CELEBRATING THE RESIDENTIAL PARK COMMUNITIES FOR 64 YEARS

The Ten Tenors aka ‘vocal thunder from down under’ By Alison Elsner

T

he Ten Tenors, one of Australia’s most famous musical exports, comprise a group of performers whose voices generate “pure electricity and undeniable drama,” according to the Los Angeles Times. As part of their U.S. Tour with a stop in Palm Desert, they will be performing a repertoire from their latest album “Wish You Were Here” as well as material from their hit album “Our Christmas Wish.” An audience favorite, the group continually delights with their vocal prowess, dazzling choreography and Australian humor. Set to present new

songs, classics and holiday music, The Ten Tenors broke the Top Five on Billboard’s Classical Albums chart earlier this year. Their album, “Wish You Were Here,” consists of material associated with iconic performers who have passed on, including Prince, David Bowie, Michael Hutchence of INXS, John Lennon, Amy Winehouse, Queen’s Freddie Mercury, Roy Orbison and others. Selections from “Our Christmas Wish” include traditional standards such as “Joy to the World” and “O Holy Night,” as well as John Lennon and Yoko Ono’s “Happy Xmas (War Is Over),” “Feliz Navidad” by José Feliciano, “White Christmas”

by Irving Berlin and Mariah Carey’s relatively recent contribution to the canon of holiday standards, “All I Want for Christmas Is You.” Now enjoying their 21st year together, The Ten Tenors playfully blend rock, pop and opera and are “truly incandescent when performing at the full strength of 10” according to Variety. The Ten Tenors have appeared on “The Today Show,” “Oprah’s Australian Adventure,” and “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition,” among other shows. More than 90 million people worldwide have attended their live performances, and they have shared the stage with Lionel Richie, Rod Stewart, Andrea Bocelli, Willie

Nelson, Alanis Morissette and Christina Aguilera. More than just a stage presence, the group is a force in the world of charity, too. They are donating net proceeds for every copy of “Our Christmas Wish” sold in the U.S. to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in support of childhood cancer and diseases. Prepare to be thoroughly entertained, mate. The Ten Tenors will perform on November 23 and 24 at 8 p.m., November 24 and 25 at 2 p.m. McCallum Theatre is located at 73000 Fred Waring Drive in Palm Desert.
