he Lincoln Potters baseball team has released details about their 2018 promotional schedule. Highlighting this season’s promotions are five fireworks nights (June 2, June 16, July 4, July 14, and July 28) including Zebra Night on June 2, Star Wars Night on June 16 (presented by Sierra Pacific), Independence Day Celebration on July 4 (presented by Coors Light), Feather Falls Brewing Company Fireworks on July 14, and Disney Night on July 28 (presented by Eyeglass World). The Potters have upped their game this season with eight premium giveaway nights, including a Fighting Zebra Bobblehead on June 2 (presented by Rich Silvas of Realty One), Wizard Scarf for Harry

Additional 2018 promotions include Breast Cancer Awareness Night (Albie Aware) on June 20, Halloween Night with a special appearance by the Zooperstars on Friday the 13th of July (presented by Emerald Site Services), Hispanic Heritage Night with themed player jerseys and hats on July 14 (presented by LA Tricolor 99.9 FM, and Faith Night on July 27 (presented by William Jessup University.

schedule The 2018 Potters season also features five recurring promotions, including Senior Sundays presented by Summerset Senior Living with buy-one-get-one free admission for all fans 55 and over (excludes July 29), additionally all active and former military receive free general admission on Sundays; Loomis Basin Brewing Co. $2 Tuesdays with $2 12-ounce beers, soda, water, and tacos; Weiner Wednesday with dollar hot dogs (excludes July 4); and Dillian’s Thirsty Thursdays with select $2 12-ounce beers, soda, and water. The Potters have also added two Ladies Nights where ladies 21 and over will receive free general admission on Wednesday,
June 6 (‘80s themed night) and Wednesday, July 25 (country themed night). Gates will open one hour before the start of each game with Monday through Saturday games starting at 6:35 p.m. and Sunday games starting at 6:05 p.m. The only exception is the Wednesday, July 4 game, which will start at 6:05 p.m. The Potters are offering $1 off single-game ticket prices for groups of 10 or more. incoln Potters baseball manager Ryan Stevens has selected four assistant coaches to assist in this summer’s run for a Great West League pennant. “We can’t wait get to work for the town of Lincoln and bring the fans winning baseball this summer,” said Stevens. “Potter Up.” Southern California native Noah Brewster joins the team as hitting coach. A two-year MVP out of high school, Brewster’s playing career ended with an unfortunate injury. However, he later became owner/lead instructor of ProForm Baseball Training in Roseville. He has worked with collegiate and professional players, as well as developing athletes of all ages. Besides hitting, Brewster will coach first base and work with Potters’ catchers. “(Noah’s) baseball IQ is second-to-none,”

Stevens said, “and he has always been a student of the game, while finding ways to make players reach their peak potential.” An infield and hitting coach at Folsom Lake College, third-base coach Jon Peters brings his skills to the Potters this summer. An all-everything in high school, Peters played ball at Mount San Antonio Community College. He then moved on to

As a player Kody was successful on the mound; however, as a coach we would both agree he was even more dynamic,” manager Stevens said. “He is very hungry to start coaching again.” Rounding out the staff is returning assistant coach Mick Lancaster. He will work with Brewster in developing a workout plan for the players. Besides coaching at the collegiate and professional levels, Lancaster also has an eye for talent. The coach spent 10 years as an associate scout for the Miami Marlins. “Mick has been around baseball for many years and brings a positive attitude to the ballpark every night,” said Stevens. “Mick has many unique attributes which makes him very versatile.”

Lincoln Potters’ baseball fans can take pride in knowing their attendance at McBean Park made collegiate baseball’s wood-bat summer league’s top 100. The downside is it ranked 92nd. Only the Yuba City Bears from the Great West League had fewer spectators. The top ranked team was the Madison Mallards out of Wisconsin in the Northwoods League. They drew on average 6,308 fans per home game. The Potters, by contrast, drew 660 fans per home game.

PHANTOM RETURNS AS VOICE OF POTTERS Mark Lowe on the mic STAFF REPORT
T
he Lincoln Potters baseball organization has hired longtime Sacramento-area sports radio host Mark “Phantom” Lowe. Lowe will broadcast all 30, 2018 home games at historic McBean Stadium on KAHI AM 950/104.5 FM. Lowe is a veteran of more than 20 years on the radio and he and his family have lived in Lincoln since 2003. “Having Mark on board to call our home games this summer just makes sense on so many different levels. Between his sports radio background in the Sacramento area and his love for Lincoln, it really is a perfect fit,” said Potters General Manager Matt Lundgren. “We couldn’t be happier to have
the Phantom’s voice back on the airwaves as a representative of the Potters.” Lowe started his career at KRXQ 93 Rock in Sacramento. He and fellow “Rise Guys” Mark Kreidler and Whitey Gleason moved to Sports 1140 KHTK, where they spent the next 12 years. After KHTK, Lowe did several sports podcasts and guest appearances on sports radio shows. “We are excited about adding Mark to our Potters’ radio broadcast team. He is well known in the Sacramento-area radio market and we know listeners will enjoy his play-by-play,” said KAHI General Manager Jerry Henry. Lowe and his wife, Jennifer, have two sons, Kyle (24) and Zachary (19); both grew up playing Lincoln Little League Baseball. Zachary continued his baseball
career at Lincoln High School, where he and his Zebras’ teammates captured backto-back section championships. “Obviously, Lincoln baseball is a theme in our family and I am thrilled to continue that tradition with the 2018 Lincoln Potters. aseball and beer. The best combination Lincoln could offer. Having an extensive selection of brews to enjoy while at Historic McBean stadium makes for a great evening for Potters baseball. Fans can expect seven brands of beer to choose from each night, while always offering the best seasonal beers. These brews can be purchased at two different locations in the ballpark. Potters’ games will have brews cold and readily available, so you don’t have to wait to purchase your favorite beer. There are plans to also have beer hawkers, so you won’t need to leave your seat for a cold one. Goathouse Brewing Company is a Lincoln native coming back in the ballpark. They
were a hit in the 2017 season, and are sure to be a homerun this summer. Michael Johnson, and his wife, Catherine Johnson own and operate Goathouse Brewing Company. Their brew is infused with freshly grown hops, and fruit picked at the peak of freshness implementing farm-to-glass vision. For those looking for a domestic ale, the Potters are partnering with friends at Coors Light. In addition to the Silver Bullet, Sol Beer and St. Archer out of San Diego, will be added to the mix. For the fans looking for a local craft, the Potters will be partnering with Feather Falls Brewing Company out of Oroville. Their Brewmaster Roland Allen is one of the most knowledgeable in the business. Not Your Father’s, the original flavored
craft brewer from Wauconda, Illinois, will delight you with their famous alcoholic root beer, vanilla cream ale, Mountain Ale, and Not Your Father’s Ice Tea. Don’t forget Crooked Lane Brewery out of nearby Auburn. Started with a communitycentered ideology. Crooked Lane offers a variety of English ales, German lagers, and West Coast style IPAs. They believe in “local” and that is proven with their outsourcing of products from Penryn, and Newcastle. Crooked Lane supports local business, making their beers represent the region even more. LINCOLN POTTERS HIRE NEW MANAGER Steven gets the nod STAFF REPORT
RYAN STEVENS HAS BEEN HIRED AS MANAGER OF THE LINCOLN POTTERS FOR THE 2018 SEASON.
The revived Lincoln Potters baseball team recently finished their first season in over 50 years and have hired Sacramento-area native Ryan Stevens to spearhead the club for the 2018 season. Stevens, a graduate of Del Campo High School in Fair Oaks, comes from a strong baseball family and has experience as both a coach and player in Placer County. “As a manager, I bring experience and passion to the sport of baseball and I can guarantee the ‘boys of summer’ will bring energy and excitement to this upcoming summer,” said Stevens. After an accolade-filled high school career, Stevens signed with California State University Sacramento before transferring to Sierra College in Rocklin.

At Sierra College he was named first-team All-Big 8 during both of his seasons as a Wolverine. In 2008, he earned first-team All-State honors and led Sierra College to their first-ever state championship. Stevens continued his college baseball career at CSU Sonoma and was named first-team All-CCAA Conference in 2010. Following his playing career, Stevens went on to coach at Sierra College for six years (2011-2016), serving as the hitting coach in a high-powered offense. The Wolverines reached the postseason in each of his six seasons on staff. In addition to coaching at Sierra College, Stevens served as the head coach and general manager of the Sacramento Scorch Summer Collegiate Baseball Club from 2011-2015.

In 2016, Stevens accepted a position with Louisville Slugger as their player insight specialist, where he brings in players of all ages to a state-of-the-art, indoor hitting facility located in Roseville. There players’ bat performances are evaluated for future Wilson/Louisville Slugger products. Stevens currently resides in Rocklin with his wife, Brittany, and son, Hudson. “I’m excited for the chance to manage an up-and-coming organization like the Lincoln Potters.” said Stevens. “The opportunity to shape young men into the best possible ballplayer/human being they can be has always been my goal in coaching.” Stevens replaces Eric Bloom, who led the Potters to a 35-25 record and a playoff appearance during his lone season as manager.

“My husband and I can’t wait to host again. Not only are we supporting an amazing thing for our town, but we are receiving such a unique experience. Our time last year was far beyond our expectations and created lasting relationships with our player, his family, and the entire Potters’ organization. We look forward to doing that again and again. If you have the capacity to host I encourage you to try it out, we are like a family and if you need anything we are all here for eachother in this adventure. #PotterUp!” — Sarah Prince, host mom What is the importance of a host family? Most importantly, it’s way easier than it seems. The majority of players will arrive in late May and leave once the season has finished in mid-August. The Potters’ season consist of 60 total games, with 30 at McBean and the others on the road. Potters players will typically be busy with either practices, workouts, or games. All you need is a bed with some privacy, a bathroom to use and some extra space in the cupboard and your player will be set. Also, don’t be afraid to ask them for some help around the house. Most players will have their own means of transportation, while some may get rides from teammates. “I enjoyed playing baseball with him when he didn’t have practice or games, and now I love going to Jessup and playing basketball with him,” said Diego Castro a host brother to returning Lincoln Potter, Will Law. If you have kids, they’ll enjoy having a college baseball player in the house. In no time you’ll find yourself rooting at McBean for your player after every pitch. Of course, attending Potters games isn’t mandatory but after building a relationship with your player you may find it to become a significant part of your summer. Aside from becoming an important part of the Potter’s baseball community, each member in the household will receive a season ticket to all Potters home games, and will also be recognized for all their contributions with two barbecues throughout the season.
