Hair artistry with a twist

A
fter seven years of success in Alameda, Aubrey Cambra and Tami Quan decided to expand their hair salon to Folsom to help more people feel amazing about their hair. Twist Salon caters to all hair textures and types, but specializes in curls. “As a stylist, when you go through beauty school, you don’t learn anything about curly hair. I think there was a paragraph in a book and it didn’t even teach you how to cut it,” Cambra said. “They teach you to blow it out, straighten it and then cut it. It makes no sense if someone wears their hair curly or wavy. Not everyone has stick-straight hair. About 87 percent of the population has texture in their hair.” After obtaining her license, Cambra worked at a few salons, but still didn’t feel like people cut curly hair the right way, and she knew there had to be something out there on how. Eight years ago, Cambra met Quan and Quan told her that if she wanted

to work together, she needed to learn to cut curly hair. “She sent me to a Deva class where I learned the Deva Method,” Cambra said. “It was started in 2008 by Lorraine Massey in New York. She started the Deva line which was three products and has built
