Toby Keith
Country Comes to Town Tour By Alison Elsner
H
e’s every bit as good as he once was – and fans can see for themselves when Toby Keith performs in concert, presented by Coachella Crossroads. Expect all of his rousing, floor stomping top hits like “I Wanna Talk About Me,” “Love Me If You Can,” “God Love Her,” “Courtesy of the Red, White, & Blue (The Angry American),” “Who’s Your Daddy” and many others. His opening act will be singer Jimmie Allen. This American country singer, songwriter, actor, and record producer is known for his honky-tonk, deep voice and patriotic messaging that inspires fans. He has made numerous trips to the Middle East since 2002 to bring entertainment and encouragement to U.S. military men and women serving on or near the front lines. Keith has released 19 studio albums, two Christmas albums and five compilation albums, reaching worldwide sales of over 40 million albums. He has charted 61 singles on the Billboard Hot Country Songs charts, including 20 number one hits and 21 additional top 10 hits. His longest-lasting number one hits are “Beer for My Horses” (a 2003 duet with Willie Nelson) and “As Good as I Once Was” (2005), at six weeks each. Keith was awarded the National Medal of Arts by President Donald Trump in a closed ceremony alongside Ricky Skaggs on January 13, 2021. Keith has written at least one #1 country single over the past 20 years with the partnership between his own label, Show DogUniversal, and Big Machine Records, which Keith also helped found in 2005. Keith’s music career and his various other business ventures, including interests in several restaurant chains bearing his name, have made him one of the wealthiest celebrities in the United States. The July 15, 2013 edition of Forbes magazine featured Keith on the cover with the caption “Country Music’s $500 Million Man.” So, when Toby Keith belts out “How Do You Like Me Now?!” - his chart topping, breakthrough hit from 1999 - we already know what the audience response will be – they love him! Joshua Tree Music Festival – music is the soul of life By Alison Elsner Joshua Tree Music Festival 2601 Sunfair Road Joshua Tree May 21 & 22 Diggin Dirt May 28 & 29 Con Brio May 30 Las Cafeteras $180-$400 per pod (4 guests per pod) @joshuatreemusicfestival

T
his favorite event celebrates the return of live music with a series of intimate shows under the desert stars. This outdoor, physically distanced concert series will be pod-based with limited capacity to ensure safety. Shows will be in the main music bowl, and each pod will accommodate up to four people, however pods can be seated together. Featured performers will include Diggin Dirt, who seamlessly mix up Afrobeat, James Brown to Funkadelic stylings, super Sly Stone soul and roots Reggae; Con Brio, a spirited band who plays energetic soul, psych-rock and R&B that’s fresh
and freethinking; and Las Cafeteras, a uniquely Angeleno mash-up of punk, hip-hop, beat music, cumbia and rock who are “magnetic” according to the LA Times. This event is the first step on the journey back towards the Festival as fans know and love it, and based on its anticipated success, an expanded fall event will be explored. All of the performers join the festival with the goal of reinforcing the restorative powers and healing properties of music therapy, and the festival experience encourages attendees to live and love like there’s no tomorrow.

Timed reservations must be made online in advance. Visitors will be able to see the start of the reconstruction of the Aluminaire House, considered a masterpiece of modernist design and recently listed by Architectural Record as one of the most important buildings completed worldwide in the past 125 years. Designed by Swiss-born architect Albert Frey and American architect A. Lawrence Kocher in 1931, the now iconic masterpiece has been recently donated
to Palm Springs Art Museum. During the year-long closure of the Museum due to the COVID-19 pandemic, several major exhibits were installed, including Gerald Clarke: Falling Rock through May 16 and Agnes Pelton: Desert Transcendentalist and Agnes Pelton Landscapes through September 6. The Museum’s world-class permanent collection currently totals over 12,000 objects in Architecture and Design, Art of the Western Americas, Modern and Contemporary Art, Photography and Studio Glass. The collection also includes architect Albert Frey’s iconic masterpiece Frey House II, located on the hillside above the museum.

hether stopping in for a quick browse or for an afternoon of gift and thrift shopping, this venue has the bases covered. Seven acres feature over one hundred vendor booths with flea and farmers’ markets selling antique jewelry, vintage clothing, health and wellness items, home/ garden accessories, modern art and fruits and organic vegetables, complemented by entertainment from local musicians and street performers. Taste treats are available from a fleet of food trucks on site. The market is the creation of entrepreneur Alan Schwartz who has a broad background in estate and
garage sales. Holding these sales for years enabled him to hone his sales skills and an eye for design, which led to his ownership of Just Stuff & Vintage Store. Fortunately for Coachella Valley residents and visitors, Schwartz decided to expand to this new outdoor venue to offer an informal yet complete shopping and culinary experience. This vibrant open-air market with plenty of hustle and bustle is a budget-friendly, weekend destination where you might just find that new piece of midcentury modern furniture or some farm-fresh produce for your al fresco dinner.
