At the end of October, I am going to Peru for three weeks to finish something I started 40 years ago. here, right now, and those precious moments are the ones that will be the memories of tomorrow.

When I went on my 32 -day, 5,800-mile road trip two years ago, the amount of people who supported me in taking off and living MY dream was amazing.

The underlying message I continually received was “You are smart to do it while you can.” We all get so caught up in our lives we forget about our bucket list and what is on it. Then, for some of us, when the time comes to do those things, we can’t.

Aluminum wiring in the home Dear Barry: Last week, I installed a new circuit breaker in my electric service panel.

While doing this, I noticed that the 220-volt circuits are wired with aluminum.

Unless I'm mistaken, aluminum wiring is a serious fire hazard. What concerns me most is that this was not disclosed when I bought the house, not even by my home inspector. I've written some hot letters to the sellers, their agent, and the inspector, but would like your opinion before mailing them.

Do you think I should make them pay to rewire these circuits?

In September of 1978, I went to Peru for three weeks. On the first night of the hike to Machu Picchu, I was rained on as well as another person in our group and we had to go back to Aquas Calientes, the town at the bottom of Machu Picchu to wait for the rest of our group to f i n ish t he h i ke. T hat meant four glorious days exploring Machu Picchu w it hout a l l of today's restrictions. So, 40 years later I will give back to Machu Picchu and then take the journey that was started 40 years ago.

The Inca Trail hike takes you to a max of 13,600 feet so in order to make sure the elevation could be handled, I climbed the third highest mountain peak in California, White Mountain (peak at 14,252 feet in elevation). It was almost a nine-hour day. As said previously, it wasn’t on the bucket list but once accomplished, it was added and checked off. And it felt really good to do!

S o, y o u a r e b e i n g encouraged to take that bucket list of yours and put it somewhere where you can see it and then start working on checking off your list if you haven’t already. One day you will be glad you did and most likely it will be the day you check off an item, turning it into a memory that is to be cherished always. And remember, the beauty of a bucket list is it is fluid. It c a n be ch a nge d a nd updated as you see fit.
