Gala! Country Music! Jazz! Piano Battle!
Del E. Webb Center celebrates 16th Season The Del E. Webb Center for the Performing Arts in Wickenburg schedules a wide variety of performances in the intimate, 600-seat venue every year from November through April. During the second half of its 16th Presenting Season, the Webb Center features diverse genres, including: country, Broadway, comedy, classical, jazz and Big Band music. “We had a wildly successful 2015-16 season, and are thrilled to be presenting a combination of brand-new and returning artists this season,” stated Cathy Weiss, executive director of the Webb Center. “The Webb Center strives to offer exciting performances from multiple genres. For example, this season we are presenting Piano Battle where audience members are invited to vote on the classical pianists’ performances and ultimately determine a winner.” Webb Center audiences will be delighted by the sophisticated sounds of the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra; legendary jazz pianist Ramsey Lewis and his quintet; and a new Phoenix Symphony’s pops program.
Country music fans will enjoy hits by country royalty Rosanne Cash with John Leventhal and The Quebe Sisters’ vintage style of Texas swing and three-part harmony. Kicking off Wickenburg’s Gold Rush Days celebration in February is John Anderson, who boasts five #1 singles on the country charts. Comedy this season comes in the form of comedian Tom Papa, who got his big break opening for Jerry Seinfeld. February welcomes the Webb Center’s fourth annual Find Your Center Gala featuring legendary Broadway vocalist Betty Buckley on February 18. This premiere event promises more than 100 silent auction items, an open bar, delicious hors d’oeuvres, and a spectacular concert with proceeds from the event benefiting the organization’s many programs. Tickets are on sale now. Call the Webb Center’s box office at (928) 684-6624 to purchase tickets or visit www. dewpac.org for schedule, information on artists, and video previews.

Art Show & Sale
“Come Do Life with Us
Desert Caballeros Western Museum’s annual Cowgirl Up! Art from the Other Half of Westâ€? Invitational Exhibition & Sale runs March 24 through May 7. Now in its 12th year, this has become one of the most important art shows for women artists, whose artwork captures the spirit and lifestyle of the American West. By generating over a half-million dollars in sales for its artists and doubling its town’s population with attendance, &RZJLUO 8S invitational exhibition and sale has put Wickenburg on the map as a hot art destination throughout the West. With 58 artists in this year’s show, you would have to travel to major art shows throughout the West to see the breadth and depth of what this event showcases—at one time—in one place. It’s this broader scope of works than are usually found at a Western art show that make this event so unique. “We have artists stretching beyond traditional Western art to embrace the West’s unique lifestyle and spirit,â€? Museum Executive Director Sandra Harris said. &RZJLUO 8S Patron Package all-inclusive opening weekend tickets are $275 per person for all Friday, Saturday and Sunday events; individual event tickets are also available. Tickets for the opening weekend “Bash ‘n Bidâ€? sale and dinner only are $175 per person and include a buyer’s ballot book. Tickets to the Chuck Wagon Breakfast, Artists’ Quick Draw and live auction on Sunday, March 24 are $30 each. For reservations and more information, call the Museum at RU ORJ RQ WR ZHVWHUQPXVHXP RUJ A month-long exhibition and sale follow &RZJLUO 8S ¡s opening weekend, running through May 7. The show is open to the public with general museum admission and unsold artwork will be available for purchase. The Museum hosts special exhibitions throughout the year as well as members-only events, kids’ art workshops, monthly lectures, a book club, desert adventure tours, family day activities and more.

The Wishing Well is also the site of several interpretive signs detailing Wickenburg’s cultural history, as well as the ofďŹ cial version of the Hassayampa Legend. The Town of Wickenburg and local volunteer groups continue to add landscaping and other attractive features to this inviting little park, located on the edge of downtown.

Hassayampa River holds a surprise As drivers cross the Hassayampa bridge from Highway 60 into Wickenburg, the riverbed is dry sand. But our “upsidedownâ€? There, it slowly meanders through grassy banks and groves of cottonwood and willow trees, helping one forget they’re in the middle of the Sonoran Desert. And deeper into the preserve are shaded walking paths and the chance to see nature up close. On the Hassayampa River Walk By Patti Slattery Those who drive by the Hassayampa River Walk during the holiday season – especially at night – are met with dazzling lights, festive decorations and a 29-foot Christmas tree topped with a cowboy hat made of lights. The spot is the destination of the newest Wickenburg tradition – the Christmas tree lighting, which draws residents from Wickenburg and beyond with free cookies, coffee and hot chocolate, plus musical presentations, free photos, and the chance to touch bases with old friends and new. The Town of Wickenburg spared the old bridge several years ago, giving it a second chance. The Hassayampa River Walk is not exactly new in town – more like repurposed, and in this day and age where the old is often demolished to make way for the new, it is refreshing when a piece of history is lovingly valued and preserved. That is exactly what The Town of Wickenburg did when it turned the old, retired highway bridge into The Hassayampa River Walk – a pedestrian hangout where Spring/Summer 2017
people gather by foot or on bikes to cross the Hassayampa River, or just linger and visit. The walk begins at Wishing Well Park, off Kerkes Street across from the downtown roundabout. It is complete with an attractive wrought iron fence that overlooks the river. The surface of the bridge is covered with decorative asphalt with 199 horse hoof prints stamped into it. The walk is lined with benches for relaxing, and decorative lighting. It also features electrical outlets for vendor booths during special events. An added bonus of the walk is that it provides a pedestrian pathway under Hwy. 60. On any given day – especially when rain causes the usually dry river to run – visitors utilize the river walk to take an evening stroll, meet friends or just see the sights. Many gaze over the bridge to FDWFK RQH RI :LFNHQEXUJ¡V PDJQLÀFHQW VXQVHWV RU WR VRDN up the peace and tranquility that the small, desert town provides. Start out at the corner of Yavapai and Frontier streets. Here, you’ll find the beautifully restored 1895 Santa Fe Railroad Depot, alongside a steam engine from 1890 and an intriguing red caboose from yesteryear. Step inside the depot for a look around and pick up a Walking Tour Guide. This helpful little pamphlet includes a map of historic downtown Wickenburg and 31 points of interest, all within easy walking distance of the depot. (Of course you can drive it as well.) Along the way, you’ll find attractions such as the old brick post office where settlers arrived on horseback to pick up mail. The building houses a dry cleaner and laundry service now, but it’s easy to see the original bricks and imagine the hitching rail out front. The old livery stable around the other side of the block was built in 1890 and today houses several businesses along Tegner Street. With the help of the guide, the discerning eye can still make out the angle of the building’s corners, which was transformed from livery stable to car dealership and gas station as times changed. The trail is jagged with high step-ups which lead to a saddle between peaks. Between the saddle and the summit, the trail becomes extremely steep as hikers have to use their strength to hoist themselves up a crevice in the mountain. The hard work pays off at the top with a panoramic view in every direction. To reach the Vulture Peak trail head start at Safeway in Wickenburg and drive south on Vulture Mine Road for about 6.4 miles. Look to the left for the signs which are nestled in a curve in the road. Turn left on the dirt road and continue to the parking lot. Off-road and 4-wheel drive vehicles can continue past the parking lot for about a mile to the upper trail head. The parking lot has a restroom and a map of the trail. The trail does not have trash cans or water along the way. Athletic dogs may be able to make it to the top, but most four-legged friends will end their hike at the saddle. Continue past the rodeo grounds and beyond the end of the pavement. The dirt road winds through a wash and soon comes to a fork with Blue Tank Road to the left. Take Blue Tank Road for 1.4 miles. Look for the parking area on the right hand side of the road. A portion of the trail system has been improved for mountain biking. Consult the map at the trailhead for more information.
