Carter’s Carpet Restoration, a family run business, based in El Dorado Hills, won the Telegraph’s 2017 Best of the Best award for best carpet cleaning. With 24 years of service in the industry behind them, owner Dean Carter said that his company’s commitment to quality and excellent customer service is what helps them excel – something reflected in the award. “I think it’s fantastic,” Carter said. “I think it just shows that we’re doing what we should do. We’re giving the customers the best value, giving them the best carpet cleaning there is and obviously giving them excellent customer service as well.” Customer service is the bottom line for Carter’s Carpet Restoration. This, paired with a unique cleaning technique that allows for faster carpet drying times, is a winning combination in Carter’s book. “That’s where it starts and end,” he said. “We do steam cleaning, but it’s a super deep cleaning and an incredibly fast dry time. Dr. Jim Cope and his son Dr. Ben Cope are carrying on a family tradition of quality dental service and a commitment to superior techniques in El Dorado Hills. Kimberly Cope, RN and office manager at the local dental office, touted the unique offerings and loyal customer base at the establishment. “We have a couple of things [that set us apart,]” she said. “No. 1 is our years of experience. The restaurant and sports bar located in Cameron Park is taking home best place to enjoy lunch, best casual dining, best family restaurant and best sports bar in El Dorado Hills, as well as having the best bartender and best server in El Dorado Hills. BROWNING, ANDERSON VOTED TOP HOME-GROWN ATHLETES BY MATT LONG
Winners of the best home grown athlete of the Telegraph’s 2017 Best of the Best contest went to a current professional athlete and one that is on the path to be one some day. Ryan Anderson helped lead Oak Ridge High School to a state basketball championship in 2005 and after graduating in 2006, Anderson received a scholarship to play basketball at Cal. After two years there, Anderson declared himself eligible for the NBA draft and was drafted by the New Jersey Nets with the 21st pick of the first round in 2008. Anderson has since played three years with the Orlando Magic, four years with the New Orleans Pelicans and just finished his first season with the Houston Rockets. In nine years in the NBA, the 6-10 forward has averaged 13 points and five rebounds per game. Anderson’s counterpart in Folsom was Jake Browning, who is a 2015 graduate of Folsom High School. Browning was a record-breaking quarterback at FHS,
where he led the Bulldogs to a state championship his senior year in 2014, completing 360-of-524 passes for 5,796 yards, 91 touchdowns and seven interceptions. His career numbers in 46 games over three seasons are 1,191 completions in 1,708 attempts for 16,781 yards, 229 TDs and 40 interceptions. As a team, Browning led the Bulldogs to a 44-2 record in those three seasons, losing only twice to national power De La Salle in the Northern California title game. Since then, Browning has continued his success at the University of Washington. As a freshman in 2015, Browning earned the starting job and completed 63 percent of his passes for 2,955 yards and 16 touchdowns against 10 interceptions, while leading Washington to a 7-5 record. This past season as a sophomore, Browning completed 62 percent of his passes for 3,430 yards and 43 touchdowns against only nine interceptions. The Huskies went 12-2 on the season and reached the NCAA title game where they lost 24-7 to Alabama. Browning finished sixth in the Heisman Trophy voting.

Designing Dreams Flooring and Surfaces was voted top flooring company in El Dorado Hills by Telegraph readers in the 2017 Best of the Best contest for another year in a row. DESIGNING DREAMS The local business was founded in 1986 by MiFLOORING & SURFACES chael and Jenee Compagnone in El Dorado Hills, 25065 Blue Ravine Road, but in 2013, the company was purchased by Randy Suite 110 Mintz and Raul Borodi. During the spring and summer, I usually grab some ice cream from Cold Stone Creamery and sit on the bench with my boyfriend. The weather always seems to be perfect in Town center. The El Dorado Hills Community Services District (EDHCSD) was voted best of the best by Telegraph readers in three different categories. Coming in first for best children’s activity center, best local summer camp and best family EL DORADO HILLS activity in El Dorado Hills in the 2017 Best of the COMMUNITY SERVICES Best contest, EDHCSD’s Recreation Supervisor DISTRICT Whitney Kahn, said they are incredibly excited KydZonE eXtreme Summer Day and proud to win. Camp and KydZonE After School Program “The CSD has had an after school program 1021 Harvard Way and summer camp for many years, but the pro916-933-6624 gram was named KydZonE in 2002,” she said. “In the summer of 2005, I decided to completely flip the current program on its head. It had previously been a drop-in, hourly child-care-based program, but being a recreation professional, I wanted to run a summer day camp program that aligned with what was current in the industry.” This is how KydZonE eXtreme Summer Day Camp was born. The program is a week long of field trips and themes, while adding in a sleep-away camp feel, complete with songs and skits, Kahn said. Kahn personally got into the industry when she was 15 years old. She said she was working at her hometown’s after school program as a recreation leader and was bit by the recreation bug. “I felt at home working with youth and knew that I wanted it to become a career,” she said. “Now, as a recreation supervisor overseeing youth development for the CSD, I get to help create a sense of community in El Dorado Hills, while training and supervising young adults to be role models for our campers. I love that I have a job that I love, in an industry I love, in a community that I love.” Kahn said what sets the program apart from others like it is their staff members. “Summer after summer, we have amazing young people that want to come work for us,” she said. “We select the best of the best, and we spend hours and hours training them and getting them ready for the busiest, hardest, hottest, most fun summer of their lives. We are so lucky to have so many of them return year after year and recruit their friends to join our team.” Kahn said she is grateful to the parents who entrust them with their children every day. “It is something we take very seriously,” she said. “We want to represent the CSD well so we do our best to deliver a quality program that we can be proud of every single day.”

Voters who were choosing the best sports team and coach in El Dorado Hills apparently didn’t have to look far to find them. The USA Stars won the best of the best sports team, while one of the coaches and founders of the organization, Rashid Utush, was named best of the best coach. The USA Stars is a soccer academy that has been based in El Dorado Hills for the last six years. The organization has more than 200 players on 14 teams. Although the program is based in El Dorado Hills, players from Roseville, Rocklin, Folsom, Citrus Heights, Placerville and other communities are part of the group. “I’m excited to see that we have a lot of supporters in the community, and I’m proud of our coaching staff for providing a great experience for our kids,” said 37-year-old Utush, who lives in Roseville. “We have a very structured environment and training curriculum. We have multiple coaches at every training so players can get different viewpoints from different coaches. Our

He was surprised and happy to learn he was voted as best coach in the Telegraph’s annual contest. “I’m very honored and humbled by the recognition,” Utush said. “If feels good to be supported by our players and their families. I enjoy sharing the love and passion of soccer to my players. I want my players to understand that with hard work they can accomplish anything, not just in soccer, but in life.
