Granite Bay dentist Baban Mahal has practiced cosmetic and restorative dentistry since 2004 and has had her local practice since 2016.

Mahal said she always knew she wanted to be in the medical field.

“When I realized that many people do not consider their oral health to be a part of their overall health, that is when I knew I was meant to be a dentist,” Mahal said. “I want to educate my patients on the importance of their oral health and how it greatly impacts their general health.”

“Seeing people smile makes me happy,” Mahal added. “Knowing that I can make people smile again when they whiten their teeth, straighten their teeth, have cosmetic surgery or implant surgery makes it all worthwhile.”

Persistence is her advice to other women in business.

A small town is like a big family is the town motto for Loomis and the town is also home to family businesses such as Hebard Insurance and Tax Solutions.

Chris Hebard-Summers is the third generation of the Hebard family to operate Hebard Insurance and Tax Solutions.

“Our business opened in 1950 by my grandfather, Roy Hebard Sr. I joined the business full-time in 1986,” Hebard-Summers said. “I chose to join my family in the business so I could stay in the community where five generations of

my family have lived and worked.”

Hebard-Summers said she can’t remember the exact day she decided to take up the family business but “I do know that one day I just couldn’t imagine doing anything else.”

“It’s in my blood, third generation to operate the business,” Hebard-Summers said. “My daughter, Ashley Summers, just left a 10-year stint as a me-

chanical engineer in the corporate world to come back to the family business. The sense of history and helping people really calls to us.”

Hebard-Summers said a piece of advice given to her by her grandfather might have contributed to her success.

“I work hard to contribute back to my community. It’s tough to balance,” Hebard-Summers said.

“But my grandpa told me that if we take care of our community, it will take care of us.”

And Hebard-Summers has her own advice for other women in business: perseverance.

“Don’t quit and don’t expect overnight success,” Hebard-Summers said.

“It will come by doing the right thing, even when it’s the hard thing to do.”
