikers, mountain bikers and equestrians. Wildlife sightings are common along this trail. Trailhead is located off Highway 74 near the visitor center for the Santa Rosa and San Jacinto Mountains National Monument.

Palm Springs Andreas Canyon A scenic foot trail leads through the canyon, passing groves of stately skirted palms, unusual rock formations and the perennial Andreas Creek. This tranquil setting is excellent for photography, birdwatching or a picnic at one of the tables along the trail. 38520 South Palm Canyon Drive. indian-canyons.com Araby Trail The 3.3-mile round trip hike climbs into the Northern Santa Rosa Mountains, crossing into part of the Santa Rosa and San Jacinto Mountains National Monument.

With little to no shade and sharp incline, it’s

best to hike early in the morning. The views from the 1,380-foot gain in elevation are worth the trek. Access the trailhead off of Rim Road.

Clara Burgess Trail More advanced hikers will revel in the panoramic valley atop Murray Hill at the crest of Clara Burgess Trail.

After descending the 1,400 foot-gain in elevation across 3.5 miles of terrain. Access trail off of Palm Hills Road.

Murray Canyon at Indian Canyons This is an easy to moderate hike south from Andreas Canyon. Foot and equestrian trails take visitors to a beautiful recreation areas featuring many palm trees. Museum Trail Only a 1.7-mile hike, is a hard uphill hiking test with steep incline and rocky ground. With breathtaking views of the city of Palm Springs unfolding just 10 minutes into the hike, the path levels off at a nice resting point with picnic tables. Trail begins at the back corner of the Palm Springs Art Museum parking lot. Do not park in the museum parking lot.
