CELEBRATING THE RESIDENTIAL PARK COMMUNITIES FOR 63 YEARS
Nick Offerman & Megan Mullally to kick off second season of Palm Springs Speaks By Gary Willhide
T
he spoken word and a spirited delivery will be front and center at this special event featuring actors, writers and comedians Megan Mullally and husband Nick Offerman. Set to kick off the Palm Springs Speaks 2018-19 season, the couple will delve into their new newly published hardcover book, “The Greatest Love Story Ever Told: An Oral History,” as they discuss the who, what, where, why and how of their relationship in full for the first time. Audiences can expect revelatory anecdotes, hijinks, photos and
fun. Just like in the book, they will take things to a personal level, diving into their quirks, passions and ins and outs of marriage. Mullally and Offerman have been a couple for nearly 20 years and married for 15, which they like to point out, in the world of Hollywood, is closer to 102 years. As actors and humorists in today’s frenzied media cycle, where celebrity hookups and breakups often make headlines alongside changes in world policy, they are self-acknowledged outliers. Hilarious and insightful essays in the book focus on topics like “My Life as a Stripper” and “Booty Tips” by Mullally as well as
“Sex Ninja” and “Domestic Competence” by Offerman. Together, they have appeared in the television shows “Will & Grace,” “Parks & Recreation” and “Children’s Hospital,” the movies “Somebody Up There Likes Me,” “Kings of Summer,” “Infinity Baby” and “Smashed” and the comedy tour “Summer of 69: No Apostrophe.” Palm Springs Speaks was launched in 2017-18, drawing serious notice from the rest of the Valley as well as acclaim for its top-quality presenters and stage programs. Organizers are excited to share this program with the west end of the desert for its sec-
ond season, noting that it will afford a fresh take on a multifaceted event that will bring an infusion of Palm Springs’ personality and pizzazz. The program is presented and sponsored by The Friends of the Palm Springs Library and the Palm Springs Cultural Center. The enthusiasm generated during season one will be ratcheted up during season two, with stimulating future presenters soon to be announced. Palm Springs Speaks kicks off Friday, October 5 at 7 p.m. at The Richards Center for the Arts located at 2491 E. Baristo Road in Palm Springs. Visit palmspringsspeaks.com.
AC3’s culinary twist takes off By Charlie Price
F
all marks the return of cooler weather and, as is the case with AC3 Restaurant + Bar, a chance to celebrate some of the new things that have emerged in the Valley this year. The sleek, modern décor of this Palm Desert venue, which opened in February, boasts new American food with a twist” by collaborators Juliana and Andrew Copley (of Copley’s
on Palm Canyon) and Tony Marchese (of Trio Restaurant). The union of the three dynamos is a winning concept. Craft cocktails compete with beers originating from California here, and the wine list has been specially curated. As for the meals, there’s a bounty of passionately designed options enhanced by the use of local ingredients from The Gardens of El Paseo nearby. Bar bites—and all-day specialty—are extensive
(braised short ribs sliders and the seafood ceviche charmed us). Lunches offer an array of starters and salads, and a choice of robust burgers and sandwiches and larger plates (consider the fried chicken waffle bites, the AC3 burger or delicious salmon noodle bowl). Dinner choices are a fiery feast for the eyes and palate—roasted jidori chicken breast, pappardelle carbonara and grilled shrimp anf pork belly immediately are
winners. All of this in a designforward setting certainly brighten up the Palm Desert dining scene. Relish it all. AC3 Restaurant + Bar is located at 45350 Larkspur Lane in Palm Desert. Open daily for breakfast, 7 to 11 a.m. Lunch, 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Dinner, 5 to 10 p.m. and bar bites, 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Happy hour, 3 to 6:30 p.m. For more information, visit ac3palmdesert.com
