CELEBRATING THE RESIDENTIAL PARK COMMUNITIES FOR 63 YEARS
‘Sordid Lives’ returns to Palm Canyon Theatre Saturday and Sunday 28, 29 By Alison Elsner
Audiences will be pleased to know that one of their favorites returns to the stage. Del Shores’ “Sordid Lives” is a cult classic which tells the story of unconditional love, acceptance and “coming out” in a Texas family, as they converge for the matriarch’s funeral.
The original stage play premiered in Los Angeles in 1996 and ultimately won 14 DramaLogue Awards. This is the seventh time the show has hit the Palm Canyon Theatre stage. This year, many favorite performers reprise their roles in which the eccentric characters’ lives intertwine in comical but meaningful ways. Storylines include a
mother in denial over her gay son; a barfly/singer at the local watering hole; a cheating heart whose wooden legs accidentally aid in the death of his mistress (the family matriarch); and the cheating heart’s wife who tries her hand at revenge therapy. The ensemble cast includes Se Layne as Dr. Eve, Yo Younger as Latrelle and Mike Hadley as
Brother Boy. Layne doubles as PCT’s artistic director. A quality experience all the way around. “Sordid Lives” takes the stage April 28 and 29 with shows at 2 and 8 p.m. Palm Canyon Theatre is located at 538 North Palm Canyon Drive in Palm Springs.
