rom diamonds to estate jewels, Adrian Blanco Jewelry has what you need, but when it comes to service and personality, why would you go anywhere else? Opened in February of 2017, Adrian Blanco Jewelry brings more to the table than just a sale. On top of many services that are hard to come by, Owner Adrian Blanco brings his genuine self that has impressed clients to become as loyal as they come. “With almost 20 years in the jewelry industry, I decided it was time for me to start my own company,” Blanco said. “My passion has always been building life-long relationships within a community. I think what attracted me most to the industry was the relationships you build. I focus more on the people and connecting with folks, as opposed to the sale.” When asked what he enjoys most about his business, Blanco said the supportive community of Folsom. “I love being a business owner in Folsom because of how supportive this community has been,” he said. “With our recent burglary, I was so overwhelmed by the love and support from everyone.” It’s no secret Blanco has been successful in his short time in business, and he said it’s because of the service he gives to his customers. “I believe in putting the customer’s agenda first above all things. Visconti’s Ristorante

isconti has been a well-known name within the Folsom community for almost 25 years. When Frank Visconti was passing through town in 1991, he found himself staying here. In 1992, Visconti’s Ristorante opened in the small location at 322 East Bidwell Street. Visconti said he started small because he had no idea how well it would do. Little did he know everyone would love it. After 18 years, the Visconti’s decided to relocate on the growing side of Folsom at 2700 East Bidwell #700 where there was a larger space as well as a banquet room, full bar and patio. “I run the back of the house; my brother runs the front of house; my sister waits tables and does book work; my older sister does the book work as well; and my parents do desserts and help out around the restau-

rant,” Visconti said. Visconti said what sets Visconti’s apart from others in the industry is that they are family-owned and operated. Another thing is they make everything fresh daily with no preservatives; there are no microwaves and the only thing in their small freezer is gelato. Among many aspects of his restaurant, Visconti said his favorite thing about his business is his customers. He said he loves meeting new people and this has been a great opportunity to do that. “Folsom is a great city,” Visconti said. “I have great customers and that is what keeps me going.”

or more than 50 years, Snook’s Candies & Chocolate Factory has produced scratch-made chocolate and candies, and after moving to the Folsom Historic District in 1985, has been a community staple for all local families. Originally opened by John and Jeannine Snook in 1963, Snook’s is operated by three generations and more to come. In 1999, Jim, son of John and Jeannine, and wife Renee bought the business from Jim’s parents and things really took off. Jim brought the convection and creative side to candy making, and Renee brought a woman’s touch to packaging. “We made a commitment to open and operate seven days a week, and one of our missions was to bring a vibrancy and uniqueness to Historic Folsom and to the community,” Jim said. “After so many years operating in Folsom, we have been em-

To see all that in action, to get the smells and be in a family atmosphere, that experience doesn’t cost a thing. We really wanted to share that

With years of experience in Internal Medicine both in small and big group settings, I feel often it is difficult in big groups to develop a good long-lasting rapport with patients, which is very important to me. This is the main reason I have decided to start practicing “the old way” where the patients and doctors got to know each other on the professional and on the “human” level. It was more than a professional doctor-patient relationship. It was a friendship bond. There was a sense of trust which lead to confidence in care and adherence to treatment, and as a result, to better care.

An authentic paradise of cuisine BY RACHEL ZIRIN

O

pened in 2008 by Alex and Jarunee Fleming, Thai Paradise offers authentic Thai cuisine and has been a community favorite to many. Jarunee’s passion for cooking prompted the idea of opening a restaurant, and her goal is to make everyone happy with her food. When asked what he enjoys most about owning his business, Alex said the customers. “We have an excellent following of customers, many of whom are repeat and frequent diners,” he said. “What has made the business successful is our excellent location in the Broadstone Marketplace, superb food and the best marketing and advertising.”

Alex said in recent years, they expanded their restaurant by adding an authentic-looking dining room like one in Bangkok, to accommodate their busy lunch and dinner time rushes. “In the next five years, we plan to constantly increase our customer base, and make our diners happy while serving the best possible delicious, healthy and authentic Thai food in the area,” Alex said.

xperience excitement and mystery at Escape Folsom in the Folsom Historic District. The second you walk into Escape Folsom, you are instantly overwhelmed with a sense of nostalgia and excitement. This one-of-a-kind business is more than just a room full of puzzles. At Escape Folsom, guests can experience specifically designed rooms that mirrors pieces of Folsom history, as well as get a bite to eat and drink. Opened in February of 2018, Owners Jim Carey, Jim Corbett and Garrett Call wanted to bring a unique spin on the basic escape room with incorporating Folsom history, as well as something everyone can enjoy. “We like the feeling that we get by being located in the Downtown Historic District,” Carey said. “We are so proud to have renovated an old historic building from the 1800s like

Yager’s that was empty for almost 10 years.” When asked how their business has become successful, Carey said the unique experience they have created. “We believe that our business has been successful because we created a unique

experience for our customers by offering a fun escape room along with a place to get great food, craft beer and wine,” he said. “We created a space that is welcoming, aesthetically pleasing, that people want to come back to again and again.”

To help grow their recently opened business into what it is today, they incorporated events such as trivia, which is a customer favorite. In the next five years, Carey said they plan to open the remaining three escape rooms and modify the existing two. “We will add new technology into our escape rooms, as it is developed to keep pace with change,” he said. “We will bring local musicians and entertainment in on the weekends as well. We are always continuously improving our total customer experience – with our game rooms, food, beer and wine.”

fter owning the Brewmeister in Folsom for a number of years, Erik Schmid always had a dream of having his own brewery. When he learned Folsom hadn’t had a production brewery in a few decades, he knew it was time to change that. Schmid and his wife, Lisa, opened Red Bus Brewing Company in February of 2018 and have been growing with success since. “The thing I love most about operating my business is the congregation of local folks that hang out in the tap room,” Schmid said. At Red Bus Brewing Company, there is always something new and unique on tap. From a variety of different style IPAs to porters and

From catering to café BY RACHEL ZIRIN The long-loved community hotspot, Karen’s Bakery and Café, has been the hub for not only Folsom’s cycling community, but the active community and residents since 1999. Initially, Owner Karen Holmes started her bakery after her home catering business got out of hand, but now, nearly 20 years later, Holmes’ business has grown and become Folsom’s community bakery and café, in addition to catering. “I was going to make it a catering business, but we had some customers come in so we put out muffins and scones. A little later we got a coffee machine. It started getting busier, and I remember someone coming in and asking if we had lunch, so I said that we could make some lunch. Then an employee of mine asked about breakfast, so we started doing breakfast.

That was kind of how it all exploded.” When asked what she enjoys most about owning her business in Folsom, Holmes said being a part of a vibrant community. “We’ve been successful because we pay attention to detail, are willing to listen to our customers, and we stress the importance of our customers with our staff,” she said. “Every single one of my employees puts in good energy and effort into what we do here. While it says Karen’s on the door, it’s a lot more of a collective team and who we all are. We all do it together.”
